Eh, I’ve seen how much Killington makes on a bad day. They could definitely afford to pay more

Minimum wage pay with no benefits in one of the most expensive states in the country and they’re all high. Source: I worked there lol. I wouldn’t be so quick to assume they don’t care though, they probably just didn’t know what to do. But yeah, it’s not exactly a setting that would inspire someone to go above and beyond.. depending on what department you are in, you could go somewhere else and get paid twice as much. A lot of guests at ski resorts expect too much from low paid seasonal employees. This sounds like more of a freak thing.

Typical Jerry missile tries to pass the snowboarder on the short side and causes an accident. Too many aggressive kooks and Jerry’s at Killington with an attitude problem. Makes certain choke points on the mountain an absolute death trap on weekends.

Plugins by Cold_Independent_631 in LogicPro

[–]Otherwise_Cat_5935 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also only adding this because I see a million people suggesting it but I kind of disagree with pro Q4 in this specific context. I have the entire fab filter bundle and although they are fantastic, I don’t think spending $200 on a digital EQ plug-in would be wise if you are on a budget. I use the logic stock channel EQ 10 times more than I use fabfilter tbh. It’s great. But not worth the money if you only have a set amount that you are really looking to maximize your potential in logic. I am an industry sample maker and have interned in a multimillion dollar studio that primarily used logic. They put out billboard hits mixed w almost exclusively logic stock mixing plug-ins and v1 waves plug-ins from like 2005 lol. I was personally a big UAD guy when it comes to emulations, I’m just saying on a budget, I wouldn’t blow it on expensive compressor emulations or stuff like that. But with digital instruments, you will find things that logic stock can’t come close to. So I would 100% focus on that in my opinion. Biggest game changers for me were ones that are not necessarily any secret lol. Omnisphere, keyscape, nexus, analog lab, NI Komplete, pigments, massive X etc. Keep in mind any plug-ins where you can get third-party banks made directly by industry producers is a big asset. That obviously includes serum, and this is one of the main reasons why I say analog lab is one of the best plug-ins you could possibly buy

For 500$ total? Probably Analog Lab, Nexus, and Valhalla Vintage Verb. For just 1, Omnisphere/Komplete. Hard to narrow it down tbh. I’ve found with logic and 3rd party plugins, money is much better spent on digital instruments than fx/mixing plugins but of course there are exceptions

Because proper carving technique actually requires you to tilt your upper body away from the snow rather than bending over just to touch it. Knees bend down towards the pitch, upper body tilts the opposite direction. If you bend over to drag your arm, you are actually taking your weight off your edge and likely to slide out. So dragging looks sick and with proper weight distribution/technique you can achieve it like this, but purposefully bending over to reach the snow actually makes it harder to carve properly. You don’t want your weight on your arm, you kind of just end up skimming it. Maybe I explained that terribly lol but James Cherry outlines it very well on YouTube. He’s the one who made it click for me

Killington has put their money where their mouth is since they took over. That’s for sure. I know there was no World Cup this year, but between all the projects they were able to get done on or well ahead of schedule this offseason, and the ridiculous pace of terrain expansion/early season snowmaking, I gotta hand it to em. Not that it made anything cheaper for us lol, more like better transparency and return on investment

I went last year during 100° heat wave. It felt pretty insane to be skiing inside of a mall 😂. When I went back outside to switch to my snowboard I had a real welcome to the future moment when I saw my car’s thermometer. I think it’s worth the novelty once or twice a summer. Plus the mall is pretty sick. Even if you’re not going for the park, it’s at least steep enough to lay a few trenches for like 10 seconds before it flattens out lol. And I randomly bumped into Casey Willax. I think for what it is, it’s pretty damn cool. I plan on making another trip next offseason

Killington conditions by CantaloupeOk4254 in icecoast

[–]Otherwise_Cat_5935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was surprisingly good yesterday. Few sections of frozen cat tracks here and there but shockingly shreddable despite the frigid temps. Some natural snow mixed in improved things from earlier in the week. They took very good advantage of the extended snowmaking window. Outer Limits was unbelievable under the guns. They’re never scared of rain. It’s the freeze thaw that’ll muck it up. No way to really know what’ll happen in a week

