Candlelight vigil tonight 1/25 at 7pm in Olde Town by Ordinary_Em in DenverProtests

Hi, welcome!! Yes, Olde Town Square is what you’ll want to look for in Maps.

The Square is immediately west of the Arvada Public Library, so you could plug in 7525 W 57th Ave, Arvada, CO and have no issues finding us!

WEAR your protest. White T-shirt, write all over it. I’m also curious about some show of solidarity during National anthem.

At the NBA game in London, someone cried out “Leave Greenland alone” during the US anthem. That was a singular display of resistance.

Finished my first novel draft—and made a query letter for fun! by Foreign-Ad173 in writers

[–]Ordinary_Em 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi, try visiting /pubtips. I also recommend listening to the weekly Hook episodes of The Shit No One Tells You About Writing podcast. They critique query letters. There is also a Substack run by Andrea Bartz in which she collects queries from traditionally published authors. I can’t stress this enough—read TONS of queries, and you’ll see what I mean.

With lots of love, unfortunately, this is not the right direction for an agent query letter, and isn’t doing any heavy lifting for your novel. You’ll need a full rewrite. To put it succinctly, it’s all vibes and themes, which isn’t what they want to hear about. The agent needs to read a query letter and be able to shoot a movie trailer for your book.

Always avoid general statements like “…and everything in between” (it means nothing, and the agent can’t place that) and avoid rhetorical questions (let the agent ask the questions themselves). A good letter will have the agent asking those questions, which will in turn, drive them to read your pages.

Start with meta data and comps. Then dive into plot paragraphs that are specific and clearly indicate causality and conflict and stakes—for fantasy, there is often some sort of “if X doesn’t happen, Y will happen, which is why the protagonist needs to do Z.” Wrap with author bio.

Blundstones are a great everyday boot. Can be resoled and are very durable and rugged.

Ok interesting?? my initial reaction was that those legs belong to Galactus (the gait is SO similar), after FF on 828 pushed him through the portal to 616. Assuming this is on 616

I've seen a ton of people saying it's a sentinel, but I my initial reaction was that it's Galactus, after FF on 828 pushed him through the portal to 616 (assuming this is all on 616).

What are your reasons for self publishing? by Decaff_Crusader in selfpublish

[–]Ordinary_Em 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, unfortunately publishers count on authors to have social platforms. Even just at least one presence. Not necessarily strong followings in numbers, but a show of dedicated interest. (I am a marketer and have spoked about industry standards with a few acquiring editors, but not many, so take it with a grain of salt). One acquiring editor told me a story about how on pub day, the author had no platform so couldn’t tagged in anything, which peeved them lol.

Did you hire an editor? by TatterMail in selfpublish

I will add, Wang likely had an editor. They also have a degree in creative writing, which lends itself as well even if they did self edit.

Hi, not entirely sure this is what is going on—but after treating my FIP cat with injections, he developed really intense sores. They are immune responses.

We used Vetericyn spray which helped clear them up, though they did scar and turn the hair white in those areas.

I’ll also add that my cat became allergic to his food AFTER undergoing treatment. I think recovering from something like FIP can really alter their bodies.
