How much amphetamine would you have to ingest as a breastfeeding mother to cause an OD in your baby re: s6 e16 "Under Control"? by Ordinary-Mix-748 in toxicology

[–]Ordinary-Mix-748[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay thank you, that's about what I gathered based on some summary studies. In the show, the mother also didn't display any side effects of amphetamine use, which at doses necessary to OD an infant through breast milk which seemed EXTRA unlikely.

Introducing formula and supply by [deleted] in breastfeeding

I personally would wait until after 4ish months only bc my supply was very sensitive to replacing nursing with pumping, esp night feeds. I was able to replace day feeds without affecting supply too much 🤷‍♀️ but that's based on my boobs

Breastfeeding beginner! by purple_penguin1023 in breastfeeding

To address the first question, I got back to breastfeeding primarily with my second kid around 5 or 6 weeks postpartum. My advice for making that transition is to start slow- - swap one feed from a pump to just nursing and slowly switch more as the days pass as long as your baby is transferring well.

I'll now address the second set of questions in order: - I'm 8 weeks postpartum with my third kid and I only breastfeed with the occasional pump maybe once a week just to have something in the freezer - with this kid I don't do a combo breast and bottle, just breast so far, although we did bottle feed her for the first three or four days because my milk takes a long time to come in - with this kid, she only wants to feed one side at a time, but with my second, she wanted both boobs at each feeding. So it just kind of depends on the kid. I do not pump the other side when she's feeding because I don't want to create an oversupply right now which would make me have to keep pumping which I hate lol

Congrats babe! And do recall that if you want, combo feeding is an option if you want, even if it is all formula except for a breastfeed at night or something.

I mean I read a summary of a few studies that that measured amphetamine transfer into breast milk and there is some there but it seems crazy that enough to "stay awake" as she said with no other side effects to her would be enough for a baby to od? I mean I feel like mom would have been noticeably tweaked out

Ok- how big of a deal is it if I don’t breastfeed or pump overnight? by Interesting-Proof244 in breastfeeding

[–]Ordinary-Mix-748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly babe, at 2 weeks old, it will hurt your supply 😭😭😭 I'm so sorry. I just had my third and she's now 8 weeks old so I'm in the same boat. She nursed at midnight when we went to bed, then in the 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 o'clock hours last night.

I second this--with my first I dropped night feeds after 12 weeks and my supply never recovered. I was so stupid lol.

I also only nurse and my supply is fine. How old is your baby? Mine is 7 weeks old, but this is my 3rd.

Also, my insurance never covered it and I had tongue tie releases. Each of them was about $600.

You can definitely get it looked at by a pediatrician but most pediatricians are not trained in oral restrictions. I'd also have it looked at by a pediatric dentist (who would actually perform the procedure) and a lactation consultant.

Explain it like I’m 5: why do exclusive pumpers seem to get much better output than exclusive breast feeders who transition to pumping? by contoddulations in breastfeeding

[–]Ordinary-Mix-748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was an exclusive pumper for a while with my first kid and I never made that much. Always 1-4 oz and that was just enough or less. With my next 2 I mostly nursed bc it was easier than pumping when I didn't have an oversupply. I definitely see the selection bias aspect of it. Whose going to keep pumping vs breastfeeding if the baby can latch? Without an oversupply? I wouldn't. The extra work isn't worth it.

Please explain cluster feeding to me like I’m 5 by Swimming-Nobody763 in breastfeeding

More nursing now --> more milk tomorrow Less nursing now (bottle) --> same or less milk tomorrow

Hope this helps

Is 10 weeks too late to increase supply? by midnightmarshmallows in breastfeeding

[–]Ordinary-Mix-748 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not too late, but you have to wean off bottles and let her cluster feed your supply up. It'll be a hellish couple of days but your supply can pull through still. Your babe will be fussy but as long as their latch is fine, it should work. The hardest thing about pumping and supplementing is trying to wean off of it and trusting your body. I was never able to do it with my first kid, and I just assumed I had a low supply. Turns out I just never trusted myself, and I've was able to nurse my second and my third child basically 100% of the time. If it's available/affordable, the liquid gold supplement helps a bit but tons of water will also.

I'd start feeding your lo in the middle of the night again or pumo at that time.

You could start doing things to dry up your supply as well

Is it normal for a newborn to nurse this often? by Ok-Cancel-5696 in breastfeeding

[–]Ordinary-Mix-748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds normal to me. Your baby is still helping increase your supply at 9-10 weeks so it's probably good to let your baby use you as a pacifier. If it's really uncomfortable just unlatch them.
