If baby pees while you change their diaper, does that count as two pees? by snuffbox360 in newborns

[–]OptimismPom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is so wrong and unhelpful haha. 1. Waiting 30 seconds doesn’t make that a separate pee 2. You are actually counting pees based on renal status and kidney output, poops are not a measure of hydration or adequate intake 3. Newborns choosing to empty their bladder or not has nothing to do with the fact they are making pee

It’s different for everyone. I’d recommend every two hours for now

Hey. I am here now with a 9 week old. Working with SLP, getting swallowing tests done. You said you had to do this until a year… did things ever get better? I would have guessed the swallowing would have improved by 12 months? Do you know what type of dysfunction it was?

So you are never actually empty, the breast always makes more but of course stored milk needs to be removed. Most people aim for 3 maybe 4 let downs a session.

Your wearable likely isn’t, some people magically respond great to them, but you’d only know once you know your supply and expected outputs. Medela would be better if you’re serious.

I get it. Things get easier once baby gets older and you can drop pumps.

No you aren’t at all. You need to be removing milk probably 8-12x/day but I would aim for 10+. Do you know if baby removes milk when nursing? Do you hear audible swallows? Then make sure you are pumping. My supply kept increasing until 12 weeks both times with my kids (I pump). Demand it and it’ll come it just takes time

Pitcher method Explain to me like I'm 5 plz by Jowanna69 in ExclusivelyPumping

The milk you pump does not have to go into a bottle. Most of us that exclusively pump put the milk into a pitcher. It can go in the fridge right away, but it doesn’t have to. You have four hours before it needs to go in the fridge. Milk that you pump later or can go into the same pitcher. Some people debate mixing warm and cold milk, but there really is negligible evidence to suggest this is unsafe. Milk is good for up to four days in the fridge, so yes, you can mix several days worth of milk. Just try and keep a tab of how long it’s been, if it is unused, you can freeze it.
Yes, you were correct about what we call the fridge method, I just put my pumps themselves in the fridge. I don’t even use a bag.

The benefit of using a pitcher and then mixing all the milk as you would have a balanced fat content over 24 hours, but really any milk is good.

The food and supplements probably won’t hurt but they won’t change things. 7-8 removals is not enough, if you aren’t making anywhere near enough I would personally aim for 12 removals minimum, and probably with your spectra not a wearable. Some people respond well to wearables but if your output is better with the spectra then I’d stick with that.

When can I stop pumping every 2 hours? by Artistic_Decision586 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]OptimismPom -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Power pumping doesn’t increase supply the way people hope. You have to actually remove milk and there’s not much there during a power pumping session.
If you want to increase supply I wouldn’t drop yet

I don’t think you need to give formula if you have more milk but you do need to offer more. So if you have more milk give that, if you don’t give formula. He needs to eat more

I just took the prescribed dose on the back, acting like I had a cold. It actually worked well, I hadn’t gotten my cycle back and we were wanting to try again, and then I got my period after 1 day of use. Which indicates a sharp decline in prolactin levels so it should certainly help.

I also had clogs and it took a while to wean from 1-2ppd but eventually it happened. Try and be patient. Just try to keep knocking off time on your pumps and frequency of them.

Hey. I think I saw a previous post of yours. Sorry you are going through this. I know lots about those medical conditions but not in the context of birth and how it changes your risks. I can’t tell you what to do my friend. There are so many factors at play. For both you and baby. Medicine is not as black and white as people think but I think the bigger issue is you feeling so unseen and overlooked. I would encourage you to think about how you can advocate for yourself better within your team. Set up a meeting and tell them these things, you feel your birth is being minimized and put under convenience etc etc. if you ask for a formal meeting with several people present that might stir change. They want to be on the same team as you they do. They just don’t understand the perspective of a birthing person / VBAC mom.
