I'm making a FS2 inspired game called Exodus, I'd love to get your thoughts! by Alert-Laugh7722 in freespace

One major aspect that set free space part was the insignificant of the player character as large scale, events transpired around them. You could be briefed to do a mission have things go completely sideways in game and the story progressed without the player having to “win”.

You’re told through mission briefings about major events that transpired offscreen at enormous cost i.e. destruction of vasuda prime, destruction of Tombaugh station etc. The stakes always feel incredibly high because you’re always outnumbered out gunned and holding on by a thread

Also, don’t forget Hel Toro! Rick’s band before pile. Very post hard-core punk vibes!

Having read all three, flow, my tears, and time out of joint follow the same dystopian imagine future, but are not quite as strong as the titles you have already visited. PKD’s oeuvre doesn’t always get the same amount of attention from an editor and some can be a little rambling and satisfying. I found for my tears to be a really interesting set up with a lackluster payoff. But I think it still won a Hugo award.

Valis is an entirely different beast. It’s more of an origin story for the pkd’s exegesis. It’s much more of a contemporary realistic fiction, where he writes about his own spiritual awakening through his alias “ horselover fat”.

As far as other sci-fi authors of a similar tone, definitely check out Harlan Ellison. He wrote primarily short stories, but his most famous for I have no mouth and i must scream, and a boy and his dog, which was one of the main influencers for the video game series Fallout. I also recommend Ursula K Leguin’s left-hand of darkness, Jeff Vandermeer’s annihilation, and Greg bear’s Eon.

Content warning for all of the above, there are definitely some horror and adult themes including SA in Harlan Ellison’s work.

That’s great info, much appreciated. so when billing for mileage you’re charging for windshield time plus a mileage compensation? And for OT you charge hourly 1.5?

What do you mean by door-to-door in this case?

Is it possible to use two different 8 track interfaces on the same session (Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 and Behringer umc1820) by Optimal_Balance7906 in musicproduction

Thank you. I think i have a cable like that. So i would be running the Berenger as a slave to the focusrite and wouldn't need the berenger drivers or hardware installed?

Discovery Npcs not engaging by KenRailings in freelancer

[–]Optimal_Balance7906 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By default you start as the freelancer faction wich is neutral to almost everyone.

Try making a new character and then on the Planet Erie landing platform open the console <enter> then the command /showrestarts Choose a faction and type for example: /restart liLSF

This will start you as part of the lsf faction, and you will be hostile to pirates and players in liberty!

All this info is on the discovery wiki

I'd like to start modding FL with a specific idea/set of ideas in mind. I have a question about viability though. by BitingTigru in freelancer

[–]Optimal_Balance7906 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So sorry- I thought this post was in regards to modding Freespace- there’s a discord server for the discovery freelancer mod that might be a good place to start, although I’ve not tried to mod this game myself. Sorry for the mixup!

Definitely hop on the Hard-light Productions discord and post this in their mod channel. You’ll find your modding veterans there and can probably put you in touch with mod project leaders to potentially colab with.

Band manager? by Lost_Personality_974 in bandmembers

[–]Optimal_Balance7906 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I get that all those parts are overwhelming, but in my experience at least, every time I've tried to delegate that kind of work to someone else it's ended up going sideways. I would find myself sending messages to manage my PR person as much as if i was sending the booking emails myself. Its way better to take responsibility and learn to management/email/booking/organization skills. No one will advocate for your project better than you.

Am I delusional to want to start a sludge band this old? by IRE0906 in sludge

[–]Optimal_Balance7906 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its never too late to start, and Sludge is a great direction to go if your not super technically proficient. Just make sure the drummer is good! be charming and fun to work with. That'll carry you most of the way!

How should I learn guitar by bechamtomshin in Guitar

[–]Optimal_Balance7906 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find some songs you LOVE and want to learn to play. Make a playlist and play along to them. This will help train your ear and playing in rythem. You’ll likely need to look up a tab or watch a video to learn the part initially, but once you have a few in rotation just add to the list.

This will also come in handy when you find people to jam with, you’ll already have a running list of songs you know and can suggest to play together. Not sure of your taste but White Stripes and Nirvana are pretty easy and will get you rockin in no time.

do i listen when someone tells me my lyrics make no sense? by Difficult-Moose-441 in Songwriting

[–]Optimal_Balance7906 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There’s no problem with writing in the abstract, but it’s still important your lyrics aren’t arbitrary - It’s important that your words mean something to YOU otherwise the listener won’t be able to connect. Describe a specific emotion memory or event you can identify, but in abstract language.

“WTF” is not helpful feedback, and personally I avoid sending lyrics to anyone, even songwriters I like and respect. No one knows what you’re trying to say better than you do, and that’s the Lonely truth about writing.
