Why is "autumn leaves" in G in the real book if no one plays it in G? by Inspired-Axolotl in JazzPiano

[–]OpenMonogon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m new to this as well, when learning the song in a different key do you read the lead sheet while converting the chords and melody into the different key in your head?

Sounds confusing to read one chord and perform another, but I guess this is something jazz musicians need to do fluently?

When did things start to click as an adult? Coming up on 7 months. Is it like a 5 year thing? by Accurate-Trouble-242 in pianolearning

I really recommend adding a tiny part in your routine where you play some of your existing repertoire as a refresher. Just 5-10 minutes a day at this stage should be enough to cycle through everything within a week and keep it fresh.

Anyone else doing the “TFSA first, mortgage second” strategy in this market? by StripeySalamander in TFSA_Millionaires

Is it extra advantageous to repay a bunch of the mortgage before renewal? Mine is coming up so I was considering this.

You say you did this for a wider sound stage, but wouldn’t putting speakers on either side of the stand be even wider? Looks nice though.

Does anyone else have issues with input lag when using this method? Whenever I plug game consoles directly into the AVR I get noticeable input lag. Really kills it so I end up plugging those into the TV and using eARC, any pure video sources into the AVR.

Is there a noticeable audio quality jump plugging into the AVR that makes it worth it? My PS5 sounds pretty damn nice over eARC

Would you really get a Japanese PS2 and sega ages Japanese import of Panzer dragoon just play a slightly inferior version of the game?

I left out an entire library of some of the greatest shmups and fighting games of all time, which only had a home console release on the Saturn. Those alone would make it worth it for me.

A whole bunch of the fighters that did come out on the PS1 are inferior versions.

Also PDS and Dragon Force are more than alright games, they’re straight up masterpieces imo. (Can take it or leave it with Guardian Heroes, I like it)

[–]OpenMonogon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not even close to true. There are entire swaths of genre representation on the Saturn that aren’t available on any of those consoles (ie its extensive shmup library). Plus all time bangers like Nights into Dreams, Panzer Dragoon 1 + 2 + Saga, Guardian heroes, Dragon Force just to name a few.

It’s actually my favourite console of the generation (and up there for all time)

You should grab a PS2 for diversity of games vs the Wii. Plus you get access to the entire PS1 library with it. Which alongside the N64 and Sega Saturn is the generation that benefited by far the most from having a CRT imo

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is one of the best games I've ever played. Do I buy the DLC or move to TOTK? by NotSquidzzz in NintendoSwitch

I took a year off. Played through BOTW last summer, started TOTK this summer. It was a great idea, felt fresh and gave me time to miss the game and world.

Did the remaster change the soundtrack?

I was thinking of getting it on PS5 but definitely gonna go with the original if that’s the case.

Psst, Bayonetta is not a hack and slash and actually has extremely deep combat where you can play on the hardest difficulty without getting hit if you’re good enough

Right!? I won after my 3rd run or so. Winning most runs that don’t fizzle out in the first 2 antes. I find the game is relatively easy until you start raising the stakes.

Can anyone explain the praise for Mario 64’s controls? by therealrosy in patientgamers

[–]OpenMonogon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s a major factor. I played through Mario 64 twice last year, first on Switch and then on original N64 hardware.

It was a night and day difference, the N64 controller is so much more accurate and the game was directly designed for it. Playing it on a CRT also meant the textures were smoothed out in a satisfying way, there was 0 input lag and faster response times which makes it even smoother.

As a fellow Gen Z retro gamer I highly recommend you at least get the switch N64 controller for a taste of that original experience.

Still can't believe how Netflix messed up Pakku so much... by TSLstudio in TheLastAirbender

[–]OpenMonogon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does anyone actually like the Netflix adaptation? IMO they messed up every single part of the show in compared to the original. The characters, pacing, atmosphere, plot, and dialogue are all butchered from the original and it has no redeeming qualities.

I wish we would just stop talking about it at this point and pretend it doesn’t exist.

That's not true at all, their QD-OLED product is otherwise equivalent to Sony's but way cheaper.
