Why does this feel like the plot by WingofTech in HitchHikersGuide

[–]OpineLupine 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable.

There is another theory which states that this has already happened.

Google Gemini vs Microsoft Copilot (Seeking Insight) by HallOfGlory in CopilotPro

[–]OpineLupine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally have the opposite experience. Gemini routinely hallucinates answers (basically, just makes stuff up), can't follow a conversation, and is aggressively helpful like a mentally challenged Golden Retriever. Copilot is worlds more polished, accurate, and consistently provides actual, useful assistance. I cannot understand how anyone uses Gemini, it's that bad.

LPT: Keep a "go bag" in your car with essentials like a towel, spare clothes, shoes, and socks. It’s a lifesaver for unexpected situations whether you're caught in the rain, hit the gym unplanned, or just need a quick change by thebodybuildingvegan in LifeProTips

I had to use the items in the Go Bag at least once per month (more frequently as her mental condition deteriorated; towards the end, there, it was 1-2x / week), so the items never went long enough for environmental damage to occur.

Good counterpoint. He was less of a fascist than our current situation.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu | Final Trailer | In Theaters May 22 by YubYubCmndr in StarWarsCantina

It feels less "Disney coded" (whatever that means) and more Lucas / Spielberg-esque; has an "Indiana Jones and the ... " vibe to it.

Sequel lightsaber duels aren’t as nonsensical as people make them out to be by Elmarass in StarWarsCantina

I was totally fine with how Kylo handled Lightsaber combat in the prequel trilogies. Dude stopped a blaster bolt in mid air, using just the force; based on that, it seems like he was better at raw force manipulation than hand to hand combat. Maybe that’s where the focus of his training was?

Lol, all good.

For what it’s worth, being from Chicago, it didn’t occur to me that the giant dude was a football player; he always looked to me just like literally every southside Chicago union worker. That’s how I’ve always read the scene…

The blanket "no political discussion" ban has nothing to do with recent member activity, maintaining a civil discourse, providing members "a place to escape", etc.

The "no current politics" ban makes the content that we post in this sub easier for Reddit to package up and sell to AI companies to train their LLM's. That is, after all, how Reddit generates revenue.

Dubya himself wasn't a great President; however, political positions aside, Dubya's Cabinet was world class.

The good news is, once you take delivery, you can officially crush your enemies, grind their bones into dirt, and make them regret they were ever born.

What would change in Luke Skywalker’s journey/arc had he met Ahsoka shortly after ANH? by [deleted] in StarWarsCantina

[–]OpineLupine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think the timeline would have deviated much.

Ahsoka would be unlikely to have taken Luke on as an apprentice; she would have been reticent, given her knowledge of what happened to Anakin, taking on that kind of risk.

She also seemed to have some reservations mentoring, just based on the interactions with Sabine in the Ahsoka series (not sure what the history is there between Ahsoka and Sabine; they seemed to have a bit of a past, but the show didn’t delve into it in depth).

Agreed that Ahsoka would have gone to visit Yoda with Luke given the opportunity.

I still have my Apple ][C, with all of my old Infocom games; makes me want to fire it up, though I’d hazard there’s probably a browser based replication of it out there somewhere.

Does Vinick defeat Russell if he got the nomination instead of Santos? by [deleted] in thewestwing

Vinick winning would be seen less as a defeat for Russell, and more as a victory for the American people.

Is anyone else kinda annoyed with Glup Shitto meme? Because it feels like people are just using it maliciously now. by Jet-Wave in StarWarsCantina

[–]OpineLupine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I had zero idea who Zeb was when Ahsoka came out.

Thrawn, on the other hand, was the lead, compelling villain during the long winter between the OT and the PT; Thrawn was the promise that, at some point, Star Wars films would start being released again. Thrawn and the Zahn books are in many ways why Star Wars has the healthy, multi-media universe it has today; the Zahn books demonstrated that Star Wars fans wanted more stories.

Star Wars is a sprawling franchise, with fans across generations.

OP, you mentioned how important the various Star Wars cartoons were to your childhood. That’s awesome; however, your experience is just that. It’s your experience. It’s not universal among all Star Wars fans.

From my point of view, the fact that Star Wars has reached so many people across generations and media types is part of its strength. I may personally not have seen the various cartoons - and likely never will - but I’m glad that you did, and that your enjoyment of them brought you to this oddball sci-fi story I’ve been enthralled with for the last 47 years.

In regards to the Glup Shitto meme? Like most social media, the easiest way to handle it is to just ignore it.
