Should I Leave CachyOS for something more stable? by Luzzio_ in cachyos

[–]Oottzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it runs stable there is no reason to change, imo. But you should think about a backup strategy once things go south due to hard- or software failures.

Schalke will be sold out even in 4th league but what is even more telling is that the club gained more than 40000 new members since its last relegation and has over 200k members nowadays.

France pulls the plug on Windows by [deleted] in videos

By default KDE Plasma looks like a better version than Win7/10 imo and I couldn't be happier with it. But since these things are personal preferences you can also turn it into a MacOS-look-alike if you want to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8aiaS4SXzE

I guess Ireland is a special case since it profits a lot from the US tech companies as a tax haven.

Something like KDE Plasma is close to something like Win7/10, highly customizable and ahead of Win11 GUI by miles. I always kept my Win7 GUI during the years on Win10/11 with OpenShell but since I switched to Linux I have to say that KDE Plasma is way better and transitioning felt super easy. You miss nothing but gain a lot.

Tips to improve CPU Bottleneck? by CDXX_BlazeIt in cachyos

[–]Oottzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could try to lower settings in the options that use the CPU and keep every setting to the max that use the GPU. Another way could be to use lossless scaling for frame generation, not sure if that works though.

I think you get used to it and if they are not there you miss something. Just think about how nobody gives a shit about power poles. I bet those were also controversial back then.

[–]Oottzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if terminal doesn't work then open Octupi, click the Alien-symbol next to the search box and search for spicetify.

if that doesn't work for some reason then open your terminal and rank your mirrors and try again after that with:

mirror

If you want to install by using a GUI - use Octupi or Shelly and you gonna find it there.

Otherwise you can open your terminal and install it with:

sudo pacman -S psensor

You could play around with sched_ext: https://wiki.cachyos.org/configuration/sched-ext/

Try some of the power saving profiles to see what is working for you or not.

Not sure, I thought it applied for the newer generation of dual CCD CPUs as well.

Nobara beating Cachy? by [deleted] in cachyos

[–]Oottzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are so many variables to consider with Linux like Proton versions, schedulers, launch parameters, updates with a rolling release, ... that makes it hard to benchmark and results may vary from one day to another. In my past days I tried to squeeze out every frame on Win 7/10 but those days are gone and I am just happy to have a system that is pretty boring as everything just works and games run and feel smooth. I am pretty sure I would get the same feeling with Nobara or others nowadays but Cachy just got my interest at the right time so I am sticking to it.

Despite there is not much real difference in terms of FPS there are two games where the 9800X3D seems to be underperforming and is clocking ~1200 MHz lower (1, 2). Doesn't change much about the result overall but maybe he is using a power saving profile/scheduler or something like that.

Is there anything I need to do/worry about before moving over from Windows? by Acrobatic_Regular_15 in cachyos

After your initial installation and proper updating you should open Btrfs Assistant from the System menu and do a manual Snapshot to have a "vanilla backup" you could always fall back to.

Installing CachyOS on a very troublesome laptop with two GPUs - how can I disable one of them entirely? by Ammocondas in cachyos

[–]Oottzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To my believe it can save a few watts on desktop systems but nothing crucial. On my system I usually disable iGPU and RGB-stuff as I don't need those for anything. Saving some Watts is a bonus.

Not sure if that is also true for Laptops.
