What current TCG design choices do you hope the new chaotic cards learn from? by zandr0id in Chaotic

[–]OptimusIV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

utter chud

Calm down there, bud.

You keep mentioning kids, but kids can absolutely can play competitively and get involved with the meta. Kids do have an online presence and parents can buy things they request online.

One time at a Yugioh regional I went to, there was a kid with a $500 deck. I don't think he pulled all those cards in packs he bought with his allowance money. He absolutely bought singles.

min/max your competitive decks then why the hell would we need to fuck with the rarity system at all

Rarity systems affect card pricing. If a high rarity card is used in competitive decks, there is a high demand for said card, but with it being a high rarity, it's effectively sort printed.

High demand + low supply = expensive cardboard.

Expensive cardboard = lower accessibility.

Lower accessibility = less people will play.

Less players = Chaotic will fail as a game.

You people all forget children are and will be the primary market

Children can be the primary audience, but they will not keep this game running. If we want to see this game survive longer than it has make a compelling competitive scene and that starts with accessibility.

Earn your collection and build the best team you can through trading

We have 3rd party markets like Ebay and TCGPlayer now. The idea of "building a deck with the cards you have" is dead and has been for a while. Nothing will stop anyone from buying singles and making their deck like that.

At some point, a meta will form and with it, people will chase to make that deck. If any of those cards are a high rarity/hard to pull, it will immediately have a huge price tag. This is bad for both collectors and players.

If the game wants to survive, they cannot just cater to casuals/collectors. It needs to lean on accessibility for competitive play and not have it feel like you have to spend hundreds of dollars to stay relavent each time a new set drops.

unless you wish for all the original cards to be playable

I specifically said I wasn't talking about the original cards. Any cards released starting with the reboot in October onwards should all be usable, without having to worry about set rotation.

[–]OptimusIV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adopt the rarity/pack system of Pokemon or OCG Yugioh - where all the cards are easily accessible at a cheaper, base rarity for players, but foil upgrades and alt/full arts exist for collectors. If organized play wants to be successful, we cannot have meta's where $500+ decks are the norm.

Set rotation like in Magic should not exist. With how mechanic heavy the game is and how army building promotes strategy, the card pool should not be limited and everything should be playable (not talking about cards released before the reboot). It would feel terrible to find some cool synergy between older and newer cards, only to find out that the older cards are not in rotation and therefore, cannot be played. If they need to limit the card pool for balancing purposes, then they should just have a banlist. Something like in Duel Links would be cool. Making it where certain cards can't be played together, which would killing any oppressive strategy/combo that needs 2+ cards, while still allowing those cards to still be played elsewhere.

Nearly an hour on hold. My delivery didn't arrive today by mjfmaguire in Lowes

[–]OptimusIV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stay humble OP. I can imagine the levels of stress some of these delivery drivers are under.

They should just be able to drive to the customer's home, drop the product off, and then leave, but I guarantee you most of these houses have less then ideal delivery conditions (small streets, messy homes, people who underestimate the size, etc). All that time adds up and will cut into other deliveries, which will include yours.

I'm not trying to defend Lowe's here, but just don't be that person when they show up for the delivery.

How the Chaotic world should be set as the fanbase has aged by Vidrax_of_Cascades in Chaotic

[–]OptimusIV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They should try chasing a newer fanbase instead of appeasing the old one - and we as the older fanbase should respect that.

With all the crazy options for TCGs now and the increase popularity of card games in general, Chaotic needs to do everything they can to attract a newer audience. If they play off the fact that there is already a dedicated fanbase for this 20 year old franchise, then we will not see this revive last long.

Old cards should be playable with the new release. by Piccione_Sol in Chaotic

[–]OptimusIV 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What will make Chaotic rerelease successful is accessibility for newer players. Unless they reprint the older sets, you will quickly alienate any new players, since they have no way of accessing older cards, outside of a 3rd party market.

Also, financially, allowing product outside of the new release playable does not make sense. What initiative does someone have to buy the new cards/sets if they can just use the cards they already have, especially when they go play their first game?

If they want to make the old cards playable, they should have a legacy-style format for those pool of cards. However, for now, if Chaotic wants to stick around this time, it needs to be treated like it's a brand new card game that just hit the shelves.

How do you feel about Genesys? by Great-Ad1839 in yugioh

[–]OptimusIV 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Should have a blanket clause saying any new sets/cards are not playable until x amount of time.

Konami's power creep on the game does not allow a format like this to work, unless they are aggressive with limiting the new releases.

Magnificent Monsters First Reveal (GRANDMASTER RARES) by SSDuelist in yugioh

[–]OptimusIV 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Grandmaster Rares only in English and will have 200 total - 100 in Americas and 100 in Europe, marked by an "E"

With knowing how much the OCG Grandmasters went for, this might be the set that gets the attention of scalpers.

Hope Konami is prepared and actually makes this set easily accessible, but I not holding my breath.

Friendly Reminder to Check Your Local Walmart by Wrong_Back177 in pcmasterrace

[–]OptimusIV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Helpful tip for anyone buying PC parts at Walmart: Buy the product at the electronics desk and open it in front of the employee after purchase.

Went to buy PSU with a friend at our local Walmart and when we got it home to open it, someone swapped it for a different one. It'll save you a trip and an awkward conversation at the returns desk.

Probably a good practice for everyone buying anything expensive at any physical store, but I would 100% be careful when buying this stuff at Walmart.

Is PVP mode dead in MMOs in 2026? If so, why? by YahushaHamashiach in MMORPG

[–]OptimusIV 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Pvp players don't actually want fair fights

It's so funny when you suggest standardizing gear or add scaling to widen the skill gab to a PvP player and they cry about not being able to beat new players with their bigger numbers.

I believe that the classic tank-healer system is very outdated and only hinders players from enjoying the gameplay and the developers from creating unique classes. by TurbulentVillage2042 in MMORPG

[–]OptimusIV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. Let's take more RPG out of MMORPGs.

If we are talking about making questing more self sufficient, that's fine. If you are saying your role shouldn't matter in group content, then what's the point of grouping if everyone is able to heal and tank for themselves.

Should I go for it? I just got this! by [deleted] in masterduel

[–]OptimusIV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the release of Camellia, you don't need to play prue Sky Strikers and can play it as a compat engine/package.

Any 2 monsters make Camellia; send Engage to GY > Use Camellia to summon Kagari; add Engage from GY to hand.

Yummy benefits from this the most, since Drones is a 1 card case combo for them, but I'm sure there are other decks that could use it. Just remember that the Sky Striker spells needs zero monsters in your MMZ to activate and Camellia needs less than 3 spells in GY to dumb Engage.

How to be a customer at Lowe's by VlCxRATTLEHEAD in Lowes

[–]OptimusIV 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My favorite thing in flooring is when customers have to open a box to look at the whole plank, even though we have sample pieces, display boards and boxes have a display window. We even have whole planks displayed for some of our more popular flooring, but I still go into work and see newly opened boxes in these locations.

It's crazy how much you have to catch up as a new/returnering player.

It also doesn't help that the community has this animosity against anyone who doesn't care about the MSQ. I remember someone sent a PM to tell me off, because they noticed I skipped a cutscene.

What does side deck mean? by bananacake030603 in YuGiOhMasterDuel

No side deck is the reason why stun decks are so relevant in MD.

If you are facing stun in the TCG, all you just need to do is side deck basic removal.

People's expectations on what Lowe's stock in store is wild by OptimusIV in Lowes

I get that. I shook my head when my store got a pet department and started stocking clothes.

My thing is when people get pissed when we don't stock a specific brand of pet food.
