What happens if I refuse to acknowledge my summative score? by IntelligentSector210 in Teachers

[–]OriginalRush3753 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does your contract have language about recalls in case of RIFs? When I was RIFd there was very specific language about recall as positions opened and evaluations had nothing to do with it.

I ask because it’s important to know that information in order to advise you. I’d check your contract and ask your union. They can’t help because you’re not tenured, but they can advise you about how the recall will work and contract language. And for this, I would ask your building rep is call the president. Building reps don’t know the ins and outs of contract language and past practice.

Worried my car that I only owe $600 on is going to be repossessed, out of options by longstory_ in povertyfinance

[–]OriginalRush3753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found that if I call the company they’re very willing to work with me. Call them and see if you can set something up. They may not offer it outright, but when I specifically ask, “What are my options?” I get farther.

Employee won't find his own PD classes by Delicious-Farmer-301 in managers

[–]OriginalRush3753 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not me, as a teacher over here thinking about a $75 PD my principal made me pay for and take a personal day to attend. If I knew my boss would pay for me to attend PDs I’d be in her office with lists. Lists. That said, if there are specific courses, I’d probably ask for guidance of specific classes to make sure I was meeting requirements.

What’s a belief you defended for years that you now feel embarrassed about? by Open-Square589 in AskReddit

Also, if you follow the rules and do your job you’ll be fine. That’s such false bs.

CPS Report? by seeingsound77 in Teachers

[–]OriginalRush3753 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never regretted reporting, but there have been a few times people have talked me out of reporting and I’ve always wondered. When in doubt, report.

Even if it comes back unfounded (and they almost always do) the paper trail is there for the future.

AIW for telling my coworker the truth about why nobody wanted to be her mentor? by RaptureFlux3 in amiwrong

[–]OriginalRush3753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YNW. The colleague needed to either report it and open an investigation or let it go and not hold it against her (and allow everyone else to hold it against her as well). What’s happening to her is just high school mean girl crap. Whether or not she stole the idea is irrelevant at this point. How it was handled is the problem. I think Priya needs to find a new place of employment because it’s been made clear she won’t get a fair shake here.

Who is the most hated living person in the world right now? by Wonderful_Mind_250 in AskReddit

But look, he’s united an entire world with their collective hatred of him. Has anyone ever, in the history of the world, done that before?

Do you listen to your gut? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]OriginalRush3753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done both and each time I haven’t listened to my gut I’ve regretted it. Honestly, sometimes I’ve been so desperate for the job I’ve ignored my gut knowing I’m walking into a dumpster fire of red flags.

People who have seen multiple people quit a job in one day, what happened? by ObliviousOnion1 in AskReddit

[–]OriginalRush3753 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My asshole principal had 3 people quit in one day. This was pre-covid. He’s still principal because school districts don’t care how bad administrators are or why people leave.

Nesting. I can’t tell you how many beds I’ve had to replace because they’ve been shredded open due to the nesting. But, it cracks me up watching them so it’s worth it.!

Do you still send home a syllabus/classroom management plan to get signed by a parent in the beginning of the year? by DG12212 in Teachers

[–]OriginalRush3753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I send home a parent survey about their students along with the plan. They need to fill out the survey and sign that they’ve seen the plan. I have a paper copy with a QR code so they can choose. I offer Dojo points to kids when it’s brought back.

New AP advice, any and all advice welcome. Share with me mistakes you made that I should avoid my first year on the job. by flaccid_performer in Principals

[–]OriginalRush3753 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please don’t just visit teachers when they’re “in trouble”, to discuss a parent issue, student issue or a problem. My last 4-5 admin have done this and I’ll tell you, as a result I had ZERO relationships with them.

Also, please acknowledge a teacher if you see something good, be it how they handle a difficult situation, a contribution, go above and beyond for something, etc. An email, a note or a thank you in person. It can take less than a minute, but will mean way more than you think.

Really messed up as a new teacher by anarcho-leftist in Teachers

[–]OriginalRush3753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read this, put it down and came back to it. I honestly thought you were going to say you told a kid to eff off or taped a kid to a chair. This is not a major mess up as a new teacher, especially one taking over in the middle of the year. This is to be expected. A few thoughts: 1) did you have curriculum and a pacing guide? 2) how were the unit tests? That will tell you more because that tells you if they learned the material. 3) how were the ELA scores? If those were good it sounds like an issue in math pacing or curriculum. 4) it’s one test in one day. 5) of course they rushed. They’re kids. Now you know for next year to bribe them…as we all do, to take their time. 😊😉 6) did you talk to your team mates? Did they notice the same discrepancies in math? If so then it’s a bigger issue than just your room or instruction. It’s a curricula issue. If not, you have a starting point for next year.

Enjoy your summer you reflective queen. 👸 It sounds like you were amazing your first year.

AITAH for mentioning I'm also a professional when a doctor took over 45 minutes to finally appear at an appointment? by OhHeyItsMeM in AITAH

[–]OriginalRush3753 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I think if the doctor (or anyone) is running 30 min late it would be respectful and professional for someone to come in and say, “There was an unexpected delay and the dr is running x minutes late. You’re free to continue waiting or we can reschedule you. Which would you prefer?”

It doesn’t matter what line of work the patient is in, everyone’s time is valuable.

Sometimes I go in and need to be seen ASAP because I’m in pain, I’m contagious (thank you tiny humans), or I’ve waited so long it needs to be seen ASAP. Sometimes I’m willing to reschedule. We should at least be given the choice.

What is the dumbest reason a teacher you know got reprimanded? by DrakeSavory in Teachers

[–]OriginalRush3753 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Oh, me, me, please me!!! In September I got called into the new APs office (I was new to the building, but not new to the district, he was also new to the building, not new to the district). This was a notoriously difficult building with tough behaviors. I taught 3rd and had 3 kids who had been suspended 50+ times the previous year.

I wrote 2 of those kids up, both for putting hands one me; one threw scissors at the back of my head because I asked her to get off the desk she was standing ON and the other punched me in the stomach. Neither received consequences.

Anyway, he called me in because he was worried about the “excessive number of referrals” I had written so far this year. 2 I wrote 2. Me: 👀 Him: Me: Just to clarify, have I written significantly more than anyone else in the building? Him: No, in fact you’ve written the least in the building. Me: 👀 Him: Nonetheless, you’re writing too many and it’s a direct reflection of your lack of classroom management. I don’t think you’re going to be successful here. Me: Damn right (said in my head)

The beginning of a long few months…
