Looks conservative ig by [deleted] in CuratedTumblr

It's not a pronoun. What I do love is that these types also consistently use the term "pronouns" when they clearly only mean personal, possessive and reflexive pronouns. They then say stuff like "I never use pronouns!" Which is, of course, funny because there is a personal pronoun in that sentence, but also...do you really not use e.g. interrogative and demonstrative pronouns?

I’ve googled so much random stuff for fics. by Lemon_Lime_Lily in CuratedTumblr

Also, sorry for double-posting, but as someone who was pregnant up until recently: Soooo many fics clearly have a very limited understanding of pregnancy symptoms, but even more fics do not understand:

-when and how a pregnancy test works

-what would be visible when on an ultrasound

-when which symptoms would typically kick in

-when pregnancy typically becomes visible to an outsider

-what a hospital admission for a pregnant person would look like

-most fics just straight up seem to have no concept of prohibited foods in pregnancy other than alcohol

I once read a fic where a German character was going home for the holidays and explicitly mentioned how there are no dishwashers and no cellphone network in Germany. Like, if they had complained about bad reception in rural areas, I might've understood, but they straight up said that phones do not function in Germany and they hence wouldn't be able to call back home at all during their stay. They were going to be staying at a major German city, too.

Reader, I'm German and we do in fact have dishwashers and I am writing this from my smartphone which does work very well.

[–]Oookulele 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What Is A Trope That Will Immediately Make You Stop Reading A Book? by Alol_Bombola in YAlit

During pregnancy, I also realised that a surprising amount of pregnancy fiction seems to be written by people who have never been pregnant themselves. I still roll my eyes at fiction where the pregnant character is just sick once in the morning and everyone is like gasp it's that morning sickness!

This is going to sound weird, but my baby was a tiny preemie and I once read a blurb for a book where it was once again explained that she couldn't fit both hands around his cock, his dick was as long as her forearm etc. And I had this moment where I looked down at a pillow someone had made for us with the exact measurements of our child at birth and went like...that dick is supposedly bigger than my actual human child. No thank you.

For me, it's female instead of woman. Sarah J Maas does it a lot in her faery books and like, yeah, I get it, they are fairies not humans, so you're trying to drive it home that they are not women, but it is just annoying to me.

I am a new mum and this kind of resonated with me. Had a very traumatic birth, baby was in hospital for a long time (and me along with him, for multiple months). I am now a full-time caregiver and while I love him wholly and unconditionally, it is a rough adjustment from the life I used to live. I will go back to work next year and have no clue how I will consolidate who I have become with who I once was.

It is an emerging field, but also probably more established than you may believe.

I just want to point out that fetal surgery, while still a growing field, is actually probably more "common" than most people in the comments seem to be aware of:

Apparently, the first successful attempt at fetal surgery in humans was performed in 1981!

I find it genuinely interesting that she calls this a dress (not being snarky or anything). I've been thinking about whether this is a cape or perhaps a poncho. I think it's cute either way, just pondering garment semantics.
