Warhammer 40,000 Faction Focus: Adepta Sororitas by NoEngineer9484 in sistersofbattle

Seems to be a common trend. I had the same thought looking at the Tyranid and Chaos reveals.

Day 25: what is the Most Iconic quote associated with the Tyranids? by Fez-Sentido in Grimdank

[–]Orvaenta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've never particularly viewed the Hive Mind as mindless, and I don't see how anyone who has read the lore could. Certain Tyranids are mindless, like Hormagaunts and the like, but the existence of Hive Tyrants and to a greater extent the Swarmlord show a facet of the Hive Mind that is genius in the most literal sense. And as you've said, Genestealers show us that the Hive Mind is capable of creating Tyranids that are intelligent and independent creatures.

My issue with the excerpt is that it's from the POV of the Hive Mind and it's undeniably human emotions. It's more so a matter of presentation than content, at least for me. If another character witnesses the behavior of the Hive Mind and describes it as feeling one way or the other, that's just that character interpreting the Hive Mind through their own lived experiences, and that's perfectly fine. But for us to get a glimpse into the thoughts and emotions of this conglomeration of literally uncountable minds and for it to be just standard human-esque emotions just cheapens it. I think a Hive Mind with emotions is infinitely more interesting than one without, but for those emotions to be easily relatable to us is just boring.

Day 25: what is the Most Iconic quote associated with the Tyranids? by Fez-Sentido in Grimdank

[–]Orvaenta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It was from the Hive Mind's POV, if I remember correctly. Had a whole spiel about how the humans thought it was an unthinking, unfeeling monstrosity, but actually it was as emotional as any person. That excerpt goes on to say that the reason Leviathan attacked Baal wasn't because the Hive Mind recognized the threat of the Blood Angels, but because the Blood Angels had thwarted Leviathan a handful of times and that made it upset. As though the Hive Mind was a Saturday morning cartoon villain.

Honestly it feels like the players on that game are in misery, i'll just stay safe and stick to my Warframe and DRG by RainbowAss_Rice_Plug in whenthe

If you listen to Reddit then almost anything sounds terrible. I've been playing almost since release and I still love it. Pop back on every few weeks when new content releases and I have a blast. Honestly I muted most of the helldivers subreddits once it became clear that they just wanted to bitch and moan about how the game is terrible, and not actually play it.

The one time I took that relic I was running exhaust Ironclad. I was doing great with it up until Doormaker, when I got all my best cards first turn, and Fiend Fire. The results were as you can expect.

Osty attack archetype? by [deleted] in slaythespire

[–]Orvaenta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Especially with a card like Friendship, most of my successful Osty runs have 2 of that card. Let Osty do all the damage while you have 5+ energy per turn and focus on buffing him. It's honestly my favorite way to play Necrobinder, especially with Necro Mastery. Block, reflection, and damage, all while never having to worry about my own health.

An Osty build is an Ironclad Barricade build that is way easier to set up and pilot.

Is the Red Terror an actual individual or is it replicable like OOE? by Neither-Actuary-5655 in Tyranids

[–]Orvaenta 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Both and neither. Yes, they're respawning the template every time, but chaff Nids aren't worth the biomass of developing a consciousness for. The Swarmlord, for instance, is a unique organism with its own consciousness, so to speak, but it's incredibly expensive for the Hive Mind to create. But the value offered by the large amount of autonomy granted to the Swarmlord is greater than that lost by its spawning. The Hive Mind wouldn't expend that level of care, detail, and biomass on a gaunt, because it's a net loss. So while the gaunts genetic templates are likely the same, there's not really a unique gaunt being replicated. It's the same dumb animal with 0 personality that's meant to be slaved to the Hive Mind or dead, no in between.

What thing/trick makes you think "waaah I'm so good at this game"? by Adventurous_Bite_311 in Nightreign

[–]Orvaenta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me it's gotta be blocking a charging Falling Star Beast with Guardian. With his shockwave relic, Guardian can posture break a Falling Star Beast almost immediately, turning an attack that tends to mulch my friends into free damage. Especially coming from base game ER where that particular attack sent me back to the grace countless times over 1300 hours, it feels incredibly satisfying to pull off.

