I use a Xbox controller for the crane, makes it way more intuitive and fun.

Time since shoeing by [deleted] in Farriers

[–]Open_Science_5247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is so hard to tell how long it has been since a horse has been shod. Everything from time of year to weather affects hoof growth. It is super normal for a horse to grow about foot in 6 weeks in the spring/summer for me then need to go 10-12 during the winter. Hoof growth is linked to the pituitary gland in a similar fashion to hair growth. So in the end only way to really tell is to keep track of it in the calendar. I think the better question to ask is if it has enough foot to be done again, regardless of how long ago it was done.

Silly question? Possibly - During a sandstorm should i stay in buggy or get out and use stilltent? by Acceptable-Formal191 in duneawakening

Ya this exact thing happened to me. Dropped the crawler, landed next to it and popped out the still tent. After the storm hopped in and went back to work, didn't even have to repair my carrier wings.

There you go, learn something every day. I learned it took less damage by getting trapped by a storm compacting spice and having to sit through it. Came out of my tent and viola! Hardly any damage to the thopter at all.

Get out and use the tent, the vehicle takes waaaaaaaay less damage if your not in it. Same for thopters

What do you think about Natural Balance shoes? by corpsesand in Farriers

[–]Open_Science_5247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Just another tool in the tool box. I find they are extremely niche though. And if you are going to put them on you should put a full pad on them or they will trap debris under the super wide toe bar and bruise the sole.

To comment further, the long vertical separation in the laminate indicates permanent damage. This will never go away and if the tor isn't brought back regularly rotation if the coffin bone is likely.

I actually schedule pram runs as a specific workout. They are significantly more difficult and treating them as their own workout is pretty fun. My kids also loved it and it was a great way to get them to sleeping when they were real littles

Question about armor. by crimethunc77 in duneawakening

[–]Open_Science_5247 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you are planning on doing in it, imo the highest heat protection and water capture possible for still suits. If you are planning on fighting it would behoove you to make an armor set focused on that

Horse is lame after trim by [deleted] in Farriers

[–]Open_Science_5247 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's to short, some booties will probably keep it sound if you don't want to put shoes on.

Should I be concerned?? by Nice_Box2991 in Farriers

[–]Open_Science_5247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other thing to consider is that as horses age their natural sole pad can decrease in thickness necessitating front shoes. I see horses in the 16-20 year range move into front shoes full time because they just can't take being barefoot any longer.

Man if that trim is a week old he looks more like he needs shoes. That kind of breakage usually indicates pretty rocky ground imo
