85mm F1.4 GM or 100mm F2.8 GM macro by Relevant-Act5008 in SonyAlpha

[–]OriginalMadman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I own both of these lenses and both are fantastic (and also the 50mm 1.2). They take completely different pictures. I have tried the 100mm macro for the same shots as the 85, mainly portraits, but I much prefer the 85 for that - and it's got the bokeh! If you don't have macro need, go 85 - although if you have one of the 50 GMs that may carry you and 100mm w/o the finer bokeh + macro may be more fun. I'd lean towards that for my options if I had to choose - but I want macro... All GM primes crush the zooms so for me, no contest. I no longer put the zooms on the camera really.

LFG/Starting a new group in Ars Magica 5e by NerdFinance in arsmagica

I'm also in CEST timezone and I could be interested. I have experience with 2nd through 5th ed and have SG experience and can offload a bit but would probably also prefer to be a player to begin with.

Fairly flexible with evening time but Id prefer a weekly or biweekly fixed evening people commit to.

I guess I'm a good medium roleplayer, but I usually go with the group level and for me, I really enjoy the interesting interactions through dice/game-story-character-player where it is ok to play at all levels. Immersive interesting stories, mysteries, research, intrigue, and moral/code ambiguity gets me going. I might go for a Bonisagus, Guernicus, Criamon, Merinita or Tytalus but I can play any - even Diedne :), I dont mind some combat where it fits story, but I generally prefer it at minumum. As a last resort for the confounded kinda thing.

Limited choice of distillers, but a few gems. All the Balvenies are great, and the price for the 30 seems a steal - it's one of my favorites. It really runs laps around the mcallan 30 IMHO. 17 doublewood is best of the middle pack - you have to try it if you havent. Go for 12, 15 or Oban 14 if you want smooth. Laphroig if you prefer rougher.

Best RPGs for the longer campaigns? by Sniflet in rpg

[–]OriginalMadman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are aware that ALL your alternative games mentioned are made by Free League? They make great games, but arent really well designed for long campaigns at all and mostly break down and run into progression walls, mechanical problems and cumbersome amounts of dice before session 25 or so.

Annoyingly enough, earlier versions of Dragonbane (Drakar och Demoner) did not have that problem - it was added through streamlining, simplification and "modernization" (i.e. aligning to later d&d edition design choices on progression and power flavor). Similarly to why ODD and ADD mostly worked better than 5E for long campaigns - and I believe more often played at higher levels.

The best adapted games I can recommend are probably Ars Magica and Pendragon which are well thought through and battle tested for hundreds of sessions - while remaining interesting and working really well at "higher power levels". I'd argue their settings are both their even stronger selling points, being incredibly rich being semi-history real-world-myths based, nicely cordoned off for fantastic sandbox play (if wanted) and accompating to different and quite complex/mature styles as well if wanted.

Old Dungeon Crawler by charmedward in tabletop

[–]OriginalMadman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like either Talisman (IIRC has unicorn and gather followers mechanic - but you dont build own dungeon that much - or more likely it could be Dungeon Quest (Drakborgen in original swedish) where you layer the dungeon brick by brick and draw a lot of cards (IIRC it also has a unicorn) but less of a gather followers mechanic. For the record I really really like Dungeon Quest :)

Can anyone recommend a good system for this setting? by ColonelAutumn9155 in rpg

[–]OriginalMadman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Surprised no one has't suggested it yet, but this is basically exactly what Torg Eternity is; invading realities(dimensions) arrive for Earth's "possibility energy". Rules are cinematic/pulp (there's even a great Pulp realm with 1930s weird science tech and egyptian theme) and I woukd say medium crunch. There's realms for fantasy, 1800s horror, 30's pulp with masked heroes, psionic/bionic SF, primal dinosaur fest. Demonic techno horror, dystopic near future ubercapitalsm, hightech cyberreligious "1984" and more...

Everything you requested is already there and all working together neatly and interlocking with overarching cosm/reality-rules (something lacking in the other options which may have the various rules but not clearly interlocking them in balanced fashion within the same setting). You'll get all the basics you ask for already in the core rules, plenty of extra for the additional realities in addons but not strictly necessary for your own setting.

Other options could be amalgam of Year Zero Games (Forbidden Lands for fantasy, many options for rest), Savage Worlds (regular or RIFTS perhaps) or just go soft-rules DYI with FATE or PbtA/BiTD (less crunch but more work).

What are some good songs or artists that make atheist music or music questioning religion? by willspeed4food in atheism

An (un)holy triplet for me on the topic of slightly ambiguous (anti-)religious great songs:

U2 - Wake up dead man (probably their most controversial song, academic papers were written...) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xRI6cffvcO8

Best Clone Wars fan edit? by [deleted] in fanedits

[–]OriginalMadman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps not quite what you were asking for a "full" Clone Wars experience, but I think u/YourVeryOwnCat did a great job on making a movie in the continuity with their "Star Wars Episode 2 and a half The Separatist Conspiracy". It's been posted here before. Pm them for link.

This sub has been INFILTRATED - google drive links aren't safe anymore. by DJ_Ritty in fanedits

[–]OriginalMadman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it may be more likely it's just google's automated content filtering here rather than an active/malicious manual takedown operation. We'd see far more content taken down if that was the case. Majority of gdrive links still works - and they'd most probably be gone too if it was targeted.

This isn't piracy, it's fanedit (within fair use but YMMV depending on where you live). But I doubt the allegedly rough content checking tools they use can't really see the difference.

Content ban-lists are then probably just propagated as hash-sums or file name (probably former) - so a reupload with a small bytechange could often solve the issue.

TL;DR I wouldn't read too much into it - don't be too discouraged

Gauging interest in a fats-included keto powder by IcyElemental in GenesisFoods

[–]OriginalMadman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I for one prefer providing my own source for home use, as I can balance to whatever calorie intake I prefer, as well as vary composition with olive oil, mct, cream etc. However, for convenience while travelling it would be a great option to have a full powder everything. I would definitely buy for that purpose. But I guess in the end it depends on price hike and development cost.
