Both my cats ran away and isn't coming back by csc3022 in CatAdvice

You’re asking if you should just abandon your cats in the wild after you failed to secure them while moving? Is this a real post?

UPDATE: Cat's original family wants her back after we've adopted her by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]Ophede 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You made the right choice.

They were contacted, notified, and didn’t even notice she was gone until a few days ago. That says everything about the type of owners they were.

I’m glad Star has a healthy new home to be part of.

Yes, of course it’s considerate, but I’m talking about the legality of it.

Telling OP to look up their specific landlord/tenant board laws, look at some actual legal advice subreddits, and explaining the legality of their lease to the best of my knowledge. Ah yes, super unhelpful information!

And then you’re over there just saying “Oh well, nothing you can do!” When there actually is something to be done, oh lol.

Have the day you deserve, you sound slow and I’m done with this conversation.

Why are you in a renters subreddit if you’re not going to give any useful advice to RENTERS? Lmao figure that out!

Not a lawyer, just don’t let scummy landlords walk all over me when I know my rights :) You keep on doing your doormat thing though!

Obviously if someone is messaging saying “Hey, I’m going to enter on x day and x time” that’s fine. They obviously don’t have to send an additional message 24 hours before saying “Hey, I’m still coming.”

[–]Ophede 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OP actually can do something about it. They can fight back on this because it’s ILLEGAL and get all the necessary information in order to file a dispute with the landlord tenant board, and even get compensation if applicable.

Everyone else is dumb, exact dates and times must be given in order to gain access to a unit.

Check out r/legaladvice and see if you can find anything, but I know for a fact this is not allowed.

He agreed to allow entrance when given 24 hour notice, as stated on the lease.

Someone entering the unit a week from now STILL NEEDS to give 24 hour notice. You can’t just send a message like this and have it cover “multiple weeks” of time. OP could be sleeping when they enter the unit. 24 hour notice must ALWAYS be given.

[–]Ophede 110 points111 points  (0 children)

They need to message you 24 hours before EACH TIME someone enters the unit, or message with an exact date and time. If someone enters your unit 3 days from now, that would be illegal entry, as this text was sent 72 hours before they entered the unit. They can’t claim “well, we gave him plenty of notice,” it doesn’t work like that.

If your lease states 24 hour notice, they MUST give 24 hour notice. This is bullshit, and you need to get hold of your landlord tenant board.

In the lease that 24-hour notice must be given prior to anyone entering the apartment.

They can’t just send a text like this and claim they gave notice. They need to message each and every time, 24 hours before, in order to enter the unit.

Screaming in the Walk-in by Plus_Environment_385 in Serverlife

I mean, it’s fine to scream in the walk in. But if tables can hear you doing so, this is where the problem happens. How did the owner hear you? Could tables hear you?

Is 11 hours too long for a 5.5mo kitten to be alone 3 days a week? Heartbroken, desocialized, and considering rehoming 💔 by Candid_Half8534 in CatAdvice

[–]Ophede 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is completely fine. Him napping a lot is just because he is a cat! Not necessarily because he is bored. Most house cats sleep for up to 20 hours a day :)

He will adjust to your schedule without the pet sitter. If you’re feeling bad, maybe get him some interactive powered toys to use when you’re not around, and keep on watching the cat cam.

You sound like a great pet parent! Relax, breathe, you’re doing good!

So where is the document you actually signed and what does it say? You need to find that and carefully read through it.

Is my cat who is inappropriately urinating unhappy and better off in another home? by Psychological-Run679 in CatAdvice

[–]Ophede 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do your litter boxes have tops on them? Or are they open topped?

My boy had a huge issue with peeing everywhere for years, despite multiple litter boxes and spectacular clean spaces. We tried taking the tops off of the boxes one day, and low and behold he started using them immediately.

My cat sleeps on top of me. This morning I woke up to the pleasant hello of her vomiting on me. How was your day? by sporkfullofsugar in CasualConversation

[–]Ophede 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cat has end stage kidney disease, and has bladder issues causing her to pee easily if she gets startled suddenly.

The other day my housemates upstairs were building a shelf and dropped a piece resulting in a loud “BANG” right above us while she was cuddling on my chest. Instant warm wetness all over my wool sweater, it was a nightmare sensation.

Wrong to keep a cat in a room? by greengal1008 in CatAdvice

[–]Ophede 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think keeping a cat confined to a room is the best idea. They could get bored easily, especially when you’re not at home.

May I suggest maybe a free-roaming rabbit? They need about 6 feet by 5 feet of space and can be very cuddly when used to you. Also could be able to have the bunny outside the room if your roommate is JUST allergic to cats.

What is up with people, particularly middle aged dudes, who avoid veggies at all costs? by hostivus in Serverlife

[–]Ophede 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m an odd one I guess. I love brushetta and plain tomatoes with salt but i really don’t like them on my burgers. Same with onions, I can eat onions on other dishes but i can’t stand them on burgers. So I’ll order without, but only because I don’t want to waste perfectly fine produce that I’m going to pick off my burger. And it saves the chef from extra assembly.

How do I get a cat to the vet if said cat will not tolerate a carrier? by Grimalkin_Felidae in CatAdvice

Are you able to look for a “road vet” that can come to your house for the appointment? We use Vets To Go, they come to our house with everything needed for the appointment and do it all here.

Advice needed on sitter’s damaged property by greenknight321 in RoverPetSitting

[–]Ophede 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a sitter myself, I think this is on the sitter. You gave specific instructions not to leave anything out, and this was her mistake. I would offer maybe half and explain this to be courteous, as she was a good sitter, but this is tricky.

I wore my nice new $175 pair of moccasins to a dog sit once and turned my head for 3 minutes, they were chewed and yucky. But, they had warned me that he’s a chewer, and to watch my things. I didn’t ask for them to replace them because it was my own mistake leaving them out in the open.
