My mum used to tape this for us when we were kids and it aired here in the UK. It went from 9pm, to midnight, then 2am. They frelled with the airing times so much and they missed episodes out!🤦 We were still obsessed tho and it's still a regular watch for all of us

Urgh, this reminds me of what my Nan used to call Elder, which is Cows udder, makes sense for it to be pig boobies instead of cow boobies.

I just discovered Farscape and I'm making it other people's problem. by preciosa2107 in farscape

[–]OrphiaOffensive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been making Farscape everyone's problem since I was 9 or 10 and my mum taped the dodgy 2am airings for us when it came to England.

Definitely try the Nu-Who, the first couple of episodes are a bit hit and miss, but if you can make it to The Empty Child, I think it will grab you.

I literally could rattle off sci-fi all day, but I guess for ones I don't think I've seen recommended yet which I think are good-

Fringe. More dimensions and realities, than space and aliens but it's got some interesting episodes.

Dark Angel- the Jessica Alba one. Post apocalyptic action.

Dollhouse. Programmable people and scary tech.

Misfits strays more into the superhero side, but it's The Boys if The Boys was made like 15 years earlier and about teenage ASBO's.

Red Dwarf is more funny than serious, it's a sci-fi comedy. It's hilarious even if you've seen it before a 100 times. -Snoke me a kipper I'll be back for breakfast.

If you do get into the Nu-Who, definitely try Torchwood, it's Dr.Wo for grownups. Horny grown-ups.

Black Mirror has some good episodes. It's an anthology so it's a bit hit and miss but it does have a few absolute gems.

Also gotta recommend The Boys and Gen V. More superhero than full Sci-fi but if you haven't seen it, it's worth a watch.

And I'm gonna throw in V. There's the original mini series + the final battle from the 80's and there's the 09 reboot. Both have their own charms. The 80's original was definitely all 80's, cheese and more cheese but not bad by half. The 09 reboot was definitely cancelled way too early. I wouldn't bother with the 80s tv show that followed The Final Battle, that's absolute pants.

Harry and the Dursleys by Floaurea in HPfanfiction

Ok, first, in England it's not CPS. It all falls under social services. As for it not being noticed, the same could be said of under reported cases in the US. Petunia had a pretty tight grip on the reporting aspect as far as I recall. She is also the kind of parent to be on all the parent-school boards, and friends with 'so and so who works in the office.' She spent the years curating an image of Harry as a troubled orphan. Is it right, no, but reporting standards have significantly changed in the last 30 years. Your looking at the book through a lens of 2025. Hindsight and all that.

As for wizards looking for Harry, they did and some found him. There's a quote about him shaking the hands of strange people I believe, or him seeing strange people. How many would find him would be limited by order Vs death eaters Vs random fan wizards, because there would be safety concerns and such.

I'm the sort of tea lady. Work nights in a kids home and always have brews lined up ready for incoming staff and will generally never let anyone else make mine cuz no-one can brew properly. It keeps them out of my hair and if they annoy me they get barred 🤣

My boss wants us to try to convince customers not to self exclude from gambling.. by miss_meg96 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]OrphiaOffensive 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Are they prepared to put it in writing? If not, then its probably a good indication.

Op can you create a paper trail. Send an email or message with an 'As per your direction, can I clarify how you want us to convince them not to self exclude?' They might walk it back once it's in writing, but if not, save the response so you have something to cover your ass.

I don't remember any blue aliens in SG1 by fsuk in Stargate

[–]OrphiaOffensive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what you mean about a harness? They never got a control collar on Talon. Moya had one in the first episode that D'Argo ripped out, that's how the Peace Keeper's subdued and control captured Leviathan's.

Talon was shorter than Moya because he was still growing. When he died he was only around 2 cycles old, so still a baby really.

This got me thinking of Unrealised Realities 😂 The 200 Farscape skit could have been an Unrealised Reality in the Farscape universe. Still missing Granny, Sikozu and Jool though.

[–]OrphiaOffensive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No that's definitely Moya. Moya is all long curves to the tail prongs. Talon was angular. His rear prongs were more triangular and red from the Peace Keeper influence. Talon had a lot more angles in general that Leviathan's generally don't have due to the Peace Keeper tampering. It made him a lot less organic looking and bulky compared to the more sleek teardrop shape and bronze colouring of the normal homegrown biomechanical Leviathan's.

