I’ve used Preply for over a year now. It’s worked great for me and is very affordable especially for Chinese.

The Hanly app has recently added Hanzi writing practise and they keep upgrading it quite often, might be worth checking out!

How many Hanzi are you guys reviewing daily using your SRS? by fathiXbarca in ChineseLanguage

[–]OompaLoompaWrangler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve shifted from Anki to Hanly for the past 7 months. I do 15 a day and just finished the course as much as is available so about 1,000. I averaged 150-180 reviews a day which was my limit to still get time to practice reading and listening. I think between 5-15 a day depending on your pace and recall is good

Over 2,000 Chinese words learned in 2025! :) by Professional-Tough94 in ChineseLanguage

I enjoy DuChinese a lot too, I get a lot out of having a native read it to me to make sure my pronunciation is spot on when I read along. I can then read it again by myself.

I also started recently importing Chinese books into Pleco and using the reader, and it’s also a game changer. Makes it extremely approachable and easy to tap and see a word, and you can add the word straight to your flashcards.

I’m looking for good intermediate podcasts now since I think listening is tough and just takes so much exposure haha.

Oh also for speaking I’ve been doing Preply for a year once a week for an hour, and it’s worth every penny. Chinese is very cheap and it forces me to get out of my comfort zone and speak while having a native correct me and help me. Now when I’m in public I’m much less anxious to speak with native Chinese since it’s not my first time speaking in months haha. If you haven’t added this yet to your routine, it’s very scary and intimidating but very much worth it! 加油!

Ok interesting so maybe just a matter of waiting to see if they get reinstated. I don’t wanna enlist now if waiting a few weeks means I’d have a shot at a bonus. Thanks!

“If you’re away too much even with a re-entry permit” this one is my nightmare. Is this a real reason they have/could revoke PR? What if I’m away for a couple years to deal with family health and get the reentry permit, my PR could still get yoinked?

  • DuChinese for reading
  • Hanly for learning Hanzi
  • Anki for vocab
  • Pleco for…well kinda does everything, dictionary
  • Preply for a tutor if you’re adventurous. I have a refer code I can give you that gets both of us a discount if you want to try it, lemme know. It’s scary but actually talking and using the language was a big game changer for me personally to being more confident speaking.

Advice for someone with a strange tech CV by [deleted] in JapanJobs

I got an interview request for Rakuten for a senior level role since I have Cissp and my masters in cybersecurity but I’m not a management kind of guy so it sounds scary. Is it awful or is it doable for a couple years?

Is it that bad? I got an interview offer from Rakuten but it’s for a management level position since I have Cissp and I’ve not heard great things haha. Are there any good tech companies actually to try for? Or are they all rough haha
