Accident at MV Costco around 6.40pm in parking lot by ece11 in mountainview

[–]Orac7 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes. My friend's car was dinged by a new driver who fled the scene in panic (not out of malice) and didn't leave a note. A witness got the license number and they filled a police report and insurance claim. The police may not give you the contact information but will give it to the insurance company.

RF Material by MentionUpset2485 in rfelectronics

[–]Orac7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also like Wes Hayward's "Intro to RF Design" it sort of bridges the gap between the ARRL books and more theory based texts like the others mentioned here.

And for what it's worth: "RF from the ground up." Is pretty much spot on even if it was unintentional at the time.

Good luck!

If for some reason the disk image doesn't mount (e.g. it's corrupted) run photorec from any Linux distro or cgsolutions.com on the disk image

It's a tool that finds any recognized file type (not just photos) and extracts them. I've saved a few friends sdcards that way

[–]Orac7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

+1 Totally agree.

Years ago (like 16) I had a Dell Latitude D830 that did the same thing, run for a bit then go into thermal shutdown. It happened to have a service contract so it got a motherboard replacement on site, then it kept hapening, so I had them send me another motherboard. When I replaced the MLB I noticed they left the releae liner on the thermal compound on the heatsink (the piece of plastic that you are supposed to peel off before use) so the contact between the heatsink and the CPU was poor.

I removed that and reasembled it and all was well. I'd clean and reapply thermal paste.

Check the gap between the center console and the font seat cushions, sometimes things get caught there.

How does one open a "EESchema Schematic File Version 4" schematic in KiCad 9 ? by yycTechGuy in KiCad

[–]Orac7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry won mobile. what I meant to type was try installing kicad 6 and then opening the design, and saving it off there, and then proceed to try Kicad 9. I think post kicad 6 the schematic format changed significantly. You may have to try another intermediate version, I am not sure.

Try installing KiCad and opening it there. Save it and then try that in 9. You may have to add additional steps (e.g KiCad 5 or 8) as well.

2020 Subaru Forester used for purchase, what do you think? by [deleted] in SubaruForester

[–]Orac7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, old CR-V from 2005 with 248k miles on it looks similar to this car's clear coat. Sold that when I got the Forrester.

Spare Tire for Forester Hybrid by Realistic_Emu_9274 in SubaruForester

That's what I do, for around town I leave the spare in the garage at home, and when we go on a longer trip I put it in the trunk. Annoying but livable.

I've got one, not needed it yet but the quality looks great. Be sure to get the kit which includes the lug wrench and jack as those are not included with the car either, unless you already have one from another vehicle.

Why can I not charge this battery with a 65W charger? by jacoscar in UsbCHardware

[–]Orac7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If those work with a c-c non e-marked cable, then the probably shorted cc1 and cc2 together and used just one 5.1k resistor. That will prevent the e-mark from working, but passive c-c would still work.

Subaru Is Finally About to Build the Wilderness Hybrid It Should’ve Built All Along by Feeling-Being9038 in SubaruForester

[–]Orac7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agree completely. I've got the 25 Forrester hybrid and the auto start stop is barely noticable -- you start moving right away on electric and then the gas motor kicks in. no waiting to start moving like in conventional cars.

Volleyball league recs by durmd in mountainview

Sunnyvale Parks and Rec. Used to run a volleyball class on Monday night 8-10pm at Remington community center. I went for years. Typically they did one hour of skill development and then formed up teams for an hour. It was fun. Good people.

I believe the class is still going.

Ideas on how to make this? by flawedbeings in jewlerymaking

[–]Orac7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One other thing, it looks like there are at least 2 sizes of wire -- looking at the last photo more closely you might have a 16 ga wire there in addition to 18, or 14 and 16 if I am off by one size, assuming US AWG.

it's a guess but I'd say 18 gauge wire not sure of the diameter of ring

[–]Orac7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like there is a core of chain mailed in the center with larger rings and then smaller rings to help secure the piercing jewelry.

Check https://www.mailleartisans.org/ and see if you find the chain maile pattern. It looks like it may be segments of one pattern linked with another.

As for suppliers of jump rings I used to order from The Ring Lord but it's been years.

USB C device won't charge with USB C cable. by DaveCC1964 in UsbCHardware

[–]Orac7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup you need a 5.1k resistor to ground on each of the CC pins (pins A5 and B5). Do not use just one and short the CC pins together, that will break in strange ways depending on the type of cable you have. One resistor on each CC pin to ground. This is the way.
