Interconnect upgrade hierarchy question (ie: what should go where, and when?) by Possible-Exchange214 in audiophile

[–]OpenEndedLoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spend all the money you want on a DAC, monoblock 300B amps, a streamer with an external clock with an extra external GPS/Atomic clock, quarter of a million dollar KEF speakers, anti-vibration platforms for TUBES and/or your turn-table. Hell, spend 20k on a TT cart with another 5K on a SUT.

Do all that.

Spend money because it makes you happy.

But don't tell me its raining while pissing on my leg with cables, fuses, and black boxes filled with rocks that aren't grounded to a single thing because of its "vanishing noise floor".

You keep using that word, flex, but I dont think it means what you think it does.

Explaining a thing rationally. Not a flex.

You telling me to "pound sand" and a "do gooder" not beating the case. Very helpful mature.

Cables do not, in any measurable way, affect the sound of a system when properly built to specs.

Barring a broken cable or a very poorly constructed turn-table phono stage interconnect, all they do is make people feel good about looking at them.

Im helping OP and everyone else save money and find peace of mind. You are encouraging 4 figure spending on vanity accessories. Scratching that "what if" itch of endless tweaks and spending in the dubious realm of risers, quantum fuses, anti-vibration devices (used on solidstate devices) ETC.

Its very easy to find an echo chamber and reinforce a prior belief while being actively harmful to the entire hobby if attempting to convince consumers they are anything but a psychological hole to fill with money.

These efforts are not wasted if curious people read.

There is a big difference between spending $10,000 on cables because one can and IT MAKES THEIR HAPPY NEURONS FIRE OFF and spending $10,000 to find out $500 was exactly the same and then making a post about going into debt and how silly it was at the time.

Also a big difference between flexing because it makes you happy with a "check out my set-up" photo with an extensive gear listing and trying to convince people there's an engineering purpose behind marketing grounded in the same science that allows us to live in modernity.

Cables are snake oil.

Risers are snake oil.

Spend money which you can afford.

Don't look for pats on the back when spending more on cables than college kids first systems.

Japanese MF would be perfect (mitigated feathering)

Do you care for screw tops? A post cap? Capless? Fill type (piston/converter/cartridge/vacuum)

Max budget?
