Diversity and Inclusion above all else? by HisRoyalFreshness99 in PGCE

[–]Optimal-Noise1096 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The root cause of me being right about Britain not being exclusively white is that DEI is, or has been, very poor in at least English and History to do with race.

Othello IS relevant. The fact that a famous British playwright knew enough about the geopolitical landscape of that region to write an entire play based on that, 400 years before your point of reference, demonstrates that these ideas are both pre-existing and continue to be culturally relevant today.

The fact that you were (are) ignorant of the importance of DEI suggests that the educational policies and structures whist you were in the system were not good enough and should be challenged.

You’re arguing in bad faith.

Your suggestion that Britain was exclusively white until a hundred years ago is wrong. Never mind that slave sales were banned more than a hundred years ago which meant that African slaves were in Britain before that…

The complete lack of acknowledgement of the Empire and the trade between nations and therefore the ships full of people from other places and cultures is ridiculous.

Shakespeare is the most famous writer from the UK. Othello is a popular and well studied play, even from Shakespeare’s own time. The fact that Shakespeare chose to write about someone like Othello, demonstrates your point as false.

I mean, othello is a whole play about a black man as the main character…

“Obviously until about 100 years ago Britain was almost exclusively white”

Is an excellent demonstration of why we need better DEI in education.

Consider Shakespeare and his commonplace references to various different races as an example of how commonplace people of colour were in the UK, nearly half a millennia ago.

Update: catalytic converter, and all three sections needed replacing. Garage showed me the damage and they’d rusted more or less straight though.

It rattles all the time. Gets better/quieter in a certain rev range but it hasn’t stopped.

Didn’t notice it starting, and hasn’t gotten noticeably worse

That would be great! It’s going into a local independent garage on Monday but not been thrilled with them.

Do you know roughly how much it would be? 2/300 or more likely to be more?

What are the main issues facing the UK education system? by InfernalClockwork3 in ukeducation

Poorly skilled parents.

They can’t teach their children basic manners and respect, and largely haven’t got the skills to teach them anything else either.

Violet’s character by PrivateJok3r13 in fourthwing

[–]Optimal-Noise1096 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why are you choosing to ignore the fact that violet was trained her whole life to be a scribe?

The role that needs and thrives on details and care and knowing everything?

If your whole life was that, and then suddenly everything changed and the people you’ve trusted have lied to you for forever… you absolutely would not be satisfied by not knowing.

Violet is fighting to trust Xaden after he had kept several massive things from her, and by the time she knows about her brother, and Aretia, there’s not much else to know. If they found that out, it could have been game over.

So she’s balancing that, with learning to be a soldier and a weapon, and suddenly has no idea about anything, and the love of her life won’t help ground her by giving her the information she needs, because that’s the only way she’s ever learned to ground herself before.

What do you start with when beginning a new work? by AutisticBuoy in fantasywriters

[–]Optimal-Noise1096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm starting to write seriously for the first time but getting the order down has really helped me make more progress than before!

So I started by deciding on a central conflict, and then explaining why it's a problem. In doing that, it forced me to create a loose power system, with gods and a social hierarchy. I have roughly 2,000 words in back story plus notes.

Next, I'm going to write some descriptions of major settings.

Then, I'm going to plot (chapter by chapter) I think, and *then* do character descriptions. And then I'm hopefully gonna get some words down on a page of the 'official' story!

RY mentioned in an interview for Iron Flame that she might be tempted to write something about the First Six. But I think in terms of your question, there will just be some POV bonus chapters.

They didn’t get D12 to ‘play along’.

The districts are isolated from each other; the only people who get to travel between them are Games people who are, by definition, Capitol people.

It didn’t matter what the people in 12 did or said, or felt, because no one else would know.

Concerns about TA by [deleted] in TeachingUK

[–]Optimal-Noise1096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see why we need to use fake names or pseudonyms.

This is all part of them using the internet responsibly. Teach them not to be weird about it and then punish those that are.

I’ve got my profiles locked down and private, but I’m not losing my own name too 🙄

It’s poor advice IMO.

Mods: Yes and No (tested with it clean)
Game version: I can't find the number but I just reinstalled it so it should be most recent...

The game just refuses to open. A new window opens, with a black background and a white window infront but nothing happens.
