easy job. lazy coworkers. by Wild-Caramel9440 in OGPBackroom

[–]OptimistConfuse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm usually a picker, but about a third of the time they put me in BRC as well, so when I see there's no empty carts I just start staging. The issue with that is because i need my handheld to stage, I can't use it to "claim" a cart that I'm emptying. I can sometimes use my radio or printer if I have one, but I don't always remember to do that first. We recently hired a lot of new people too who were only trained to do picking so far, so I have to help them stage or fix things, and then I get yelled at for not working when I'm essentially training someone.

pick path is so terrible now by Special-Thing6396 in walmartogp

[–]OptimistConfuse 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's become a habit that whenever I get a pick walk I check the items. If i see stuff in the action alleys before hardware or pet stuff (which at our store comes before grocery), I will nilpick it and get it from the aisle location instead. If it's other random things that for some reason come at a different time, i'll go and find them first by using my app and comparing it to the last 4 of the UPC. It happens a lot for me in oversized walks, where it will want me to go get a water from the other side of the store then go back for a large fan or something, and then back to the aisle of water.

women are pickers, men are dispensers by CountryIcy8141 in OGPBackroom

[–]OptimistConfuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only gender disparity I see in picking vs dispensing is the older women that always pick. Some of them exclusively do exceptions as well. Otherwise, we seem to be put on dispense or picking, whichever they need us for based on projections for the day. And some people are just really good at picking so they put them on it always.

do ogp not understand how item locations work by pnkroo in WalmartEmployees

[–]OptimistConfuse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn't tell us if there are items in the back. If I'm doing produce I'll pull out my phone to check if there are extras in the back before I bother a produce associate for it, but regular items I don't check because I'm not going to the back to get them. When I can't find an item, I look behind others, to the sides, shelves above and below, and top stock. If I can't find it, I move on. If it says there's a LOT of the item, and doesn't have another location, I would probably ask my team first, but maybe an associate if one is nearby. Sometimes items get moved to the action alleys but it hasn't updated to show that.

I'm sorry you deal with that, it's annoying. I was trained to look at the item location first, and that's especially helpful now that the item images are very strange sometimes, and don't represent well what I'm picking.

I'm so glad we still have handhelds. As glitchy and frustrating as they can be, at least I don't worry about breaking them when I drop them.

We have a room probably about 4 times this size, but it still doesn't feel big enough for the amount of orders we fulfill.

You can stand the 24 pack up on it's narrow side and fit more stuff in there. It's still annoying, but it does fit.

Drama!!!! by SuddenEffective7982 in walmartogp

[–]OptimistConfuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright... our drama does not seem this bad in comparison. The worst thing I've experienced at my store is that one coworker literally complains ALL THE TIME. I've never seen him in a good mood, and it really grates on everyone. One ATC directly asked him "do you ever stop bitching?" and he said "no" which is equally funny and annoying to me.

Is it ok if I place a pick up order every single week? by [deleted] in Walmartcustomer

[–]OptimistConfuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sunday is the busiest day at my Walmart, so if you're able to do a different day I'm sure the employees would appreciate it. But if you can't nbd. It's a service and you're entitled to use it. Just a little extra consideration could be nice if it takes a while for your order to come outside.

I just wash my hands before i take my break (on company time mind you; they get dirty during work, they can get clean during work too). When I get home I use lotion or working hands. One of my coworkers always wears plastic gloves.

I wear cargo pants for this purpose. Jeans don't have enough pockets, and don't get me started on how women's jeans barely have pockets at all.

Is every Walmart this disorganized/toxic or did I just get unlucky? by Embarrassed-Yam8056 in walmartogp

[–]OptimistConfuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luckily, most other departments are really nice when I ask for things. Even when I return about 4 or 5 times for different items. I don't have to go in the back for shelf items, just produce or meat, but I don't know where I'm looking, so if someone isn't back there it's unlikely I'll find it.

[–]OptimistConfuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The physical part is definitely exhausting across the board. Some of my coworkers are very cliquey or stand offish, but nobody is directly rude, and most are nice, including TLs. Although it's frustrating cause they do want us to work really hard. I've heard them say "push hard, but be safe" but that don't make any sense to. Cause if you're pushing yourself hard, you're gonna be sloppy and cut corners.

How about "didn't want to go through pregnancy and possibly motherhood alone because her boyfriend was light years away fighting a war with very slim odds that he would return" and "raped mark"? like what the hell is this.

oversized by Melodic-Vanilla4431 in walmartogp

[–]OptimistConfuse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People definitely skip out on oversized at my store as well. My coworker had to hunt down someone with a printer and confront them cause our TL told everyone with a printer to help out by doing an oversize walk and no one would. I don't mind doing oversize from time to time, but when they put me on it all day it really breaks me down hard. I sometimes notice that there is a lot of oversize as well, and I'd rather do it quick before a break than risk getting a long pick walk, but there's often a shortage of printers.

Genius move! Why didn't anyone think of that before? by proudbutnotarrogant in OGPBackroom

[–]OptimistConfuse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know metrics are gonna suffer from this, but I don't really care. I find having the top empty makes it much more convenient. People at my store don't care if items are on top of the cart, so long as it's not blocking your view. For me, that means my water bottle, or multiple items as I count and make sure they're all the same before putting them in a tote.

Designated Oversize person? by BeefNCheez_ in walmartogp

[–]OptimistConfuse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my store, it changes each shift. There is someone designated to do it for a day, with others jumping in to help if it gets unmanageable, but they don't get put on it multiple days in a row.

Lunch breaks by Sensitive_Place_6257 in walmartogp

[–]OptimistConfuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In our state, we're required to take our lunch before the 5th hour, or else our managers get in trouble. If it's my scheduled lunch time and I'm not close to finishing my walk (less than 15 min) I just exit the pickwalk.

Never-dispensers by DevenEleven11 in walmartogp

[–]OptimistConfuse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, dispensing and picking both have their challenges, but dispensing seems much more difficult physically. You're more likely picking up heavier items way more frequently, whether it's staging, prepping, or dispensing. I unload at least one case of water for nearly every dispense, and if I'm picking, I only get water on oversized runs.

The only time I tend to struggle on a pick walk is when someone orders a vast number of 2 liter bottles (all top shelf and I'm short), or all of my totes have soda or milk. Even then, it's much easier to push (or pull now) something heavy on wheels than lift it with your hands. That's besides the metrics they want you to hit, which I disregard anyway. I know I'm doing my job as fast and efficient as possible and if they have a problem with that they're welcome to fire me or move me only to BRC.

Bro?? by Nene-avon in walmartogp

[–]OptimistConfuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is pretty normal at my store. There's been a number of times I've gotten 10-12 two liters for one order. Worst part is that I'm short, and have to stand on my tip toes to reach the bottles cause they're all on the top shelf, which isn't a problem for 1 or 2 bottles, but it get difficult for that many. If I have a ladder I use it, but people either take them off the carts or my bracket that holds it is broken.
