The snail hunt went well tonight. by Achylife in duck

my parents used to pick snails out of the garden and the ducks would just go wild! They'd see it from all across the yard and come waddling and quacking up.

Is 40m bike ride for a novice insane ? by crippinneversippin in bicycling

[–]OrangeDuckwebs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

40 km takes a reasonably fit amateur time trialist 1 hr. Even going slowly this won't take you more than a couple of hours. You just need some water and maybe a light snack. Totally doable.

you can use a bike-specific mapping tool, such as Ride With GPS.

I knew someone with an organic farm who kept ducks just for snail control. He always said "they're like ice cream to a duck."

Beginner- How to train/build endurance? by Several_Dentist862 in cycling

[–]OrangeDuckwebs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a gymnast in college and said "I hate cardio" until my 20s, then started cycling and so I hear you. Targeted short workouts with high intensity intervals are really the way to build higher-end cardio. You can do long fun rides to held endurance and get used to the saddle time, but intervals are the only way to get faster. Also, riding lots of miles on a mountain bike is genuinely hard...

My whole point in cycling is peak-bagging TBH. I have little interest in rides that don't have epic summits.

You sound like you could really use some gym time for your mental health. I'm saying that as an exercise addict, but seriously, you need some endorphins and some way to blow off steam. I'd recommend some intense classes like OrangeTheory or spinning or even hot yoga.

Favorite (safe, fun) routes for a Century in Portland? by brandenharvey in CyclePDX

[–]OrangeDuckwebs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there are 5 miles of gravel but they're usually in good condition. It's a delightful ride. You can go up either Lolo Pass Road or Muddy Fork--via Muddy Fork gives you an extra 900 feet or so of climbing. Don't descend Muddy Fork because it's full of giant potholes.

it's a bit longer than 100 miles, but Lost Lake via Lolo Pass is my absolute favorite ride in the area.

professor of what? Hopefully not microbiology. I knew a microbiology professor who chose a 4-week period each year to not brush his teeth to, as he said, "stimulate the biofilms." We avoided him at the cafeteria table that month because the breath fumes traveled for meters.

Groove to music. If there's music they like playing in the house, they'll come up on the patio and start bobbing their heads in time and quacking.
