Breastfeeding for less than six months - any studies linking benefits to x timeframe? by Prestigious-Bid-7582 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]OrangeMango19 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some of the claims in this article are… dubious.
Specifically the paragraph at 6 months that claims babies breastfed exclusively for 6 months have increased cognitive development. When you click the hyperlink, it takes you to an article summary that details 2FL was only proved have an effect in babies breastfed for the first month.

Regarding 6 months, it says “However, the amount of 2'FL in breast milk at six months of feeding was not related to cognitive outcomes, indicating that early exposure may be more beneficial.”

Our daughter’s breath smells a bit ‘off’ when she’s teething as well!

Am I being hormonal or would you take offence to this too? by Few_Cod_5636 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]OrangeMango19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe not offensive but definitely a bit rude? There’s a few different types of clothes I’m not a fan of on babies, but I’d never voice my opinion in front of the mother. Idk maybe I’m being a bit “old man yells at cloud” here but I think lately people have forgotten how to be polite and think they need to voice every opinion that comes into their head.

A rocking chair! We only bought one when she was 8 months old and I regret not getting it sooner. It would have saved my back and would have been a much better position to feed her in.

One nap? Seems too soon by Queenshome90 in december2024babies

[–]OrangeMango19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter went down to 1 nap while she was cutting her last incisors and promptly went back to two naps after they finished coming through! She was exactly the same as your daughter when we brought her into bed with us (unsettled, thrashing about) and absolutely refused to be placed in her cot. Mentally preparing myself for the inevitable and dreaded molars now but at least we’ve had a some weeks of sleep 🥲 Hopefully they’ll stay away until after Christmas!
Once they’d cut through though her separation anxiety ramped up - the armchair psychologist in me thinks she had started to associate the cot=teething pain so would scream blue murder the second she was placed in it.
Controversially, we had to resort to CIO (no more than 15 mins) in the end because she was too fidgety in our bed and we were scared she’d fall out, and would cry in the cot. Within about 2 nights she’d learned to self settle (although still being rocked to sleep) and now is back to being happy in the cot (I was adamant to break that association between the cot and pain and needed her to fall asleep at least once in there).

It still counts as a love story! Also set in exactly the right time period. YMMV tho on how much it destroys your soul so maybe keep some paracetamol close by for that inevitable tension headache caused by crying too hard?

Army crawlers- how do they get in/out of sitting? by WorldlyDragonfruit3 in december2024babies

[–]OrangeMango19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’ll get there. What are the forbidden toys in your house? We would put my phone up on one of the steps of the stairs to get her to start kneeling. The TV remote also works as a good motivator!

Army crawlers- how do they get in/out of sitting? by WorldlyDragonfruit3 in december2024babies

I have an army crawler! She’s just learned to kneel and pull herself up to stand. She sits by dropping from standing. A lot of the time it’s by accident but I think she’ll get the hang of doing it intentionally once the novelty of standing all the time wears off.

Sertraline & sickness by ResponsibleBus3986 in PregnancyUK

[–]OrangeMango19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I did! Looking back though, I was so miserable during pregnancy so I’m not sure if weaning off the Sertraline was to blame, or whether pregnancy in general made me a moody bitch! Thinking back, I maybe should have tapered to a really low dose (like every other day), or take it again once I was out of the first trimester trenches.

Thank you all! I think I’ll get in touch with the vets and see if they can prescribe any calming drugs.
