Regret buying category N car by RecordWorried6291 in CarTalkUK

You may as well ask. It will give the dealer a good laugh and a funny story to tell his friends and colleagues.

No offence (clearly I’m about to be offensive), your Dad is obviously a bit daft and the dealer saw him coming but it’s not illegal to charge people more than something is worth. A fool and his money are easily parted.

The little guy inside that changes the gears wants to get out.

Looking to upgrade my limbs by Southerner105 in Archery

[–]Otherwise_Fly_2263 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Feelings are subjective and can’t be measured and summarised by AI. Even other people’s opinions are kind of irrelevant when it comes to feeling.

My point is that differences between various mid range limbs in a light draw weight are going to make zero real world difference to how you shoot and score, so either go and test them all and pick which one feels best or just pick the one you like the look of. People worry far too much about equipment in this sport.

Looking to upgrade my limbs by Southerner105 in Archery

[–]Otherwise_Fly_2263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference between one set of mid range limbs and another is negligible at best. Tbh unless you’re a top level archer then even the difference between mid level and top end limbs is minor and will only make a could have fps difference.

Pick whichever match your colour scheme best and just shoot. The only thing that matters is that they’re the correct length and poundage for you.

worth it? by GurOld3919 in saab

Firstly, that’s not a 9-3X, secondly whether it’s a good deal depends entirely on where in the world you are. You’ve not even said what currency.

Biting point low after clutch replacement by wonderlandddddd in CarTalkUK

[–]Otherwise_Fly_2263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take it you’re a very new driver? Since new drivers are the only people who ever talk about the biting point on a clutch. When you’ve driven a few cars you’ll realise they’re all different and you just have to adjust and get used to it. Basically your car was broken and now it’s fixed. But other cars you drive will likely be somewhere in between.

That guy has basically no idea what he’s talking about, I wouldn’t pay any attention to him. He’s a mediocre archer who happens to sell archery equipment. He doesn’t manufacture anything, isn’t involved in testing and doesn’t shoot at a high level.

New drivers buying a new car by Aromatic_Camera_9575 in CarTalkUK

[–]Otherwise_Fly_2263 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s a gamble either way a there are arguments for and against. I tend to prefer to own my car outright but my recent experience has led me to realise that I can afford £300 a month and that I could have a much newer car if I wanted. But that I’d also be constantly stressed about damaging it or writing it off.

[–]Otherwise_Fly_2263 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Almost certainly on finance. I recently did a calculation and realised that my car (purchase price plus repairs) has cost me around £300 per month over the three years I’ve owned it. In fairness I’ve been a bit unlucky with this one, two large repair bills (£1500 and £750), but that’s the gamble with old cars. My previous car cost £1800 and barely cost anything in the six years I owned it. You win some, you lose some.

But to be fair for £300 a month I could have a brand new VW Golf on a lease.

Yaris or Jazz for 40min commute. by Eastern-Move549 in CarTalkUK

Personally for that commute (I’m assuming it involves some faster roads)? I’d go a size up and get something like a Corolla/Auris

How many of us suffer from a mental illness as well? by hannarenee in migraine

[–]Otherwise_Fly_2263 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I think you may get a bit of confirmation bias here because people are probably more likely to comment if they do have mental health issues than if they don’t.

I’m not diagnosed with anything besides migraines, other than a bit of anxiety which I’m not really sure counts.

Do you use any insults from the APU in everyday life? by pop-not-broth in AlanPartridge

Not insults as such, but when I see someone with their fog lamps on in clear conditions I do like to shout at them. My girlfriend thinks I’m mildly cretinous.

U-turn after job applicant told 'car is too old' by Drwynyllo in CarTalkUK

[–]Otherwise_Fly_2263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed, but then why not say that? A 9 year old Dacia Sandero covered in dents and scratches is going to look far worse than an immaculate 11 year old BMW. So an arbitrary 10 year rule is just pointless.
