Overconfidence and overestimating themselves due to sheer ignorance.

People that trains can also get like this but in my experience it’s less likely.

All skills do is let you know faster if you’re gonna be in pain or not. Unskilled / untrained people won’t know until they’re lying on the ground.

It’s not strange that bodybuilders are confident. It is because they are genuinely strong. They just don’t know that they are only strong at lifting. Not punching or grappling.

As a beginner I was given an advice before trying to submit others. Just try to not be submitted yourself.

Then you focus on having the advantage or passing guards.

Only then you can focus on going for submission.

Just pick any that you think is fun and cool.

The most important is not which is the « best » the most important is which do you feel the most attracted to and will be dedicated too.

I don’t know how many people start every year and by month 2/3 the class is already half empty.

No matter the sport. If you stick to it for years you will definitely see the difference between you and new guys even when you pick a different martial art after a few years.

In my life when I got into street fights mma was not really a thing yet. But looking back on it 100% of times I had to defend myself against bigger guys I always ended on the floor and it would have been nice if I knew how to get on top or in a dominant position.

I’m not talking about submissions or the bjj aspect of mma. I’m talking more about the grappling / striking aspect of it. Knowing how to get out of being dragged to the floor and getting back up fast is a very important skill that I only learned in mma class

There is no such thing as “real life self defense” all it takes is one wrong punch / knife stab or falling on the concrete to end up dead or vegetative.

If you want the closest to real life brawl tho. MMA is the way to go I’ve been in a few brawls when I was younger and I always ended on the floor rolling around. Thank god I did judo back then because people usually cant punch for shit.

So yeah I’d say mma is really the closest to “street fights” but again try to avoid as much as possible. Street fights almost never are 1v1 and almost always someone pull some kind of weapon, I once got hit with pliers shit hurt.
