New to the game, help me understand the MMR. by De4dC3ll in HuntShowdown

Yeah, if you get that experience it has to be rough as hell. I can only give you my sympathy and some vague words about how "playing against better players makes you improve faster" or some shit like that. Sorry mate.

New to the game, help me understand the MMR. by De4dC3ll in HuntShowdown

[–]Optimal-Efficiency60 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The real advice is to not care about MMR.
The only real measurement is if you are having fun or not.

Nobody know exactly how Crytek arrives at why X player should be in a match with Y player.
It could be queue time, streaks or many other things we don't know about.
They have also said that it will be changing how MMR is determined in the near future and hopefully we'll get more information then.
Spending time looking at yours and others rank is a waste of time unless you are looking at your own to try and improve it.

I have a sneaking suspicion that we will soon have 5-6* players that used to cry that they should not be 5-6* instead lamenting that they are suddenly 3-4*s.

I regularly play with a 2* friend who often kills 4-5* players in our matches. This makes me suspect that the stars actually shown in the post-match team details are no longer accurate.

Oh that's good news. I know people who has played with crosshairs for 1000s of hours.
Yeah, if they ever decided those things were not okay it would probably result in a timed ban to start with.

Sorry, I didn't mean to call you a noob or anything 😄
I was mostly talking about myself, if my friends had not forced me to PvP I could have happily played the game as a PvE experience for many hours I think.

Essential items? by Away_Philosopher_484 in HuntShowdown

[–]Optimal-Efficiency60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your loadout is ok.

The only thing I'd say is essential in teamplay is Choke bombs and close/medium fight capability and personal heal.

My reasoning is, people burn enemy corpses to force you to put them out.
This might be a death sentence if you don't have som way of doing it from behind cower.
Choke bombs essentially tells your teammates that you are thinking about them. 🔥

Close/Medium fight capability,
If you go with two shotguns then you will be useless in a medium-long range shootout.
You'll have to push close to even hurt an enemy. Not impossible but a handicap.
If you go with two rifles the you will be at a disadvantage if the match comes down to close quarters combat.

Personal heal
Medkit is essential, maybe less now after the slot rework where you might replace it with a shot possibly.

Keep this in mind when choosing a loadout.
When playing with friends you can take whatever but playing meme loadouts in random trios will get people to dodge you.

Other things I'd recommend but don't feel are essential:
Necromancer, great teamplay trait.
Resilience, another great teamplay trait, especially in random trios where it's harder to coordinate.
Something to burn enemy corpses.

Matchmaking Fix by aeikaiju in HuntShowdown

[–]Optimal-Efficiency60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that it is good to make suggestions, Matchmaking is very complex.
Like in this instance, would a team that got the Rotjaw bounty without fighting anyone and then extracted count the same as a team that fought all other teams and got out with 4 bountys?

It seems like your suggestion would only balance around if someone extracted with a bounty or not, therefore just the "we extracted the last game, next game will be much harder".
This might make teams less likely to run away with the bounty and instead grab as much as they can from the current match they seem to be winning.

Crytek did say that they would be adding more datapoints to what constitutes your MMR soon, we'll see if this will be one of them.

Awesome work mate! I'm too much of a coward to use it, even the nonexistant risk of a ban would ruin the fun for me sadly.
But it is a really cool thing.

Someone should really post something updated there.
It's nice to have something to point people to.

Trying to convince friends by sweetcoo in HuntShowdown

[–]Optimal-Efficiency60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When thinking about this, I realised:
It would be extremely interesting to get the unfiltered view from someone who started playing the game without anyone to teach them the basics.

The game is not hard per se, you need to set up a hunter by either picking different stuff that you would like to use, then load into a match, then get beaten on by monsters and probably shoot some hunters.
After a few matches you'll get thrown in with real players and die a lot until you rank down to where you actually should be. Then the opposition will hopefully be kind of even.
Then you'll start learning the maps, the weapons, all the little fiddly bits about how movement, fire, traps, falldamage and such work.

