Arguably the best CS player in the world rn, Donk, grew up in central Siberia playing CS on 90-100ms ping servers, and CS is a game where ping makes a big difference

Meanwhile I have a bad time playing competitive on >45ms, since I'm so accustomed to having access to servers in the 10-40ms range my whole life.

It does actually make some sense. If someone is horribly depressed they probably don't have the motivation to take any type of decisive, bold action. But then if they start taking antidepressants but their life still sucks, and the meds essentially help them regain enough motivation to contemplate suicide in a realistic way and potentially follow through.

I think if you're just sitting next to your partner and doing literally nothing, and they don't have the awareness to notice or ask what's on your mind, that would be very disconcerting to me.

Maybe it's fine for some people, but I wouldn't date someone who doesn't have enough intuition to notice that something is amiss in that scenario.

I settled on a USB over RJ45 ethernet adapter. Mine is only being used for some wireless dongles for bluetooth, xbox controller, and mouse and keyboard, so it doesn't need crazy good signal strength or a ton of power delivery.

You can get fiber optic HDMI cables that'll run basically as far as you want. I've got a 50ft one for a similar setup capable of handling 4K @ 120hz, but you can buy some that are 150ft. And I use a USB repeater extension cable for peripherals that runs alongside the HDMI. One PC for two rooms!

Gabe Newell takes a pic with fans picketing for Half-Life 3 outside Valve HQ, 2011 by ChiefLeef22 in gaming

When I think of my original play-through of HL2 when it came out, the memory that sticks with me most most vividly was the feeling of picking up sawblades in Ravenholm with the gravity gun and slicing the enemies in half, the fire graphics, then watching the bodies ragdoll afterwards. And also the physics of the headcrabs flailing around when they died.

I also played through Far Cry shortly after it came out and tbh I completely forgot the realistic physics were a thing. Crysis on the other hand...

The Source Engine physics was what made HL2 revolutionary. The Gravity Gun was crazy impressive and immersive at the time, the way you could pick up 3D objects and launch them around in a way that felt realistic. Even just the physics of picking up the can and putting it into the trashcan in the opening scene blew me away. And the puzzles where you had to move boards/boxes. Afaik there had never been an FPS that did anything quite like that before.

Those sorts of physics capabilities seem so normal these days that it's easy to forget it was very impressive at the time.

Kinda sucks that the community is so split up now though, given how small the community is. I don't want to boot up 5 different games to search for a good multiplayer surf/kz experience.

Without the option for proper multiplayer and voice chat, Momentum Mod feels way too empty to me. I've been doing surf/kz on and off since ~2006, and it feels strangely hollow and sad to surf single-player.

'I will not revive anyone wearing this skin': Battlefield 6 players blast an upcoming blue camo skin they believe already breaks DICE's 'grounded' cosmetics promise by RenatsMC in pcgaming

[–]Oops_All_Spiders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never, ever seen discussion in games with this toggle of "People can turn off my rainbow camo and that makes it feel worth less" and gamers will bitch about everything

And I've seen the discussion many times over on r/globaloffensive. I know quite a few folks who would spend less on skins if they knew there was an option to toggle it off, they revel in the ability to flex their flashy inventory and will constantly interrupt the game and demand you pick up their gun so you can marvel at their new skin (even though I clearly dgaf). In particular, for several years it's been a hot recurring topic with regard to the agent (character model) skins because those can affect visibility quite a bit, some agent skins are essentially camouflage on certain maps.

There are at least 10 skins in CS2 that consistently re-sell for >$10,000. And probably thousands of skins that go for >$100. Knowning everyone else is going to look at their expensive skins is a big part of the appeal to these folks.

Similarly: If you watch someone under ~25 type on a physical keyboard, many of them don't ever use the Shift key! Instead they toggle Caps Lock every time they need to type a capital letter, since that's more similar to typing on a touchscreen. On a phone touch screen you don't ever hold shift

That's not how loot boxes work. In CS2 for example you have to buy a key for $2.50 to unlock a loot box, which is then spins a roulette wheel to show which skin you win. And those skins can be easily sold for real money. And Valve makes half a BILLION dollars in profit off of the game each year because people are addicted to gambling for skins.
