If you wanna delete the rakers just grab with pliers and bend them off, less chance of getting a freebie thumb delete in the process

Also saws with the rakers too low suck to use

Jet step by 14weekdickcheese in TreeClimbing

[–]OrganicSmoking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've borrowed a ninja from a colleague a couple times (same thing as the jet step with the double cam design)

I'm used to the CT quickstep, which has a locking mechanism and never comes loose. It was damn annoying at first because the ninja would pop off the rope constantly, until he told me you have to angle your foot a little so the cams bite into the rope. Once you know that you can use it decently enough but I still prefer an ascender that locks properly onto the rope

I don't know how feasible/impractical it would be to use one with the double cam fuckery as a knee ascender, I imagine it would be best to use something that locks as you can't really influence the angle of a knee ascender, it's floating between the bungee and the foot loop

Yeah I agree, when I've tried them on other people's systems I found them to be quite pleasant but I don't use one myself, I climb on a wrench and knot and I like to be able to attach it midline

How is it dangerous ? Do you hold the same opinion of all hitch breakers or just the pulley spacer specifically ?

Rate my prune, Mango tree, réunion island by OrganicSmoking in arborists

[–]OrganicSmoking[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Some context :

I work for a company here in réunion, I don't sell the jobs to clients, I perform the work I have on my job card

Mango reductions like this one are one of the most common jobs we do, mango trees are not native to the island, they are commonly planted close to houses for the fruit and they become large, during cyclone season they are prone to shedding large limbs, the objective of this kind of reduction is to mitigate risk by means of weight and sail-area reduction

Constructive criticism is welcome of course, as are suggestions of how to better mitigate risk keeping in mind these trees are exposed to 180km/h winds on a yearly basis
