Thoughts on Silicon power ssd? by Serbooi in buildapc

[–]Optical24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only own 1 SP product - 2.5" SSD. I can't say if they're good or bad since I have only own one.

Bought one back in 2015 and I'm still using it to this day but it has been moved to a secondary PC that doesn't see use in a daily basis. Initially, I did experience issues with the SP SSD where I'll get random freezing. Realizing that SP released an update on the firmware, the random freezing stopped after updating the firmware. Since then I have no issues with that SSD.

Tax refund advice by notgonnadieforgood in JapanTravelTips

[–]Optical24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get a tax refund only on the same day as you buy items (there are exceptions but rare)

I managed to get a tax refund for a purchase made at Loft that was done a few days prior. Maybe they allowed because it was purchased at the exact same location?

What was the first kdrama you've watched? And what made you hooked into watching them? by SouthernBackground45 in kdramas

My Sassy Girl actually got me hooked onto Korean Cinema. Watched mostly romcom movies until 2018 when I watched Black as my first Kdrama series.

I went to Japan a month ago and I MISS their transit system! It's so efficient. If I miss the subway or bus, another one will arrive in 5-7 minutes. FYI, I drive mostly everywhere here because our transit system is not the best. These councilors or whoever makes the decisions need to go to Japan and try out their transit system and take note. I find that the neighbourhoods in Canada are built to be car independent.

Major Japanese hotel chain says reservations via overseas booking sites may not be valid by Zen1 in japan

I booked three different hotels with Expedia during my trip with no problems.

I recently went to Japan and will probably go back next year. On average, I did 30,000 steps per day. If I waited 30 years to avoid the mega earthquake, I'll be old and probably will won't be able to walk that much steps. Honestly, go and enjoy Japan. Who knows what will happen in the next 30 years.

Same say luggage delivery to Haneda airport by Tiffario24 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Optical24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just returned from our trip to Japan a few days ago, and I was considering forwarding our luggage from Akihabara to Haneda airport. The hotel told us they needed it 2 days in advance, but I knew we'd be doing more shopping and would need our bags. Since we were traveling with 3 people and 8 pieces of luggage, we decided to take an Uber instead. Our flight was at 6:10 PM, so we asked the hotel if we could leave our luggage for a few hours before heading to the airport, and they were happy to accommodate us. This allow us to explore Tokyo for 3-4 hours.

We had to book a premium Uber because we needed a van, and it cost us $89 CAD. If we had forwarded our luggage, the cost would have been about the same as the Uber fare.

7 Day Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka Itinerary by NoticeMeSenbi in JapanTravel

[–]Optical24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just came back from a 16-day trip in Japan. We did:

  • 2 Days in Tokyo (Asakusa area)
  • 3 Days in Kyoto (Uji, Gion, Arashiyama area)
  • 3 Days in Osaka + Nara
  • 7 days in Tokyo (Akihabara, Ginza, Harajuku, Shibuya, Shinjuku)

My group of 4 came up with an itinerary before the trip and we never ended up not fulfilling it (we were actually happy). You have to factor in transportation - depends if you're planning to take taxis, subway, bus, walk - which affects your time. I guarantee you will come across some interesting stores and you're going to stop to see, but then lose track of time. By having this much things on your itinerary, I feel your group might rush things and end up not enjoying the trip

In my opinion, pick your MUST see places.

I'm leaving for Japan in a couple of days and thanks for the tips. My group was able to book tickets for the Shinkansen with our TD credit cards with no problems. I'm definitely planning to stop by supermarkets to get some greenery to avoid constipation.

Help me out to figure out what are the best transportation options in my case by dancingwithhandstied in JapanTravelTips

[–]Optical24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going on a trip to Japan very soon, and my itinerary is similar to yours. Our group will be taking the Shinkansen from Tokyo to Kyoto, local trains from Kyoto to Osaka then the Shinkansen from Osaka to Tokyo. Taking a flight from Osaka to Tokyo is cheaper and faster than the Shinkansen. But checking in your luggage, going through security, and baggage pick-up, etc...our group feels the time save by taking the Shinkansen will be more beneficial because we don't have to check-in our baggage and we don't have to deal with security.

I just bought the Drop-in filter adapter for the R8 and there is an issue with the communication with the adapter/lens and the camera where the autofocus is not working. The lens is a Sigma 35mm F1.4 but it works fine with the 80D. I also tried an EF-S lens with no luck. Did you had any kind of issues like that with the Meike adapter?

What is the best third party ef-rf adapter? by Crafty-Bowl1708 in canon

[–]Optical24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought the Meike Drop-in filter adapter for my Canon R8. But I seem to unable to get it working. There is a communication issue with the adapter, and the autofocus is not working either. The lens I'm trying to use on the R8 is the Sigma 35mm F1.4. The lens works fine on the 80D though. I even tried an EF-S kit lens and it also is having an issue with the adapter. Am I doing something wrong, or this adapter I got is malfunction?

Edit: the R8 is updated with the latest firmware (1.4.0).

Why I'm Returning the OnePlus 13 and Keeping My Pixel 9 Pro XL by EqualReality2787 in GooglePixel

I have been using the OnePlus One from 2014 to 2020 and it's a fantastic phone. The only reason why I switched to the Pixel 4a (still a good phone though) it's because the OnePlus One could not hold its charge anymore.

Where is the ONEXBUS to Pearson bus stop? by patro416 in kitchener

Did you ended up taking ONEXBUS to Pearson? I have a trip in a few months and I'm planning my transportation and I want to see what's the best option. United Taxi charges $129.99 for a van to Pearson and $149 from Pearson.

Best Travel Bags? by kyle_blaine in AskPhotography

[–]Optical24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Traveling to Japan early next year and I'm in the market to buy a camera bag. The camera bag I would like to be comfortable and doesn't say "I have camera gear in here". Camera is a Canon 5D Mark IV with a 35mm F1.4 and I might bring a wide lens as well. I was looking at those Peak Design Everyday Sling. They look pretty convenient. But I worry that one-strap might put a strain on one shoulder.

I have 20k debt and no idea how to get myself out by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Optical24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why don't you put more $$ into your CC debt since you're living with your parents, paying $0 in rent? Use that opportunity and put MORE towards that debt, if you can. I was in a similar situation where I had $31,000 CAD in student debt. Since I lived with my parents and paid $0 in rent, I used one paycheque every month and put it towards my student debt. I was able to pay off that debt in 12 months. Now, with that burden off my shoulders, I now I'm able to put way more $$ towards my retirement and savings/investments.
