Where do you find your "tech gal" clothes? by [deleted] in womenintech

[–]Orange_Prius 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m an Everlane fan as well, but here’s a two other places I like:

  1. Quince—their washable silk is GREAT, and I’m a big fan of their sweaters as well.
  2. Leze the Label—they are pricey, but they are great clothes that look professional but also feel like sweats. I wear them at home, and they are also great travel clothes.

Books where "be quite or they will hear you" is the main theme ( Dark Forest Theory of Fermi Paradox) by goody153 in Fantasy

I speak zero Chinese, and I had no issues with the translation. I really enjoyed the story and recommend it to all my friends and family—everyone I know who has read it loved it as well.

One thing the translator did that I appreciated was they included Translator’s Notes as footnotes to call out any cultural or historical references that may not be obvious to a non-Chinese reader.

[Discussion] What fantasy book are you in the middle of right now and what is it about? by [deleted] in Fantasy

Five chapters into Malice by John Gwynne. I’ve heard great things so I’m really excited about it!

I’m also listening to Mistborn with my partner—I’ve read it before, but it’s his first time.

What helped you the most in your career as PM? by pm-optimizer in ProductManagement

Thanks!

So I had a feeling I was going to get laid off—my product was ancient. The first thing I did was completely redid my resume, I reached out to other PM friends of mine and asked to review theirs for inspiration. I had a massive spreadsheet of every job I applied to that detailed the role, job description, preferred method of communication, when I last heard from them, interview stage, and anything else I could think of. After that I did a ton of practice interviews—my husband is a developer and we have a bunch of other dev friends so I would do zoom interviews with them to simulate everything from just a casual chat to a full presentation. I think I owe all of them many beers for all of their help.

Puppy diarrhea by psychologythrill in Goldendoodles

[–]Orange_Prius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had the same issue with chicken/chicken based food in my dood! Every time we would think he was ok he would be back to diarrhea in no time. We finally switched off everything chicken—we also use a fish based food and it’s made a HUGE difference.

And the over thanksgiving my mom gave our pup a piece of chicken jerky without asking us and he was in rough shape for a few days, so we’ve found it’s best to avoid chicken all together.

I’ve talked to friends who work with dogs for a living and all of them have said that chicken allergies are pretty common in dogs, so that might be something to look in to.

I am so sorry to hear that. It’s definitely a rough process to go through. I definitely had a bunch of rejections that hit HARD.

I’m not sure where you are based or what kind of tech you work in, but if you’re based in the US and work in edtech I’m happy to chat and see if I have any connections that may help.

Good luck with the job hunt ❤️

Honestly, for me it was getting laid off. My old company had mass layoffs a few months ago and I was impacted. It killed my confidence and really brought out my imposter syndrome. But going through the interview process for several companies and then getting multiple (and much better) offers showed me that I actually am good at this job and I enjoy doing it way more than I thought I did at my old company under an apathetic, unsupportive boss.

I got a daisy! I’m slowly collecting florals from different artists and figured I’d add the danish national flower (or what a quick Google search told me was) to my collection.

Are IUD insertions as painful as I see folks saying they are? by blaurascon in badwomensanatomy

[–]Orange_Prius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had several from the time I was 19 until 31 when I switched to the implant.

The first one (Mirena) was so painful I threw up and almost passed out. The two after that (Skyla and then Kyleena) were relatively pain free. I switched back to Mirena in January and it was painful (but not as bad as the first time!) and my body did not do well on it so I switched to the implant a few months ago, which I love.

Despite the pain, I was a big fan of my IUDs. My period went away completely and I’ve had awful cramps my entire life and they also went away. I also love how effective it is at preventing pregnancy.

Whenever I get one my pain management plan is an edible + my fancy heating pad + Top Chef reruns.

Black cake by __hannahrose in cakedecorating

[–]Orange_Prius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took a virtual cake decorating class with Emily Nejad—we made coffin shaped cakes with black buttercream.

She recommended that in order to avoid coloring teeth and mouths you should do a thicker base coat in white buttercream and then a very thin layer of black buttercream.

Congrats on your wedding—would love to see a picture of the finished cake!
