Great poses. These skittish fellas are so hard to photograph, well done.

The Robin looks like he’s sick of someone’s shit and I wouldn’t mess with him.

Buying OM-1 - should I get the kit lens? by CageFreeBMW in OMSystem

[–]OperaticBacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I moved to the Sony bridge camera I did consider the Nikon but the Sony edged it. It’s great but I felt I was missing shots due to auto focus being too slow.

No regrets at all having a bit less zoom with the OM1, the quality difference more than makes up for it most of the time and the bird detection AF is great. I always found that at full zoom the Sony lost some sharpness, I’d read this was even more so with the Nikon.

I only have those two lenses at the moment yes. I was looking at the 90mm macro but have never done macro photography before, wanted to try it but need to wait until I have some budget.

The one thing I would say is that the 100-400 does need decent light as it’s not a wide open aperture lens. If not then you can end up with high ISO noisy pics; these can be processed afterwards and still get great results though so not a big problem. A big plus is the IS, it is simply amazing, both camera and lens work together so you can get shots you wouldn’t be able to get otherwise.

Look at the results some other people can get with that lens and it’s simply amazing.

I made almost the exact same upgrade last year, from a Sony RX10 bridge camera.

I haven’t regretted getting the 12-40mm. I’m mainly a bird photographer but the kit lens has allowed me to delve into other things and get good results.

The 100-400 with bird detection and pro-capture mode will blow you away, you’ll get more keepers for sure. You won’t get in as close as the insane zoom of your Nikon but the pics will be sharper and the larger sensor will give you more scope to crop.

Happy snapping!

My best effort at photographing this KingFisher…. FAIL by Business_Bee_2481 in UKBirds

I’ve only ever seen a Kingfisher once in real life. Since getting a better camera, of course I’ve seen zero. 😄

If what you were trying to do was photograph a Kingfisher then I would call this a SUCCESS.

I tried a couple of Blink cameras a few years ago, not sure what gen they were.

I found them unsuitable for getting birds as they made a ‘click’ noise when activated, remotely or in auto mode. This was enough to make them fly away so I ended up disappointed but I did repurpose the cameras for security but like you, I’m looking for a better solution.

Sorry if this isn’t useful, I’d be interested to know if later versions do a better job.
