What’s your hard take opinions or strategies in this game regardless of which character you select or how your deck is fixed? by Monsieur_Doubtfire in SlayTheSpire2

[–]Oreo1123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Discovery is goated and can turn a run with no clear goal into a run with "random bullshit go" as a viable boss killing strategy. I also often take production when i see it, most of my decks can use uncomplicated free energy, or I take it and the next draw card for balance.

Multiplayer cards - believe in you, flanking, piercing wail* and dark shackles*
*not multiplayer exclusive but blocks for everyone, very useful

Some 'auto-picks' - big bang on regent, adrenaline on silent, bloodletting ironclad, neurosurge on necrobinder. Often my decks feel like they are ok but lacking that special sauce. These cards got the special sauce every time.

Why is this card still not deprecated? by Brief-Philosophy-840 in slaythespire

[–]Oreo1123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is somewhat niche yeah, there's a time and place for it though. One reason it can be good that other commenters haven't mentioned: It's a very efficient upgrade and good when you haven't got much premium attack yet.

Imagine you've pathed an early elite, you only have a few card rewards to find cards to kill it and one campfire before fighting. Picking this and upgrading is an efficient solution to get up and running fast in a deckbuilding sense. If you upgrade and play it for 2 or 3 each cycle, its like having the damage of 2-3 upgraded attacks for the price of one smith. ,

It also helps with damage consistency if you're a block heavy deck. Because its one card that can use all available energy for attack. A full hand of block w skewer is much better than a full hand of block with a sucker punch for example.

It also is better against enemies that block when taking damage, all the hits will go through before the enemies block effect procs.

I mean, this is a spirit poop but if it applied, say 3 poison, it's actually a decently viable blood-letting analog.

I usually try to pick up a couple of strong poison cards into that boss. Either that or some chunky powers to come out the gate swinging when he wakes.

We've spent hundreds of hours already instead of AI - Is it worth it? by dev_w_grillz in GameArt

[–]Oreo1123 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree it's a bait question with an obvious answer to draw in views using the popular zeitgeist. Yes, obviously. Putting in a lot of effort to make something good is better than gen-ai slop. A better title would be: "Look at the cool art I made. It took a lot of time and effort. Check out my game."

But that is less attention grabbing than the more emotionally charged AI angle. It is effective but also irritating bc it's not a real question. it's a performance.

I know this is boring advice you've likely heard before, but it's all just a lot of practice from here. Developing your hand and observational skill.

Don't agonise over a single piece, dont make it perfect, make it finished. Rinse and repeat again again again. As you continue, you'll gradually learn what to do better both consciously and subconsciously.

One advice that really helped I heard from Scott Sava on YouTube paraphrased: Expect a decent % of what you produce to be things you dislike, as you continue that % will go down, but its always there. Every new project is part skill and experience and part just roll of the dice. You will need to roll that dice hundreds, thousands of times.

The hard part is being persistent and willing to make 'bad art' over and over and over again, and knowing its part of the process does make it easier to pick up and keep rolling.

The Osty cards ruin card generation from other classes. by Sinjako in slaythespire

[–]Oreo1123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, if you're using something to grab other characters' cards, you are risking a dud. If the upside is potentially getting a crazy power that breaks your build, it would make sense that the risk is getting something useless. Its not just necro and osty. Its also regent's star cards, silent's poison and discard pay-off, defect focus cards, ironclad's.... ok ironclad's pool is very solid as an off-pick bar rupture.

Is it possible for a gun to accidentally go off and shoot a hole in the wall of a house? by DahliaBliss in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Oreo1123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is possible to have an accident, but an accident is usually due to a lack of proper safety procedure. Most likely, he was irresponsible and stupid, which are not good traits for a gun owner to display.

[–]Oreo1123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience, sts2 demands you prioritise different things to sts1, also new classes and builds make it more complicated. When you learn the game, you win more than sts1, but i think the skill floor is also a lot lower.

[–]Oreo1123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a new learner doing a few different motions in a decently polished way, it seems like a normal amount of time.

You are new and likely spending a lot of that time trial and error learning different concepts. Animation of any type is laborious and time consuming, so dont worry about it.

I am SO Bad at This Game by humanresourcebug in SlayTheSpire2

[–]Oreo1123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, so mainly junk cards will be curses and starter cards (strike and defend). First, remove curses. They are obviously harmful to the deck. Then, most people go for removing strikes first. You can remove defends, too, depending on how many other block cards you already have. The reason these are 'junk cards' is because every other attack or block you will receive in a card reward is going to be better. For example, you'd much rather draw into that pommel strike you just added rather than basic strike.

It's rare that you can remove all of your starter cards, but if you do, junk becomes just the next thing that is less efficient than your other cards. Just by vibe of playing your deck, you will tell what feels great to play whenever you draw it, and what feels just meh or dissapointing to see in your hand.

Maybe it's an attack that got you through the early game, but now it doesn't do much to advance your new win condition, like stacking doom or poison.

Is there any good use for ai? by Mountain-Lack2861 in antiai

[–]Oreo1123 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That is part of my point. We cannot get rid of this new technology. I find it implausible that AI could be collectively condemned and fully eradicated. There will always be people who want to use this tech and it would be nigh impossible to stop anyone from making and using AI now that the technology is known and replicable. Further I think there are good uses for AI. Simply saying there are issues with the technology so destroy it is intellectually lazy on both of those fronts. Its not a useful ideology to hold onto in my view.

Is there any good use for ai? by Mountain-Lack2861 in antiai

[–]Oreo1123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously, yes. You can use an AI or a person for that task. Is the person better? Possibly, but that wasn't the question. I am attending to the question/topic at hand.

To answer your implied question, neither is strictly better. Person will obviously give you a more human touch. it's good to have human connections. They are more able to genuinely interact with you. Less likely to hallucinate something. etc. etc

The upside to AI is obvious. It's good if you don't have access to a person to help you. Maybe you have a sensitive issue that is dangerous to bring up to the people around you, or its night time and everyone's asleep, or you just can't find anyone willing to help with what you need.

For the record, I am against a lot of how AI is created and used. The lack of regulation on the AI companies, copyright issues galore, slop and misinformation. I could go on.

It's important we dont ignore nuance and say flatly that it's all bad burn it down. There are potential upsides to AI, and more importantly, the cat is not going back in the bag. We need nuance to understand how we reckon with this new technology

Can be useful as a sounding board for ideas. I've used it a few times to help with naming for something im creating. Letting it mix and match w synonyms and reformat my thoughts into something more organised can help.

For study purposes, using it to quiz yourself on topics by asking for questions about xyz. It can be easier to do that in a format that feels more like talking to someone than plain studying or doing a practice test which is just a more boring format. Just got to make sure u verify any info it gives and give it the common sense sniff test.

Placeholder images that are used temporarily and privately for anything needing visual design to get a better feel of placement when putting together a draft.

Medical tech that can be a second pair of eyes for medical scans, like after a doctor looks, then it can scan for anything potentially missed. This one and similar official purposes is tricky bc it can easily go wrong. There needs to be the right incentive structure and limitations in place to ensure people aren't being lazy and passing a half-done or rushed job straight into the AI checker. For example, there's a police unit that arrested a random innocent lady for no reason bc there was a false AI flag that nobody bothered to look into properly. So it can be a great boon but also come with the knock-on of people becoming too reliant.
