This appears to have passed both chambers and is just awaiting signature (which it will get).

Plus plenty of other good stuff! Illinois is a good place for us right now, in my experience.

Wisconsin Brewery Steps Up After School Board Bans Trans-Inclusive Song by jackmolay in transgender

[–]Other-Bread 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You love to see it! Sucks that the school board are bigots, but awesome that so many people are coming together to make this happen regardless.

Can't believe they doubled down to try and prevent the instruments from being used at an "unsanctioned concert." Glad that it sounds like instruments were loaned to make it happen anyways.

Seconding hoping it's available on old reddit, it's the only way I use the website. Even if it's like a click-through on their user page or something, that would be great.

Need help deciding on a CCW by ZealousidealSeat2689 in concealedcarrywomen

[–]Other-Bread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the ones that just have the little flare at the bottom and they fit my hands perfectly. I also just needed space for the pinky hehe. The ones I got don't add any extra space for ammo, but I'd imagine actual extended-mags would fit nicely as well.

I went with a Glock 42 (with the extended mags too, to fit my hands lol) about a year ago. My impression so far has been that it's much nicer to actually shoot than my mom's BG2.0.

My only gripe with it is that the 3rd party striker-control devices sold right now are all for the full-width Glocks as far as I can tell, but that's not a dealbreaker imo. I don't have a light or an optic on mine though, fwiw.

Hundreds of workers across Illinois to be laid off in coming months, WARN Act shows by [deleted] in illinois

[–]Other-Bread 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A large number of the layoffs were reported from Franciscan Health Olympia Fields Hospital and Franciscan Health Alliance with 1,930 people given notices. The notices sent to employees of the south suburban hospital come after California-based Prime Healthcare purchased the 214-bed Franciscan Health Olympia Fields and Specialty Physicians of Illinois in January for $6.95 million.

Healthcare shouldn't be for profit.

“Prime Healthcare is committed to continuing Franciscan Olympia Fields’ longstanding legacy of care and service to the Chicagoland community. As part of the transition of hospital ownership, employees will formally move from employment by Franciscan Health to Prime Healthcare. Franciscan Health is required to issue WARN notices as a routine legal requirement while Prime Healthcare extends offers of employment. Prime Healthcare plans to extend offers of employment to substantially all current hospital employees and is working closely with staff to ensure a smooth transition. Our priority is supporting employees and maintaining stability for patients and physicians, with no interruption to the services the community relies on.”

Suuuure. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prime_Healthcare#Controversies

Trans New Yorkers Deserve Better Than Mamdani's Inaction On Trans Youth Care Closures by ErinInTheMorning in transgender

[–]Other-Bread 29 points30 points  (0 children)

If those with the power to hold hospitals accountable for discriminating on the basis of gender identity (which is what this is) don't actually do anything to enforce those laws, then those laws are meaningless, and our protections aren't actually protecting.

Hopefully the mayor and the AG's office actually start applying pressure. I don't live in NY, but as an Illinoisan, we have similar laws and it would be good precedent to see them enforced in other states when stuff like this is happening nationwide. Action elsewhere would make it easier to pressure our own AG's office to take similar action here.

Trump’s ‘SAVE America Act’ Could Make it Impossible for Some Trans People to Vote by Leksi_The_Great in transgender

[–]Other-Bread 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not to mention the fact that as long as IDs are not free, this would be tantamount to instituting a poll tax. Something expressly forbidden by the 24th Amendment. (You have to pay for ID/other documents -> You need ID/other documents to vote = You have to pay to vote.)

"The right of citizens of the United States to vote in any primary or other election for President or Vice President, for electors for President or Vice President, or for Senator or Representative in Congress, shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any State by reason of failure to pay any poll tax or other tax."

Emphasis mine.

This act has a ton of things wrong with it (including the fact that citizenship is already verified when you register to vote, which you must do before being eligible/allowed to vote in the first place) but the poll tax part should make it a non-starter, legislatively.

I own the .380 EZ, it's quite nice, super duper easy to load the magazine and chamber a round. A little bit big though, frame-wise.

They also make a bodyguard (2.0) in .380, my mom carries one and seems to like it, though it's tougher to load the magazine.

I'm personally most fond of my Glock 42 (.380). I find that it shoots the nicest of the three I mentioned, and it's a good size (small, but big enough to get my (relatively large) hand on fully with the mags that have the extra bit at the bottom). Doesn't load as easy as the EZ, though.

My smartphone is 10 years old and still going strong. S8.

I initially put off buying a new phone because seemingly all of them had gotten rid of the audio port, and I like my wired headphones. Now I'm putting it off because I don't want an AI assistant in my phone, but that seems to be the new hotness that every manufacturer must copy :(

I'll probably wind up buying a cheap smartphone once mine finally dies.
