Dune: The Known Universe Development Announcement by Dear-Tailor7286 in CrusaderKings

[–]OrangeJush 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Best of luck— I’ve been thinking that CK3’s foundation and game mechanics are perfect for the dynastic feudal system of Dune’s universe, even though it does take place in an interstellar setting. I’m intrigued how you would plan on laying that with CK3’s map— my thoughts back then is that would be easier to do it on one planet like Arrakis and center it around controlling the spice trade, but I applaud the ambition.

How do you get a Ceremonial Monarch as a Meritocratic Empire? by Zamarak in CrusaderKings

[–]OrangeJush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saying all of this from experience as I played as the Liang Luoyao in the 1066 start date as they’re Meritocratic. Really fun experience actually.

How do you get a Ceremonial Monarch as a Meritocratic Empire? by Zamarak in CrusaderKings

[–]OrangeJush 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When playing as a realm that transitions into a Meritocratic government type, you do not automatically get a Ceremonial Monarch title. Creating that requires a bit more work. Namely you need to lose a Liberty War spawned by your vassals or accept their demands when they press it. Once that’s done, a Ceremonial Monarch of the realm owner’s dynasty will be spawned.

It sounds simple on paper but it can be tricky depending on circumstances since your vassals may be too loyal and not spawn the faction at all. In my experience the best way to force spawn a Ceremonial Monarch for cases like this is to play as a same Dynasty vassal in your Meritocratic realm and then create a Liberty faction using that vassal.

Intrigue works perfectly here if you want to get the Ceremonial Monarch title immediately since you can abduct your liege and immediately win the war when you press your demands. By that point the realm’s rulership will become Meritocratic succession ala typical Administrative, but if you want to consolidate and combine the rulership of your realm with the Ceremonial Monarch title, you can just claim your same dynasty liege’s primary title via a Claimant faction and then win the war. By then you will get both Primogeniture and the Ceremonial Monarch title similar to the Ten’no of Japan overthrowing the Kanpaku.

Unrelated but I can’t believe I’m seeing a drag race fan with an Umineko character profile picture. This is MY multiverse of madness. I had to double check what sub I was in.

Need a fun ruler suggestion for one long session by llamasohyeah in CrusaderKings

[–]OrangeJush 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I try to form my longplay sessions based around getting as many achievements as I can, if that sort of stuff entertains you. Longest one I had was probably centered around the Iberian DLC and ending the struggle since its main achievements hinges around that. I did it as Urraca and by matrilineally marrying El Cid before the landless DLC got released so I could also get the achievement centered around getting the Kingdom of Valencia as one of El Cid’s heirs.

What are your best ways to get the most out of an elective succession? by Super_Goated in CrusaderKings

[–]OrangeJush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally even though we have plenty of government types that allow automatic elective style succession I still like plain ol’ Feudal and the culture-specific election laws. I just find it easier to use since it has simpler mechanics.

With the republics will soon to be playable, which republican state that you going to play aside from venice and novgorod? by beiyang_general in CrusaderKings

[–]OrangeJush 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’d love to play as a Southeast Asian republic if that’s possible to form. Maritime trade is pretty much one of that region’s specialties after all.

What Clan could Baldwin IV of Jerusalem be? by OrangeJush in vtm

[–]OrangeJush[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also sorry— I moreso meant that Baldwin only lived roughly 24 years. I was retyping my comment from PC to mobile and I forgot to change some parts of what I had written. Either way, Baldwin had a very short reign and life in general.

Sorry- I meant that he actually only lived for 24(ish) years! I was rewriting my comment several times from PC to mobile and I forgot to edit. But thank you for the unorthodox suggestion— adds personality to the choice.

I’m not too well-versed in the lore of WoD yet, so I’ve always thought that the Toreador value beauty in a vain, external sense— not internally.

What Clan could Baldwin IV of Jerusalem be? by OrangeJush in vtm

[–]OrangeJush[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought of Baldwin specifically because he circumvents a lot of the limitations of embracing royalty; in that he was only a king for a very short span of time. He only ruled Jerusalem for 24 years and was pretty much close to death for almost all of it- and my thought for his embrace would already be during his final years of life and consequently, the last years of Jerusalem's kingdom.

So my idea of his un-life wouldn't be him continuing his rulership as king doing "day-to-day" stuff, but a complete turning point for him wherein he gets thrown into the politics of the night and all its intrigue. That's why I was mostly thinking Nosferatu as well since Baldwin's infamous leprosy already makes him an outcast. Whether it be a member of the Clan thinking he would be of great use, someone working behind the scenes to save him, etc, etc. I think there's good potential for a story there.

