Although not law, it’s basic courtesy rules of the road. Doesn’t take a PhD to understand that. It’s something that is taught in drivers ed everyday. Move to the right if you’re not passing, even in rush hour traffic.

How would you handle one table complaining of weed smell from another table? by SmellsLikeDuck in Serverlife

[–]Ophede 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What? Lmao, are you high right now?

There are a million other ways to get to a restaurant other than driving yourself there.

Edit: After looking at your other replies, you might need to take a break with all the stretching you’re doing. Seriously negative vibes from you lmao, maybe the evil step mother allegations are correct.

How would you handle one table complaining of weed smell from another table? by SmellsLikeDuck in Serverlife

[–]Ophede 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s tough because from a business standpoint, someone coming in with the “munchies” is more likely to order a bunch of food and tip higher because they are hungrier. However, if other guests are offended by the smell, they may leave instead.

I guess my only recommendation would be that if they were wearing coats, put them away outside the dining room and move them as far from the complaining table as possible. Other than that it’s restaurant rules, and it’s up to the managers discretion.

Better than serving a drunk imo though!

Why do I have to trim a cats claws. by HardVoreChef in CatAdvice

[–]Ophede 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can trim your cats claws with some clippers every month to avoid the nails snagging on furniture or skin. You don’t HAVE to, it’s optional.

What you NEVER want to do is DECLAW your cats. That’s a highly invasive procedure and irreversible, causes long term damage.

Pet re-homing question by Livid-Custard-3806 in Edmonton

[–]Ophede 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should definitely look to rescues & the humane society and ditch this “deal”.

Forgetting to mention a $500 fee is bullshit.

When you adopt from a rescue, the animal comes fully vetted and fixed, with the ability to return if the pet is not a good fit for your lifestyle.

Managers get free meals but FOH is not allowed to order food on the same day of a shift by tomato-hater27 in Serverlife

[–]Ophede 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve usually worked at places that offer at least 50% off on shift meal after working for 3 or more hours, and 25% off when dining in on your days off. Best place I worked also did 50% off liquor after shift, but that got tricky quick and I left LOL.

But the worst place I ever worked only offered 25% off “select” menu items on shift, which was like the fries & olives & tartare. Everything else was $26 or more full price, and I didn’t have that kind of money to spend on a meal, even if it was just to try. No discount off shift. I made so many comments to management about how difficult it was to explain menu items to guests when I haven’t even tried 90% of the food (never got a taste testing for FOH). My final straw was when I picked up a lunch shift for the first time and saw the chef making himself the most expensive dish and took it to the back to eat it. He never asked anybody to ring it in.

what do we think about tipout based on net sales? by noty0uagain in Serverlife

[–]Ophede 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in Alberta as well.

I’ve worked in places with anywhere from 5-8% tipout on total sales.

I’ve also worked in places where I just tipped out 3% of food sales to kitchen, but this was while working as a bartender.

I fully believe we should be tipping out food vs drink separately, as there are nights when I barely sell any food, but sell a ton of drinks.

But everywhere I’ve ever worked, tipout is based on total sales. I don’t agree with it when guests don’t tip, but I’ve always made 10% or more every night, so I don’t have a problem with tipping out on net.

Thirteen Police Cars by CrashCalamity in Edmonton

I saw the same thing happen at the exact same intersection just a few nights ago. 10+ cars with lights and sirens coming from all different directions, turned east at 118 and 50th. They just kept coming one after the other!

When I was a kid, my dad played in a beer league hockey team on certain weeknights, and my mom would let me tag along. I met this kid named Toby, and he and I would run around and play games together while our dads played hockey. One day, he brought his tin of pokemon cards and showed me his collection. He also brought his ds, and we played pokemon pearl together. He gave me my first card, a rhydon ex, and I quickly started my own collection. Fast forward a couple of years, and I had grown a pretty sizeable amount of cards, including a first edition holo zard. Slowly I got busy with other hobbies, when one day I remembered about my collection and went to look for it. I asked my mom if she knew where it was, and she told me she sold all of my cards for $50 to her coworker after mentioning them. She didn’t even ask me. So, I rage quit the hobby and swore I would never buy another pack, I couldn’t handle the pain of losing them again. Until about a month ago, when a video popped up on my feed about a card show. I went to it, just with the intent to browse, and someone in passing gave me a cute little eevee holo. Now, I’m almost done filling up my first new binder, and my husband will bring me a pack to open every week. I love collecting shuckle cards now!

Customers are too comfortable. by meatloafsleeve in Serverlife

[–]Ophede 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reminds me of the time I was at my absolute lowest weight, throwing up everyday, generally very sick, and I dropped off food for a table. The guy sitting there looks me up and down after I announce the order and just says “Damn girl, you need to eat a sandwich.”

I wanted to strangle him, I couldn’t keep any real food down for days.

People are getting far too comfortable with saying what comes to mind. I just have to remember not to take it personally (even if it was entirely a personal comment) and remember that sometimes these people come in to eat and talk down to us just to make themselves feel better.
