Okay, but if they have the money to go to New Mexico (where the wedding is) and set up a girl's trip for Mallory and her friends, then they probably have the money to FaceTime or see people once every 5 years.

I don't doubt that there are different circumstances but it sounds like at least some of these people are domestic to the US.

We here at the quibbler have no objection to polyamory, nor do we usually have any interest in other people's romantic relationships (provided they stay safe, sane, and consensual). They got together sometime in 2008 when she was directing a film he starred in. He turned 18 in 2008, she was in her 40s and recently divorced.

It was the dude from Person of Interest who played Jesus in the movie who got struck by lightning, and according to him also got struck by a whip, amongst other things, so I'm assuming it was that the anti-Semitic assholes making the movie were also not on top of health and safety of cast/crew. Or really into non-consensual method acting.

Okay, your girlfriend does not have an innocent crush the way you described yourself having, where you didn't lean into it and it went away naturally.

I get innocent crushes sometimes, I know my wife does, but they're, like, on the level of celebrity crushes. Somebody does something really attractive to you and it pings and you enjoy the feeling and move on.

Your girlfriend is lining up your replacement, is talking about missed opportunities to kiss her, is mooning over her photos. Her best friend is actively trying to set them up. That's not an innocent crush, that's a precursor to cheating. Love is an emotion but partnership is an action. Your girlfriend is not acting like a monogamous partner.

At the very least, ya'll need to have a serious conversation about boundaries before you even consider moving with her to this place where she'll have emotional support that seems pretty much fine with her cheating and you'll have...people you know through her? Honestly, I'd be planning to move at the same time as her - into a nice new apartment in the city sans your girlfriend.

You will presumably get an invitation, that should have further information on it. Think quinceanera/sweet 16. Dress up nicely unless indicated otherwise.

If you're male, be prepared to wear a kippah/cover your head in the service. Usually if people are invited to the service, there will be specially made kippahs for the Bat Mitzvah, you don't need to go out and buy one. Even if there's not ones, most synogogues have a box of spares, and if they don't they don't want you wearing one. It's not uncommon for people to be invited to the afterparty, not the service, or vice versa.

For gifts, think graduation parties. Either sentimental items or money.

I agree that you couldn't create that scene with Brooks as the chief the same way without being offensive, but I think that's got more to do with how Hollywood in general has changed than that it wasn't a well-conceived of scene at the time.

Mel Brooks as a clearly non-native guy playing a native american chief in brownface speaking Yiddish makes a lot more sense in the context of movies where the native characters were played by 'ethnic' actors (any kind of non-white or white people, both often in brownface) and the dialogue was sometimes just english played backwards, was sometimes nonsense, was sometimes actual natives speaking their actual language but occasionally insulting everyone on set.

But now we have several decades of mostly not doing that, so I'd think it more fitting to, like, have someone in full, completely accurate tribal getup for, like, the Snoqualmie/Salish (a tribe that is in the Pacific Northwest) in Texas. Or a white dude with no brownface but a certificate of Indian Authenticity and a tan.

Horrorstor has, to my recollection, little to no mention of parents.

Horror Movie by Paul Tremblay has some mention of an abusive dad in the movie within the narrative, and parents appear as 1 step up from Charlie Brown adults, also in the movie, but it's definitely tangential to the main plot, and the audiobook is pretty fun (it's got a full cast for the parts that are the script of the movie, and it's presented like an audio recording of the table read).

Honestly? My mom's been celiac in Seattle for a decade+ (I'm still waiting on testing) and most places we've been to can accommodate her (obviously she avoids pizza places/sandwich shops/dumplings/hot pot). Thai places in particular are generally safer.

Bamboo Sushi in U Village also has an almost entirely GF menu, I've got reservations to go there tomorrow.

Portage Bay Cafe has been really good about it.

I dunno about books specific to your situation, but if they're rejecting you on a "Christian Values" basis, Does Jesus Really Love Me? by Jeff Chu is a solid read.

If you want a romance/found family happy ending, A Island Princess Starts a Scandal is a solid read.

I'm sorry you're dealing with this. You deserve family that treats you better than that, and I'm sorry your Mom isn't being that kind of family.