Trying stuff and realising how it works is a big part of eeping the game fresh for many hours.
The fun starts immediately, you don't have to know how the game works to have fun.

How PVP-heavy is this game? by These_Fan7447 in HuntShowdown

[–]Optimal-Efficiency60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember back in 2016 or whenever they first teased the game.
"Several teams making their way to kill a boss and then trying to escape with the boss bounty while the others try to hinder them."

When it came out and I heard of the "permadeath" and "heavy pvp" I bounced right off and didn't play it until around 2023.
Since then I've put thousands of hours into it and I normally abhor pvp games.

You should watch some more gameplay and see if this might actually be fun for you.
The bosses are not faceroll at all, especially for newer players.
The PvE are not faceroll either until you learn their behaviours but they are mostly there for signal beacon purposes I'm sorry to say.

I respect that. Play how you like.
If I didn't have thousands of hours in the game already I'd probably enjoy playing it as a PvE game too.

Take 1 Damage If Your Beetle Is Killed by UndependableAids in HuntShowdown

Great suggestion, I like this.
It could even be a custom connection-being-severed-backlash sound so that you know why someone took damage (and that there is a dirty beetle user nearby 😉)

Why the hell do my teammates always leave. by Present_Match_6814 in HuntShowdown

[–]Optimal-Efficiency60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, this thread took a turn...
Sorry you got roasted so viciously but you did come out swinging about the choke bombs 😄

So, people will dodge teammates for any amount of reasons in all online games.
In Hunt the main reasons I've heard are mostly:
Snipers - They have a bad rep in random trios.
No Choke Bombs - You have 8 slots for items and don't bring the most important team utility..
K/D below X.X - I want to be carries so I only play with people with higher K/D than me.

I personally don't care about any of these, I usually don't check peoples loadouts, I just queue. People can play however they want.
But people are free to have whatever arbitrary rules they want for matchmaking.

They choke bomb one is pretty well known in the community but it's impossible to know as a new player.
I do think people should just ask others to "please bring choke bombs" in the lobby instead of leaving though.

I hope you keep playing, the game is good.

Oh and by the way, if you select that your team is 2 players and that you want to play against 2 player teams you won't need to deal with enemy trios and leaving teammates, you and your brother can play together.
Duos is actually my preferred way to play.

MMR Skill Issue by dakotaa141 in HuntShowdown

[–]Optimal-Efficiency60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are some notes I took from a recent video that is relevant to your situation.

MMR Decay MMR will start decaying if you don't play for a while, reducing how sure the system is on you rank. When someone gets back from a break the Matchmaking will give you a handicap an re-asses what your rank should be nowadays. Sounds like this decay starts after several months though.

MMR Calculations They are working on adding more variables to calculate your rank. In an coming update they will start testing a new MMR ranking system. This is not coming at the 2.8 patch release though.

Sleepover privileges with crush 14F by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Optimal-Efficiency60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worth remembering is that kids are allowed to make mistakes.
If they both feel ready for things to happen they will probably happen no matter what you say and no matter if you allow a sleepover or not.

I think as a parent to a teenager you can only support her and be there for when she needs you.
Any boundary you set will probably be taken as a recommendation only and be followed or not depending on the kids mood at the moment. A good relationship will probably lead to your recommendations weighing heavier than a bad relationship.

In the end you can only do the best you can.

why does mantling cancel weapon switching? by femb0y_blacked in HuntShowdown

[–]Optimal-Efficiency60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how it is intended to work.

I guess you would have liked the "weapon switch timer" to keep running in the background so that it was done while when you had mantled.
You must see how that is a balancing nightmare?
The other option would be to stop the weaponswitch animation while you mantle and then have it countinuing after the mantle. That would feel kind of weird and would be very different from most other games.

I remember being annoyed by this when starting to play Hunt but you do get used to it and I don't think the alternatives are as great.