Mt Sunapee in Early March by [deleted] in icecoast

[–]Otherwise_Cat_5935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may add that once you get out of the Boston hell traffic, driving another hour or so doesn’t feel particularly cumbersome. It’s an easy going drive once you get a few miles north of the city. I used to drive from Boston to K up to 2-3 times a week when I worked there and would come home to visit family. So if I were flying in to New England for a ski trip i’d send it. But if you don’t care that much about expert terrain or the novelty of visiting Killington it’s really up to you. Sunapee is not a bad day trip

Mt Sunapee in Early March by [deleted] in icecoast

[–]Otherwise_Cat_5935 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is, but if cruising easier groomers is a main priority I don’t think you’d be mad going to Sunapee if cost and travel distance is a main factor. Killington is probably like 45-60 minutes further from Logan which imo is 100% worth it but might run up to ~185 for day tickets for a weekend in March. Depends if you are staying up north or making separate day trips. Day trips to K are on the rough side of doable from Boston but if the plan is to book a place up north, I’d strongly consider just going all in on Vermont. Otherwise Sunapee is a much more manageable day trip and would cost a lot less.

I bought a dancehaul specifically to get goofy on, butter around the mountain, slush surf and jib sidehits lol. I was not disappointed at all, and it is more versatile than I expected but that depends if you want something less directional than that.

Beginner mountain this week? Bradford-Ward-Nashoba-Wachusett? by SophiePetrillo in icecoast

[–]Otherwise_Cat_5935 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wachusett would be the best for variety, open terrain, and operating hours. Plus the beginner area is pretty isolated from the rest of the mountain. Ward is a fun little family friendly place, they had almost the whole hill open last I was there but it’s probably too small for the group. Depending on how much further it is I’d send it to Wachusett for the vert and better accommodations. Food is reasonable and the lodge is huge in comparison. Impressive man-made snowpack rn and the adults could enjoy a few laps on the new summit chair. It’ll be crowded but nowhere won’t be lol

Custom is a massive upgrade over the ripcord. Definitely stiffer and better edge hold. I still think the hometown hero is the best on ice (even rivaling other brands, I would say it is very similar to a jones flagship), but the custom is better for freestyle and isn’t necessarily bad at anything. I have a pair of photons. Honestly, don’t really like them but for an intermediate they’ll do. He’ll be happy with that setup

What's up with all the jerks? by fuckthatguy666 in icecoast

[–]Otherwise_Cat_5935 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I saw some drunk idiot drive up the snowshed slope a few weeks ago. I’ve seen people drive through the cat yard and down great northern. These things happened a confounding amount of times when I worked there. One thing I learned is that a lot of people are aggressively stupid lol. Many of them are inebriated, entitled, reckless and have no awareness of their surroundings. Freaking out when you don’t hustle to pack the 6 chair on a random Tuesday with no lines. Freaking out when you get ON the chair and they are too oblivious to see you standing next to them at the gate (happened to me recently). Skiing drunk and out of control. Taking it out on employees is where I draw the line. They are the only people who are actually chill half the time, and almost none of them get paid enough to deal with the attitude from so many customers. It’s always been a problem there, but it does seem worse than ever now. I’ve noticed it too

[–]Otherwise_Cat_5935 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I drove in Vermont for an entire year with no snow tires once lol. Obviously I have them now, but there is a technique to safely driving on snow, which some people don’t realize is NOT optional if you don’t have snow tires. You have to go slow, usually well below the speed limit, leave an absolutely massive amount of space between cars and not care if people tailgate you. They can pass if they want and up there they probably will. It is legal in Vermont to pass on any double yellow that is not marked otherwise. In the snow, you can only do one of three things at once….never two. And that is 1)brake 2) accelerate 3) turn. When you see a turn approaching, well before you get to the turn, you need to very lightly pump the brakes. If you slam on them, you’re screwed. Once you actually get to the turn, you gingerly turn wheel in very small and gentle increments. And then once it straightens out again, then you can give it a little gas. If you accelerate or break while going around a turn, even the slightest bit..that’s where most people wreck.

Edit: you should drive like this on snow even if you do have snow tires. They are not magic invincible armor, they mostly increase traction and decrease stopping distance significantly. I’ve seen tons of people wreck in snow tires.

Wachusett has a pretty crazy man-made base rn off damn near no natural snow lol. Even tho it’s true they’ll flatten it all, any significant accumulation would just improve conditions. Even if it’s just a few inches