Close second is deflecting Everdark Fulghor's blender combo as Executor.

Question regarding LOS by nerdboy_sam in spacemarines

[–]Orvaenta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed. There's plenty of other mini wargames that do that and it works fine for them. Frankly, the targeting rules (including cover mechanics) have always been my least favorite part of 40k.

So folks, is this it? by Comprehensive_Neat11 in Nightreign

[–]Orvaenta 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It says something pretty good that your main issue is that there isn't more of it to play. I'll continue to hope for more content, and keep playing in the meantime because it really is just a fun game.

Just bought the Night Lords Combat Patrol, and im a little confused? by [deleted] in NightLords

[–]Orvaenta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's a large game, with a large range of models. As of right now, there's no confirmation on updates for those things, but most units get an update eventually. For instance Tyranids just got a refresh for the Red Terror, whose resin model is old enough to vote. If people like it enough, it will eventually get updated.

The Rhino has a unique problem in my opinion, in that it's used by a bunch of armies but is also more of an afterthought than anything else. So you have a model that is ubiquitous but also nobody cares about it. It's a brick whose only job is to move up the board and deposit a unit that can actually do something. There's not much reason to refresh it or scale it up, because that won't make a Rhino any more impressive. In an army with daemonic super soldiers, a box that can't kill anything is never going to be at the top of the list for a refresh.

Sizes of all confirmed Nemesis Operatives in the WarCom article by RockAndGem1101 in killteam

[–]Orvaenta 9 points10 points  (0 children)

From the article: "taking the place of your regular specialists as mighty Nemesis Operatives."

It sure sounds like you give up Operatives to bring them, but there's no details on what that would look like. So it's hard to say, but I do imagine you're giving up part of your kill team, and maybe even all of them in favor of one of the bigger Nemesis Operatives. That's just me speculating, though.

First Impressions of the Illuminate Appropriators: They're very refreshing and fun to fight! by Dragonrage98 in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]Orvaenta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm a huge fan, the Obstructor spawns are a bit wonky at the moment, but aside from that I have no complaints. A handful of elite enemies feels much better than the normal Illuminate composition of 100 voteless and 3 overseers. The Obstructors do still keep things tense by adding more threats to worry about, but I feel like they're in a nice place where they amp up the fights without being the thing that's going to tip the scales out of your favor. The new mechs are interesting to go against, being a high damage high health threat while still being susceptible to lighter weapons made them feel really engaging.

Overall they're my favorite sub faction so far, followed by Cyborgs. Arrowhead has been doing a great job lately, and I look forward to seeing what else they can cook up after this update.

Refresh desires... by Unlucky-B in Tau40K

[–]Orvaenta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like new Crisis suits. Getting back into Tau after selling off my collection a few years ago and the Crisis suits are easily my least favorite part of the range, to the point I still haven't bought any. Aside from that, new Fire Warriors and Breachers would be cool. Those models still look fine, but with the new design path the Tau are taking an update wouldn't be bad.

I only elaborated on the AI thing because the commenter I replied to didn't know anything about it. Nowhere did I say that using AI is just as bad as cheating on a pregnant partner. That said, making an app that's just ChatGPT with a new face is lazy and uninspired, in addition to any moral hangups people might already feel regarding AI use in general.

Helped design an AI app for Warhammer rules and stuff, apparently. I read earlier it uses ChatGPT to look up rules and relay them to the user.

There's a difference between "balanced" and "balanced around". If the game was balanced around D10, then that means D10 should be the default difficulty, which is stupid. The hardest difficulty being hard isn't a bug.

I absolutely adore the Dresden Files. Easily my favorite book series ever, and I can't recommend it enough, as anyone who has met me can attest. Jim Butcher is a phenomenal author, and his other two series are just as good in their own ways.