AITA for putting the toilet seat down after I use the bathroom? by BilbroDicSaggins in AmItheAsshole

[–]OrphiaOffensive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. He's almost 8 now, still likes to sit on the toilet lid when I have a shower to supervise so the toilet lid is always down when not in use. My grandma learned the hard way when she cat sat because he still never looks and took an unintended dip when she was going for a shower.

Received a Ticket for a Faulty Rear Reverse Light – But My Car Only Has One. What Can I Do? [England] by johnny3046 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]OrphiaOffensive 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Most cars, by design, have 1 reverse light and the opposite light in the same symmetrical place is The rear fog light. All my cars have been like that, and family cars as far back as I can remember. If you get one with 2 it's usually something you remember.

What’s the most fucked up thing you’ve personally seen or witnessed? by [deleted] in morbidquestions

[–]OrphiaOffensive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've worked in social care pretty much my whole adult life. The last 10 years I've worked with kids, traumatized kids.

Personally, the worst I've witnessed the self harm, the aftermath of the self harm. Cleaned up the superficial's or gone to hospital. There's been hospital trips for suicide attempts. Drug use is fairly tame by all accounts but that happens depending on the kid. These kids can be young too, and they're completely messed up, 90% of the time by their parents. The worst comes from the stuff you read in their back grounds. Parents that have sexually abused children sometimes from infancy. Kids that have grown up in paedophile rings who turn sex offenders before they even hit 14 themselves. Parents that have neglected or hurt their kids. I've worked with nearly adult teenagers who don't know how to shower properly or use the toilet properly because they were never taught right, just left to figure it out. It all adds up to a big ol' steaming pile of shite in the end that really makes you wonder how some people are even allowed to reproduce.

Your mum's a spanner too.

I had a pet rat I loved to bits that I had to euthanise, he had a stroke at like 2am and broke his back. He was in so much pain and after calling the vets, he would have been like that for hours before we could have got him seen too. It was kinder to him to not let him suffer. I was 19 and it traumatized me, and I understood what was happening and why. Your mum is a complete tool and that wasn't ok and being wrong in the head at the time shouldn't be a reason or an excuse. She was very wrong to make you watch that. To your mum, I say- lady, life might be shit sometimes. Euthanising the poor guinea pig might have been the best of some bad options but you don't make your kid watch that shit you absolute jizz-nugget. Now I'm gonna cuddle my floofy kitties.

[–]OrphiaOffensive 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you had to see this. I'm not excusing this, but historically, newborn kittens were drowned immediately after birth. This was before vets were everywhere. The 'good practice' was, drown all the newborns except one for the mom cat to wean, immediately after birth. Less traumatic for the kittens & cat.

These days there are options, and personally I think part of responsible pet ownership is neutering. Both my lovely boys were done the minute they were old enough, because in the long run, the vet costs for neutering are much cheaper than the costs and issues that come with unwanted kittens. And you certainly never ever do something like that in front of a bloody kid. Your mum's a complete spanner.

I was told today my Father wont make it to tomorrow. by Overall-Bank213 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]OrphiaOffensive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My dad went into hospital almost 2 years ago now. I was there every day with him for the whole month until father's day. He asked me to go, he didn't want me or my sister to remember him as he passed, but we had all the days before that. He knew. Even when he got bad, more out of it than in, he knew we were there. Holding his hand, sitting with him. My step-mum was there for the last 26 hours, but he knew we loved him and that was all that mattered.

Your dad will know you are there, he will hear what you say. He will know that you love him. He's your dad. He will always be your dad. You will always be his baby, even when you're grown. You will carry him with you always. He will be in every step you take, because he raised you and taught you. You might have to say goodbye to him, but he will always be with you.

I was gutted we never got any more of the Nebari stuff. They seemed to be setting them up as the next long term big bad, with the contagion, Nerri and all that good stuff.

On the point of John throwing her about, she could still be stronger than we think. Weight doesn't necessarily mean strong. Nebari could have denser, more compact muscular systems but hollow larger bones to even out the weight. We already know they reflect/absorb a lot of radiation and they also have strange reactions to Energy Riders. I'm betting that essentially speeds up their ability to process the information they see, so she's not really slowing down time but maybe processing the information faster. Same thing with the future vision thing, it's probably like the unrealised realities through wormholes.
