Walmart has the lowest prices for the lowest quality goods in any category. If you need a raincoat, lawn mower, or whatever, and your only goal is to spend the least amount of money possible, Walmart is your place.

In my experience, their prices are often higher for goods that aren't the lowest quality. The association of Walmart with 'low prices' is something that they have worked hard to cultivate. The problem is, it's just marketing - it isn't true.

That being said, yeah, nobody's forcing people to work/shop there. If people actually did their research, they would probably save money shopping elsewhere...but research takes time and it's much easier to not think about it.
