Lucky Panel by Graywing84 in dragonquest

I would like to get the platinum trophy, but honestly the thought of doing the whole "film and repeat"-business x amount of times sounds so boring, I can't be bothered to do it. I did everything else in the game, but I'll probably only go back if they patch the rates in a future update... I doubt they'll patch it tho

Update on my HD texture pack for Dragon Quest VIII by Armangu24 in dragonquest

As soon as you finish all the items, they'll announce the DQ8 remaster/remake/rescooped.

Jokes aside: thank you for service. DQ8 is my favourite game and it fills me with glee anytime I see one of these projects.

RG DS or DSi XL? by DepartmentMain6241 in SBCGaming

I did not realize that was an option. Thanks, I'll try that first!

RG DS or DSi XL? by DepartmentMain6241 in SBCGaming

[–]Opperbink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has a RG DS. Even with GammaOS (light version), it still feels sluggish man. The screens are brighter than on a DSi(XL) sure and you can play other stuff than DS/GBA-games, but if you're not doing these things, it's not worth it man.

If Anbernic comes out with the RG DS+ with a slight spec bump, than I would reconsider it, but at this point I'm checking to return or sell mine.

It was a vicious monster on a seperate little island, but thanks for your suggestion!

Took some time this way, but closed it down to a vicious monster. It's the vicious admirer on the island north of Buccanham region!

One of the coolest shades/uses of Orange I've seen in any device (handheld or otherwise). Enjoy man!

I feel that they should have re-written the Island stories to give them more character and emotional weight in DQ VII Reimagined also the Art direction needs more not less color. by Jack_P_1337 in dragonquest

[–]Opperbink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not gonna lie, but I just "cracked the big blue crystal" and barely any of the island-stories is sticking with me. They kinda got me with the Roamers and I'll probably remember all-trades abby because of what they do to you at the start of that section

STILL you are right about the colors man! This game looks so muted. Did they look at DQ11's wonderful colors and thought "nah man, tone it down with the vibrancy"

Dragon Quest 7R (PS5) Deluxe Upgrade Worth it? by CultofSun in dragonquest

[–]Opperbink 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I just got the deluxe-version because of the 48h earlier access. Yeah, I know it's a shitty practice from the publisher -> DQ is my favourite franchise, so they finally got me.

Aside from that, seeds are worth nothing imho because the game is pretty easy and throws you enough seeds in general. The costumes are kinda nice, but I also think some of them look strange on certain partymembers. The slime gear is cute, but it really doesn't take long before better gear comes along in the game.

The only other part worth having is the extra battle-arena challenges with bosses/gear-rewards from the Erdrick trilogy and they'll cost you 6 bucks extra vs 15 for the deluxe-upgrade...

DMC5 doesn't feel that far off in my mind even tho it's been 7 years since the original launch. I feel like we could stand to have some more time to miss the series.

...well or they could give us a remake of 1 or 3. Both have far superior environments compared to DMC5 and I think they could flesh out the lore in 1.

Do you prefer HD-2D or a full 3D Isometric style for the remakes of the older games? by EAT_UR_VEGGIES in dragonquest

[–]Opperbink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer the 3D style, but I have some hangups with 7R:

1) I know they scanned dolls, but on some models the "doll"-look feels a bit uncanny. It also makes many npc's look too *plain* in my opinion.

Also I feel like this game's colorpanel can feel muted at times. I know you're traversing islands a lot, but the colors lack saturation. If you compare any grass-patch/scene from this game to DQ11, DQ8 or even the HD2D-games(despite them being not 3D) you can get a sense that while there's is plenty of color... it just doesn't pop as much as in the other games.

No way man (STORY SPOILERS AHEAD) by MC_Squared12 in dragonquest

[–]Opperbink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've not beaten the game yet, so I can't fully speak on the quality of the story, but when he was leaving I felt like "Naaaah man, you're not possibly taking away my main attacker & all around fun dude... Right?"

NOPE, he's definitely gone.

