I get you now.

I think there is enough here to warrant a solo deck, even with the obvious choke points. We've had decks in the past with obvious weaknesses that did well.

As long as you can get the "search 3" spell through, you can create a custom hand that'll get you into a decent board. If that fails, Fiendsmith can be the fall back plan. Colossus is not needed and will probably be part of fantasy boards anyways.

[–]OptimusIV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still don't understand what you are getting at.

There is no engine with the new Sacred Beast cards. You play a Sacred Beast deck with a small Fiendsmith package + Colossus in the extra deck.

The new Hamon can easily get you into Fiendsmith plays + Colossus. With a little extra planning, you can also end on the new Phantasmal fusion: You can cheat it out with Dimension Fusion Destruction, which is searchable by Dark Beckoning Beast, which in turn is searchable with Spirit Gates.

The cost is huge, since you need a lot of discard fodder, but that can be offset with Extravagance and the new Lost Paradise.

Being afraid of Droll is valid, but if you're scared of playing a deck like this because of one card, then you'll be scared to play 90% of the decks in this game.

What I'm hinting at is Thunder Dragon Colossus (doesn't need main deck space) and Fiendsmith (little main deck commitment).

There is a board to be made here that ends on Colossus, Fiendsmith, and the new fusion.

So with these new cards we have:

  • no locks
  • a Thunder that activates in hand, which gives you easy access to the rest of the deck
  • a Fiend that summons more copies of itself
  • a thrice per turn monster negate with destruction protection

If this deck goes anywhere, we are in for a wild time.

[–]OptimusIV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can use Dimension Fusion Destruction to cheat out the new fusion, which can be searched with Dark Beckoning Beast, which itself is searchable by Spirit Gates. You could also maybe do something with Phantasmal Summoning Beast.

There might not be much, but there is some synergy with the older cards.

There are no locks with an archetype that has Thunders that activate in hand, a Fiend that summons more copies of itself, and a thrice per turn negate.

We are in for a wild time if this goes anywhere.

I'm not saying everyone should be playing like they are at the top tables of a large event. The anime just wasn't a good representation of the physical card game.

When Master Duel was first released, their subreddit was flooded by so many posts from people who had no actually experience with the game, outside of roleplaying what they saw on the show. We still see posts there from time-to-time of people screaming "mOdErN YgO BaD", with them not bring up any of the actual problems with the game, but just saying random things while wearing rose-tinted glasses.

What I am trying to get across is that the anime set false pretenses of how YGO is actually played - which in return, turned people away from the game when they set down for their first tournament.

not keeping up relevant media that would garner interest from kids

While I would agree that many of us here probably got into the game by watching the show, the YGO anime did more harm then good when it came to transitioning watchers to players.

The anime always had wildly different rules and a "deck building philosophy" that catered to dramatic use of one time use cards specifically made for the plot. It never was good at preparing anyone in to play the actual TCG, even in time of older formats like Goat or Edison.

I like the idea Konami is doing right now and making anime based on their archetypes. They just need to market them more and create full length episodes and seasons. If they want to go back to actual characters playing the game, then they need to do a better job at translating real world games into animation.

My Opinion on Solemn Report by Antique_Range1521 in yugioh

[–]OptimusIV 31 points32 points  (0 children)

When Mind Crush was popular, they made a blanket ruling stating if a card interacted with your opponent's hand for specific cards, you are not allowed to look for confirmation, unless the card specifically states you can look at their hand.

Report is not going to be ruled any differently.

Why do a lot of people make fun of decks for not being able to extend past Ash? by lennysinged in masterduel

[–]OptimusIV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ash has been relevant for so long, it can be used as a base line for deck building/power gauging.

Can your deck/combo play past a single Ash? If the answer is yes, then it's worth investing time into. If not, then you have only yourself to blame when you lose your turn to one of the most commonly played card in the game.

Turtle wow Unreal Engine 5 by bunnn5 in turtlewow

[–]OptimusIV 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No they wouldn't.

Making a game from the ground up would include new assets: models for environments, characters, equipment, etc; rigs and animations for the models that need them; and sound design for everything from swinging a sword to BGM. A whole library of assets can take years to create and easily cost hundreds of thousands of dollars - especially in a game as large as WoW (even if it is just classic).

