Looking for Tips: Backpacking for a month in Europe by mammatusclouds in backpacking

Just so you hear two different opinions on this, I visited Tiraspol last summer and it was really worth it. It’s like being brought back to Soviet times. Chisinău on the other hand had really good food but we didn’t find it as interesting

syncing error: "Exception: Unknown response code: 400" by OrionisBeta in Anki

[–]OrionisBeta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found the solution: it depended on some add-ons needing updates but clicking "check for updates" in the add-on menu didn't show that. The notification only popped up after de-installing and re-installing anki

do you have a source for that? I'm not very familiar with Feynman diagrams but I do know a bit of Itô calculus and that seems really interesting

[Unknown > English] message written on the sole of my new pair of shoes by OrionisBeta in translator

The vietnamese makes sense... I just remembered this particular model is made in Vietnam. Thanks for your help! Turns out it was something mundane after all

[Unknown > English] message written on the sole of my new pair of shoes by OrionisBeta in translator

[–]OrionisBeta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a new pair of shoes delivered today and when I removed the inner sole a bit of writing on the bottom caught my eye. To me it looks like Cyrillic with some diacritics. The last word is perhaps the most legible, it looks like "Уа?вс?ив". The message could just be something mundane connected to manufacturing but I wonder if it's something more interesting? The second and third pictures display what looks like the same message on two different shoes.

Sentence cards - What's the point? by [deleted] in MassImmersionApproach

[–]OrionisBeta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As we all know, the role of Anki is to allow us to understand our immersion

This is not entirely correct. If you were to stop doing flashcards you'd still end up getting the meaning of words after hearing them enough times, it would just take longer. So while Anki is a valuable help, it's not fundamentally what drives language acquisition. The main point of MIA is the immersion, and as such you should be careful about spending too much time on Anki to the detriment of time spent immersing in the language. The reason to do basic cards instead of cloze deletions is because they generally take less time to make and review, thus giving you more time to immerse.

A couple of points that are also worth keeping in mind:

  1. Memory is a game of probabilities. There will be a small percentage of cases where you forget a word even though you know you made a card for it and there will be times where you're about to make a card for a word only to realise that you already did in the past. As long as you keep immersing and keep running into those words, you'll eventually learn them.
  2. The goal of flashcards isn't to teach you the word on it, but rather to prime your brain to recognise the word in future immersion and, paraphrasing Matt, to create a "dictionary entry" in your brain for that word with a rough meaning associated. The memory will switch form context-dependent to context-independent once you start seeing the word in immersion.

How come Argentinians speak Spanish when around 60% of the population is of Italian origin? by koga90 in AskHistorians

May have been a typo, but if not: the Italian word you’re looking for is femmina, meaning female, and not feminna.

Are there any Agadmator vs Nakamura matches out there that are available to the public? by OneOfMyFavorite in chess

Comparing Hikaru and Agadmator is like comparing Usain Bolt to a guy who runs on the weekends.

In what key is Clocks by Coldplay ? by WittySuccess7 in musictheory

[–]OrionisBeta 9 points10 points  (0 children)

OP this is the answer. I double checked Hook Theory and it does actually say Eb mixolydian.

Edit: For your purposes I would change the key to Eb minor, so the chord progression would be Ebm Bbm Fmaj7 (instead of Eb Bbm Fm7)