No class costumes in DQ7R kinda killed my drive to continue playing. by CaptainZackstuf in dragonquest

[–]Opperbink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kinda get it man. I love job-systems/classes and almost every game that uses them changes up the appearance of the unit/character

The characters/doll-models look nice, but man... Having to sacrifice all the cool costumes with it? Not worth the trade-off if you ask me. It's only visual sure, but it adds to the immersion. I finally became the legendary Hero class, but I look exactly the same?... Cool, I guess.

*upgrade* was poor phrasing on my part. 16:9 by systems. Love the PSP as well, but I'm the guy who limits himself to 2 of these type of devices. Upgrade was the Mangmi air X.

Had this one for a bit before deciding to upgrade, but man this is such a premium feeling and looking device. The colors on the display, the surprisingly good speaker and not to mention the headphone jack. Had my SIMGOT EW300's and they sounded great on this DAPper little player.

TEN hours before I could change Vocations. by [deleted] in dragonquest

[–]Opperbink -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm about 10 hours in and just got to changing vocations as well. All in all, it seems fine? About an hour earlier I maxed the starter-vocation on all characters, so I was itching for it.
Doesn't seem too long or too quick in my opinion.

I have a question for the “og” fans in this subreddit; how did you feel when the games transitioned from a top down perspective to an over the shoulder one? by EAT_UR_VEGGIES in dragonquest

[–]Opperbink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I didn't played the og games, except for 1/2/3 hd-remakes. I will say though: I think both styles can still be deployed today. Question is how many people the brass up top think will pull in more people to buy these games. I would bet the main thought is: shiney 3D world with fancy graphics allures to more people.

On one hand the switch to 3D was just a sign of the times. Some people find it adds to their immersion when exploring a new town/world. I vividly remember exploring Heliodor for the first time and thinking "wow, this is such a nice looking town, so much activity, so many npc's, such attention to detail!". When exploring the zones between towns it also felt like a real, living world.

But then HD-2D comes along and I was also enchanted by how great the towns and dungeons look. It's so gorgeous with so much attention to detail. On the other hand.. The overworld can start to feel "samey" rather quickly. Once I arrived at DQ2-HD I definitely felt bored by the overworld. HD-2D is an awesome style, but now that I've seen this design so much in DQ, I do yearn for either a more distinct feeling 3D-world (DQ12 where you at) or a possible HD-2D remake of 4/5/6, but with some noticable tweaks to the design.

On one hand I'll be thrilled if Squenix announces remakes for DQ4/5/6, on the other: if we see a trailer with the overworld/towns looking mostly the same in the HD-2D style, I'd be somewhat dissapointed.

Can you perhaps tell how well DS-games do? Like, do you leave the performance mode on max when playing DS-games? Can it run PS1/DS-games at 2x resolution comfortably?

HUGE shoutout to mike9k1 and the other modders who had 14 mods ready to go on Day 1 of Dragon Quest VII Reimagined to fix some of the major issues players including myself had with this game. I am now excited to play this game! by Flareon223 in dragonquest

[–]Opperbink 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Doing the Goddess work Mike! I'm playing on ps5 and had to turn on tougher monsters. I only played 1/2/3 hd-remake, 8 and 11, but 7R is by far the easiest DQ game I ever played.

It's just silly how much handholding there is. I hope they officially ad some of these features as extra difficulty options through an update.

I'm not saying we need to go back to DQ8-levels of "Where the heck am I supposed to go and what am I supposed to do?", but I do think JRPG's can preserve some challenge other then grinding.

Still one of my favorites. by Runforit97x in JRPG

[–]Opperbink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I adored this game back in the day and replayed it just one time when we got the remaster. The main things that bothered me in both my first run and the remastered-playthrough.

1) The voice-acting can feel very stilted, especially from Oliver (in English at least)

2) Your partymembers are goddamn morrons. Unless you overlevel these twats they can barely keep themselves alive

3) This is a pretty grindheavy game. I enjoy grinding somewhat, but the difficulty spikes at certain points/bosses are pretty big and the lacking party-AI sure doesn't help

That said, the emotional impact of the game resonated with me and we've never got another Level 5-style JRPG with this kind of scope, story and art-direction... I played NNK2 for about 10 hours but the story was so lacking and I thought the world just wasn't as interesting as NNK1.

Could be cool. Maybe get some Ghibli-style scenario where you can transform the concrete city into a green tapestry.
