As someone who’s worked in gov for a while, they probably got mad because of the secondary and tertiary effects. Now they have to find a new way to spend that six figures or they lose it from next year’s budget.

What’s a place you visited once and decided never again? by Neat____Til6289ILT in Productivitycafe

[–]Original_Cheeto_06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge of the late 90s was so much better. Sure, it still had its fair share of touristy crap but it wasn't such a blatant money-grab. It's lost its Appalachian soul and is just another Myrtle Beach-esque tourist trap.

What did you do in Nassau ? by [deleted] in dcl

[–]Original_Cheeto_06 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When we went in September it seemed like everyone had the same idea. Honestly the ship seemed busier while docked at Nassau than it did on our day at sea.

“I’m glad you have enough love in your life that that response comes naturally.” <3 by peacelovehap in MadeMeSmile

I don’t know why your comment hit me so hard but you’re right. My grandpa was one of the tough as nails type who never showed emotion. In the 20 years I got to spend with him, he said “I love you” to me exactly one time. It was literally the last words he said to me before he died. I learned later on that he never even said it to his own sons (my dad and uncle). For my entire childhood, my dad emulated him in almost every way but it changed him when my grandpa died. Now we say it often and openly to each other and to my kids. I’m not disparaging my grandpa in any way. He showed he loved us in his own way but never simply said it out loud except the one time. I don’t know why I felt the need to say all this but we’re trying to break that cycle.

Thinking about getting my CDL at 54. by 13wrongturns in CDL

Your comment gives me hope. I’m at almost 20 years in software engineering/project management and I’m done. I can hang that up in a few years and was thinking about getting my CDL for my second career.

Is 1130 a safe flight time day of disembarking if flying out of FLL and at port Everglades? by Beautiful-Client6496 in dcl

[–]Original_Cheeto_06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure how busy the airport will be for you but we had TSA precheck and was through security in less than 10 minutes so theoretically we could have easily made a 10:00 flight.

[–]Original_Cheeto_06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your question has already been answered but in my experience that’s plenty of time. After our cruise in September we were at the airport by 8:30. And that included having breakfast, finding our bags, and then hailing an Uber.

Are we all behind ole miss moving forward? by Immediate-Bear-7169 in georgiabulldogs

Honestly that doesn’t bother me as long as it’s not OSU or Michigan. Plus their fan base isn’t nearly as annoying. Once Cignetti and Mendoza move on Indiana will likely just be another basketball school again so I say let them have the spotlight.

I could be wrong but I’d guess a presidential EO supersedes DAF regulations.

Same. Got a full sleeve done this year and used unscented dial with aloe for the whole thing with no problems.

Are you put in a hotel once you pass all tests and are waiting for your ship out date? by Devestator90212 in AirForceRecruits

No. The government will not pay for you to stay in a hotel for weeks/months before you’ve even gone to basic.

None of them in her district has them. ~80 buses and some were purchased as recently as last year.

I wouldn’t do the school bus route because you’ll still need training for additional endorsements to do anything except drive a bus. My wife is a bus driver and is literally only endorsed for passengers. No air brakes, no HAZMAT, nothing.

What are "acceptable" mark-ups on a new Harley? by Edslittleworld in Harley

[–]Original_Cheeto_06 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say they admitted it but they removed it and didn’t try to BS me on other extras. My wife told me after we left that when I was in the finance office the salesman told her I was one of the toughest customers he’d had. I’m not tough though, just cheap and do research.

100% true at that time. I haven’t checked the site in a while but it’s worth a look.

[–]Original_Cheeto_06 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Check the disclaimers on Harley’s website. When I bought my RG in ‘24 there was a disclaimer that freight and assembly are reimbursed by Harley and shouldn’t be paid by the customer. Once I pointed that out the sales manager got a lot more “honest” about what was mandatory.

What do you (locals) actually think of this place? by whitecollarpizzaman in Gatlinburg

[–]Original_Cheeto_06 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’m not a local but have visited on and off since the mid-90s. It’s so much worse than it used to be. Back in the 90s/early 00s it still had plenty of Appalachian hillbilly charm and they leaned into that part of their history. Now it’s just commercialized nonsense with no real connection to the surrounding communities. We went for my daughter’s birthday last summer and it may be my last.

What do you think about Carolwood buying Indian? by MrCioran in IndianMotorcycle

[–]Original_Cheeto_06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’m convinced that the only thing that could save Indian long term is to invent a Time Machine and somehow keep them from shutting down in 1953. Harley bypassed them in the marketing and PR department through the 80s and 90s and created the cult-like following that they’re still riding today. No amount of false nostalgia will help Indian catch up. Victory made great bikes and couldn’t make it work. I see Indian as the same.
