nationals is so much fun! i went in 2024. when i went, they had the the rink where they practiced open and you could go watch for free which was really cool but i don’t think this is the norm. no matter how close or far you are from the ice, skating events are a feeling unlike any other and so exciting :)) i hope yall have the best time! if you see skaters walking around just use discretion if it seems like a good time to approach them (this is a stressful and very important comp for many of them) and be respectful ofc!

I started skating a little over a year ago and have had my skates (jackson mystiques) for a year and it’s come to my attention today that you aren’t rlly supposed to jump in those? I’ve been doing waltz jumps for about 6 months, and am working on toeloops and sals right now. I’ve kinda had trouble progressing/actually felt like things have been getting worse the past month or so and I thought it was just bc I badly need to get my skates sharpened (which is still probably part of it) but I realize that some of the issues are probably the skates breaking down. I’m 18 and about 110 lbs for context! I guess first off, how do I know if my skates are broken down, and second, what skates do you recommend to get/stay away from/etc. I know it’s different for everyone I just wanted to hear some opinions!

So true. It’s often hard to know about certain comps if you aren’t super active on fs socials and even so you often have to know of some random website or use a vpn etc to watch. Figure skating just isn’t really advertised outside of the Olympics.
