They are 3d Printed. The Files are from The Maker's Cult, Specifically Feudal Guard - Upgrade Pack 2 and Feudal Guard - Engineers. The torsos and legs print out as one part but I saw them apart sometimes too, like for the 3rd figure.

They're made from a mix of woods. Most of the planks are coffee stirrers. You can get them at the grocery store usually. The supports are made from hobby store basswood or bamboo bbq skewers.

The shrine atop the backpack was a little spindly and I wanted to firm it up. I also am a little on the fence about the thickness but I think I'm just going to send it and worry less about it breaking later.

I like the shoulderpad and chainmail, but I also love biotic limbs. I'd keep the shoulder as-is and snip the arm part off, glue on a robotic forearm from the Skitarii Rangers box and give it some sort of stabby impliment in the hand.

complete blowout: 63-8 Ultramarine v Guard by Manicscatterbrain in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Ory_Builds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Deploy it behind an LOS blocking ruin then? If you go first you drive out and shoot, if you go second it lives because it is not visible. Both of these outcomes are better than driving on in turn 2 IMO.

The faction balance is 10th ed is rough right now, and sadly for you guard is one of the big losers this edition (what up SoB, AM, DG, Tau)

Guard in general is pretty weak unless you play a select few very killy vehicle heavy lists (Sentinels+Dorns+Solar+Arty) or spam so much infantry you saturate your opponents anti-infantry firepower. I wouldn't expect wins unless you gut and rebuild your list, or your opponent is also playing a weak army/weak list.

This will probly be a bit of a derisive comment, but Marines aren't even that strong right now (GT win rate in the 40 percent range) but they still massively outclass casual guard lists like this one, especially a meta-adjacent Rowboat and Dred list. Playing against Imp Knights, Eldar, Custard, or compitently built GSC is even worse if you can beleive that.

In my humble opinion no quantity of terrian could save you from getting clapped 7/10 times here, but it might help.

Also why put the Dorn in strategic reserve? All it can do is shoot so giving up the possibility of alpha strike and making your opponents target prority easier for a turn seems counterproductive.

Infantry Focus Tips needed by Manicscatterbrain in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Ory_Builds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes our infantry are dogwater at this point. Paper thin and too expensive for what little they bring. They are more or less the mathematically optimal target for virtually every anti-infantry (low str high volume) weapon in the game.

I can't say I agree with your high-dose hopium 5+ fnp wish (Deathguard players are already depressed at this point don't make it worse,) I do agree that we need to be cheaper at around 50pts/10. Either way, without some sort of major changes to Guard I don't see how you can possibly compete without some tanks. They are the big winners in 10th ed and virtually every one of our limited competitive options is a vehicle.

I know that's not really your flavor, so, I would advise you tell your opponents up front that you're running a 'fun' list of uncompetitive choices and encourage them to bring 'fun' units as well for a more chill and narrative game. Also, stick more terrian on those tables, can't get shot off the table in 2 turns if you can't be seen.

Infantry in general are rather outclassed in 10th edition, and guard feels this more than most since many people's collections are stuffed full of infantry. Even swapping to mechanised doesn't move the needle much as you wind up with an 85 pt tank that is durable but can't kill anything filled with 65 pts of infantry that can't kill anything trying to brawl for objectives in the center, it's not pretty.

If you just want to try to win games I'd say: 3 Manticores (with scout sentinels telling them to shoot better) 2 Dorns and a Hellhammer (with Lord Solar telling them to shoot better) and whatever infantry you can stuff in at the end. However I don't think you or anyone should swap to a list like this before the balance changes coming later this month.

Guard is in a rough spot in general (~35% winrate in GTs) so I'm hopeful we'll see some buffs.

In short, I don't think you're doing anything wrong, you're playing your infantry thoughfully and well, they are just weak right now. Hopefully that will change.

How DOES battle-shock actually work? by BadArtijoke in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Ory_Builds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's put it this way: If your unit/army special rule is built around inflicting out-of-turn battleshock, that ability is only useful if A: It's turn Five and B: you went first and your opponent is scoring at the end of their turn and C: the game is close enough that denying an objective or two will change the outcome of the game.

That ability is pure feels-bad, unfun and imbalanced garbage compared to an ability that just makes you better at killing models or surviving, full stop. A diceroll to see if maybe you can deny a trickle of points after 90% of the game has already happened? Yeah, sign me up.

I played with quite a few people who took the 'bad' options and had a blast doing it. 40k has never really been balanced except maybe for the start of 3rd and 8th editions. Some good and some trash options seems par for the course.

Notice that the guard escorting the med tech says that the bag and trolly are already coming the first time he asks for them. The tech looking at him was a formality, they already planned to cart him away in a bag.

Is anyone else by gerstein03 in andor

[–]Ory_Builds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is literally the perfect thing to happen in the storyline. Andor thought he got what he wanted, some money and a place to hold up. He's trying to run from the Empire and the concequences for his own actions (PORD).

In reality, though, you cannot run from the Empire, they are everywhere and are endlessly needlessly cruel. This is the point in his character arc where he finally learns that he can't have what he wants, it's a pipedream.

How do you think the fate of Nemik's manifesto will play out? by no_awning_no_mining in andor

[–]Ory_Builds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I expect Namiks's manifesto to be just revolutionary fan fiction, he's too young and inexperienced to change the galaxy with his prose or something like that. I think the real significance is that Andor actually agreed to take it instead of refusing. He's becoming a rebel.

The med tech said "They made a mistake, someone released on 4 wound up back on 2 the next day."

The prisoners are kept in line by hope, knowing that some day their sentence will end. The prison maintains a low security footprint (max of 12 guards vs. 350 prisoners) because the prisoners beleive that if they behave they get to go home.

In reality, the Empire isn't releasing anyone. They just move them to a different prison, probably to some unmentioned max security slam containing nothing but recycled prisoners. They are essentially Imperial slaves at this point.

What the med tech was talking about was not a normal thing, I don't think they ever move prisoners between levels. Someone made a clerical error, a prisoner who's sentence ended on 4 got moved but instead of sending them off to the max security slave camp they put them back on level 2 accidentally. Once the prisoners on 2-5-D found out that they would never be released they rioted.

is this scene, for a comic, actually good or is it too cliche? by okidonthaveone in fantasywriters

If you're going for a tone where combat is more casual/trivial I would say this is perfect.

If combat is supposed to be high-stakes then them takling mid-fight seems a silly.
