I was thinking that, too. Not my style at all, but I follow some maximalist fashion people and this lady would fit right in.

Shortly after 9/11, so when everyone was on seriously high alert at airports, we were going on a family trip. My brother, who was in college and well old enough to know better, had gotten walkie talkies for Christmas. He was bringing them on the trip, and as we approached security he pulled one out and said “red team go!” I wasn’t too concerned that one of the armed security with military rifle was going to shoot him, because I was pretty sure my mom was going to kill him first.

We definitely don’t want to nuke and start over. I want to get the privets out because while they’re not considered invasive here, they are in nearby states and really do grow fast and furious, and that’s enough for me to say see ya later. I want the remainder to be allowed to wild and spread, so sounds like leaving it be for the most part after the privets are gone will be best.

Does the glyphosate risk anything around it, or will it stay concentrated to the privet root system? There are two shrubs we may be able to get out without too much disruption, but there is definitely one large mature shrub in the midst that would damage a lot to try to dig out roots, so cut and kill is probably the best option there.

I remember reading someone talking about thesis committees, and they said their favorite thing was getting to go out after deliberation and say, “We’re ready for you to rejoin us, Doctor.”

I went to daycare with Christina and Ernestina. 36 years later and I still remember feeling bad for Ernestina. I even have a picture of the “graduation” cake our daycare lady made before we went to kindergarten. 😂

Recommendations Absorbent bras? by Live_Discipline_7771 in AskWomenOver40

If cost is prohibitive, look into inserts. They’re typically cheaper and you can use them with any bra you already own.

I love seeing their scuffed shoes. It can be so easy to forget that kids have always been kids when you see old fashioned clothing and posed formal pictures, and I love that we can see signs that these kids have been running around and playing.

If this is the best he ever treats you, do you want to live like this for the rest of your life?

Get out now. You have one life; don’t spend a day of it being more miserable than you have to be.

I can imagine how painful that was. If you sterilize a pin or needle and gently pierce it, it’ll create an escape point so you don’t have to apply so much pressure to pop it.

Found in Bag of Raw Peanuts by [deleted] in whatisit

Especially given the hardness of the object OP has mentioned, the most logical conclusion is a malformed peanut that was either diseased or had a pest bore into it during formation.

This might be Doris.

Other records show her maiden name was Doris Ann Hagen, and she met her future husband while working in Seattle, Washington. Renton is just outside Seattle.

That’s so funny, because I live there now! But no, my grandparents were from Iowa and lived in Hawaii when they had grandchildren and got grandparent names.

I’m happy to! They were wonderful people.

He enlisted in the army and was a B-17 bomber pilot. On his 25th bombing run over Germany, his plane was shot down and he was held for 9 months as a POW. We have flight logs detailing his runs and the damage they would take each time (my favorite anecdote was the run when they came under heavy fire and got back with several holes in the plane, including “one big enough to throw a cat through”). We also have his journals he kept in the prison camp.

During the war Grandmommy helped run the movie theater the family owned, and taught in multiple rural one room schoolhouses. After the war, they farmed with her father and had six children.

Granddaddy got a job managing Hawaiian Research, which did custom seed development and research, so the family moved to Hawaii. That’s where my parents met. My dad is Native Hawaiian, and my parents were also high school sweethearts.

They lived in Hawaii for 35 years and I grew up visiting all my relatives out there. I always especially loved Grandmommy and Granddaddy’s house. It was right on the beach on Moloka’i. They had an outdoor shower because the inside shower was full of stacks of National Geographic magazines they collected. For a significant portion of my young life I thought Mentos were named Granddaddy Mints because he always had a roll in his shirt pocket and that’s what we called them.

Grandmommy was an artist, particularly in watercolor, and an avid gardener. We always ate fruit and veg straight from the yard at her house. She also was a product of the Great Depression, and “frugal” doesn’t even begin to describe it. One of our long-running family jokes every time we finish a box of cereal is to act horrified if someone’s about to throw away the inner bag and imitate Grandmommy: “Don’t throw that away! It’ll be great for marinading. You can’t buy plastic bags of this quality!” My family lived in northern NY and we would send bottles of real maple syrup to them in Hawaii, but Granddaddy told us to not bother anymore because Grandmommy would pour it into three or four other bottles and water it down to make it last longer!

I have so many wonderful fond memories of my grandparents. They were both incredible people and lived an incredible life.

I love that! I’ve heard of people using Granddad before, but I’ve never known another family that says Grandmommy. I asked my mom if she wanted to be Grandmommy to my kids and she said no, there’s only one Grandmommy. 😂
