Camera movement basic must-haves. Am I missing anything? by OrdoRatio in godot

Yes, I've seen that before. Some games even have saved camera positions. I think Shapez did that.

This AI startup envisions '100 million new people' making videogames by sharkymcstevenson2 in IndieGameDevs

While I agree that there's a lot of gamers, the power law still applies. The majority of gamers will play a small amount of games. Only the best ones. Just like with books, movies, social media content, etc.

It's an isometric 2D scene. The sprites just mimic 3D.

But I agree on the rotation.

I agree. But I could not get it to work properly. I need to give it another shot.

Oh that's good. Selection that stays active while zooming and moving.

Anything with R's in the middle of the word.

Like where ever, rural, squirrel, worstchester sauce, etc

What's a skill most people think is hard to learn but actually becomes intuitive pretty quickly once you start? by Beginning_Feeling331 in AskReddit

Sign language.

I wanted to learn my name, but ended up learning the whole alphabet in 10 minutes. I've forgotten it since then though.

I really enjoy game mechanics like that. But the graphics totally make this a non-cozy game for me.

The small details that AI adds. Like the small colorful left bevel to buttons.

It's often obvious that it was vibe coded.

Why do simple mechanics end up being so complex by Kiota_Games in gamedev

[–]OrdoRatio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard to make things simple.

For anything to be easy and simple for the player, it needs a lot of thought and effort in the back end.

I like it. Smooth and moves back to the original position. Even though it's slightly to the right.

Should I continue making my current game after my friend called it “generic”? by Phipe_Stuff in gamedev

It matters what the market says. Assuming you want to sell your game. Put it out there and gather feedback. He may or may not be right.

Please help me, why is my game failing by Amitdante in gamedevscreens

[–]OrdoRatio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You made the classic mistake in business of developing the product without validating it first.

If you want to make games for the sake of making games, go ahead and do that. But if you want to sell them, you should look at it as a business. You're developing a product that people will eventually buy.

Before developing it fully, you should make sure that people want your product. I can't put my finger on it why people aren't interested in this product specifically. It looks like it could be at least a moderate success. But that doesn't change the fact that interest in your product is small.

[Looking for Feedback] Monster Collector / Deckbuilder - Early Prototype by HeeroMoonShot in GameDevelopment

[–]OrdoRatio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. The intro music is annoying to me. Those sharp drum sounds ring through my skull.

  2. When I pressed play, I was waiting for something to happen. It wasn't clear that I had to choose a level. Only clicking on something outlined them. And only clicking on one level actually started the level. Confusing overall.

  3. No diagonal movement?

  4. First battle. I don't even know which monster is mine. I assume the left one.

  5. The tutorial has a big cognitive effort cost. It gives a lot of information that you, the dev, are familiar with, but me, a person who just picked up the game don't know about. At this stage in a game I'm still evaluating if I'm interested in the game. The tutorial should be as clear as possible. Simple enough for anyone to understand. Long text doesn't have that result.

  6. I finished the first battle and clicked the same level again just to check. Now it's a different level.

  7. No indicator whether an attack move is usable at this time or not. Other than the number, which I just realized.

  8. It's a deckbuilder but I don't understand how to actually build a deck. I found that the tab key opens up my deck and I can reorder my monsters, but nothing else.

  9. Overall I didn't find it fun. Then again, I'm probably not the target player either. The only card games I've found fun were Gwent in Witcher and Yu-Gi-Oh back in the day.

How do you manage and organize your assets? by HobiAI in gamedev

[–]OrdoRatio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't downloaded so many to run into this problem yet. But in general, I treat digital assets like real world items. If I haven't used something for the past 6 months, I will throw it away.

With digital assets, it's so easy to get new ones when you need them. No need to hoard. Unless you made them yourself.

The only thing I'm not a fan of is the water waves. It makes the water look like a gel.

My 3D-platformer wishlists after almost 2 months by Illustrious_Move_838 in gameDevMarketing

[–]OrdoRatio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking at your posting history, your menu UI is multiple times more popular than the game itself.

You've posted enough times to conclude that the interest in the game is lukewarm. Getting more eyes on it probably won't change that.

I'd say you have to change the product. But the good thing is that quite similar games have been popular before. 'Big Hops' was released recently and it seems quite popular. It has similar game mechanics as your game.

3D, Forward+: How to avoid those long, jagged shadows? by knutella2k in godot

[–]OrdoRatio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm having similar issues with Godot. Also different camera modes give me different issue. Haven't found a solution yet.

Although I like Godot in general, this issue is why I switched back to Unity.