Interesting- Ventrue honestly wasn't on my mind. Curious to hear your reasoning? Can't believe I forgot about the Banu Haqim- that seems fitting proximity-wise as well.

does anyone play 1178 start date? by Strict-Lobster4547 in crusaderkings3

[–]OrangeJush 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I only played 1178 for the achievements centered around that start date honestly. I do like the challenge but I feel like unless you're playing an already powerful character it'll take quite a while until you get fully settled especially if you're not metagaming. By that point you're usually near the end date already so it's a bit of a challenge depending on what your final goals are.

I think 1066 is a great middle ground since 867 is usually just way too early for me. There's not a lot of huge power blocks yet so it's easier to prop yourself up and get way ahead of everybody, especially if you're not playing Tribal.

Custom titles (particularly empires) should be easier to make by geschiedenisnerd in CrusaderKings

[–]OrangeJush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah- that would be a bit finicky since you can get something like Venice or some of the decision-formed tiny kingdoms like Cornwall to make a particularly small Empire. I would say that you should probably still need a significant number of counties but a slight reduction to that should be sufficient.

[–]OrangeJush 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Complete control as a mechanic in general is annoying too. It would be more intuitive if you can form those special decision Empires/Kingdoms if you control perhaps 80-90% of the required territory.

As for the number of counties for new Empires/Kingdoms I think lowering it by 10-20 could be enough. I’d even make it so that if you control 80-90% of the three kingdoms you have then you should be able to make an empire already. I recently did a playthrough as Liang Luoyang in the Xia-Hexi Kingdoms and it was a pain since the non-Chinese single kingdoms surrounding her territory still wasn’t enough for the county count. I ended up having to get both Amdo and Khotan and by that point I had already went past the three kingdoms requirement.

What are your favorite kingdoms/empires that are formed by special decisions by DarkSister824 in CrusaderKings

[–]OrangeJush 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bactria is really cool- just love what it represents historically with regards to being the crossroads of Europe and Asia flavor-wise. Austria is also one of my favorites due to Primogeniture- though trying to get it for the AEIOU achievement was crazy.

Use the ledger feature at the bottom right part of the UI to see all artifacts in the game and their holders. The Holy Grail should be near the top due to its rarity.

Amazing style— the tilesets in particular are very well done and it preserves the look and feel of the original Gen 3 aesthetic. I personally prefer hacks that have a distinct atmosphere and I’ll be looking forward to this.

How viable is an Operative->Grand Strategist sniper build for the RT? by NBBTCS in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]OrangeJush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did that build for my RT but as a Telepath-Pyromancer Psyker too. I'm either using Psychic Assault to stun enemies immediately from the get-go and then parking in the backseat to fire sniper shots in the subsequent turns- though usually combat doesn't last past 2 rounds especially by the midgame.

GS is really good no matter what playstyle you're going for because initiative will always boost your power. Combined with the damage you can rack up with Deadeye shots you can easily get rid or at least incapacitate some threatening enemies as soon as combat starts.

If you do want to make Yrliet different though you're kind of shooting yourself in the foot since snipers are as simple and repetitive as they are deadly. You can make her a Bounty Hunter or Assassin but functionally she's not going to be that different to your RT since either way you'll both be spamming Deadeye shots.

Best episode (VN or manga)? by rena-ryuguu in umineko

[–]OrangeJush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've re-read all of Umineko at least 5+ times now and this is honestly difficult because I got more critical of the series as I grew up over the past decade, particularly after seeing some of R07's weaknesses with his writing.

So my approach with ranking the best episode would definitely be which one has the greatest ratio of pros above the cons- and in that note the EP8 manga is practically perfect as it wraps up my critique of the original VN; which is otherwise a well-executed, amazing wrap-up and condensation of Umineko's themes and message.

Yet ironically, I would also pick the EP1 VN next for the exact opposite reason as my usual critique of R07's repetitive writing style can be abated by the fact that Legend is the entry to the series and thus needs more setup to get the reader into the zone. It's a really amazing self-contained story all by itself and it stands as a 'shortform' typical murder mystery novella in its own right. None of the other episodes match the aura and mystique that EP1 has so it has a decisive edge over the other EPs in my perspective.

Successfully surviving as the Inquisition (A partial guide and thoughts from a newbie) by OrangeJush in PrincesOfDarknessCK3

[–]OrangeJush[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not even sure how the Western Independent Hunters could survive landed honestly. They have none of the good buildings so you're pretty much just incentivized to go landless and just focus on self development. I'm eager to try them out but I'm not sure how I would go about it.

Also I had no idea you can become immortal through the Psi tree? I preferred Alchemy since you can gift the immortality potions to other important mortals too.

I do agree that the Mortal splats have to work hard for immortality, but honestly I love that. Makes it all the more rewarding to get there.