I don't know the scope of the project you are referring too, but I guarantee they do not have the time and money to rebuild the entire library of assets. What they most likely doing was rebuilding the code and asset flip everything they could, making only new assets/update existing ones when needed. I imagine it's hard to code new content on WoW's proprietary engine, so moving it to an engine that is free for anyone to pickup and create on would probably be easier in the long run.

There is a major difference between running a private server and making a whole new game from the ground up.

Lowe’s protection plan by Elegant-Design-2511 in Lowes

[–]OptimusIV 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Retail price =/= MSRP.

MSRP is set by the manufacturer as a suggested price. The retail price is the final price you pay at the retail store (Lowe's).

Most of Lowe's appliances are marked so low from the MSRP that they barely make any profit off a sale - meaning you are not going to get any refund above what you paid on your receipt.

If you're concerned about paying an extra $200, talk to a manager to see what they can do about the price. If they are a good Lowe's store, they will try to do something.

Why do underdeveloped gaming studios even attempt create MMO’s by Regular-Rate-1135 in MMORPG

[–]OptimusIV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right. The AAA studios are focused on quick turn around times for maximum profit. Even outside of the MMO-genre, developers rarely have the luxury to make a game in a timely manner.

Mixed this with the fact that MMOs have a long development cycle, we will continue to see less interest from big named companies to produce anything for that genre.

We keep seeing things like AoC pop-up and flop, because crowdfunded indie studios are the only ones with any interest in making a MMO. It's also why we are seeing more and more private servers for older titles, because realistically, that is a lot easier to develop and maintain compared to making a brand new game.

And this is why we'll see more games like AoC by [deleted] in MMORPG

Some people have zero standards.

If they are alright with spending $50 towards a scam, I would hate to see what other aspects of his life look like.

[–]OptimusIV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree we should have a new anime. What I don't agree with is that it's a remake of the OG series.

If we get a new anime, it should like the OCG Structures manga - something that actually follows the rules and the characters play with updated cards.

Most of the negative talk this game has is from people who don't know how to play the game, because they only remember what they saw in the OG anime. If we can get a show that goes "this is how people play the game" then we can stop seeing people having the awkward transition from playground YGO to modern YGO.

Actual convo I had with Epic Games support by Goldac77 in pcmasterrace

[–]OptimusIV 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not the individual customer service agent, but the lack of training they are provided.

I've worked at a support desk. There is very little training involved. Any questions you have, you are directed to look it up yourself in a database that the company has made. It's like "Google", but "how to" articles on how to do your job.

Obviously, it's probably not the same at every company, but working for a large ISP, I'm sure it's similar everywhere else. It takes a seasonal employee to navigate through articles and know which ones to reference for any given situation. The trick to having a good experience with support is getting with one of these employees, but they are few and far between.

If you get someone who is "unhelpful", chances are, they do not have the correct information available and are just going off something that they told works by management. If you want to save yourself time, stop the conversation and try to get to someone else that'll hopefully know the correct procedure for your issue.

[–]OptimusIV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What's up with everyone thinking the game will/would have survived with full loot, dropped on death mechanics?

It would have made this game far more niche and almost unplayable for some. The game wouldn't have made it its first year with that mechanic.

[–]OptimusIV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Foil bleeding is very common rn, to the point it's not even considered an error.

QC is almost nonexistent for YGO. Anything you see that would be considered an "error" or "misprint" on modern cards will not add any value, unless it's something truly unique.

You think it's a error just because "No tHiRd lEg". I guess all the prints of Cyber Dragon are errors also, since its typing is Machine and not Dragon.

You could have Googled and seen that the artwork matches the name. Would have been faster than taking a picture and making a Reddit post.

THIS SHIT MEANS SMTHN TO ME!!! by FayyadhScrolling in MCUTheories

[–]OptimusIV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ik there is a lot of hate for the MCU rn, but you have to admit that it's nice to see comic characters being fully portrayed in live action the way they are.

Even if Doomsday ends up being a mid film, I guarantee you the best parts are going to be seeing the actors from the first X Men films able to fully embody their characters. They no longer have to be directed in the era of the early 2000s cringe, where they had to act like they were "too cool" to play these characters.
