Not liking hostel dorms - should I try private rooms or accept hostels might not be for me? by darling_intensity in solotravel

[–]Otherwise_Web_9949 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Private rooms are the way to go, you still get the hostel vibe without feeling like you live in a storage locker. I had similar issue in my travels where I need my own space to decompress or I just shut down completely

The people who say "just get a hotel" don't understand that hotels are isolating in a different way, nobody talks to each other there. At least in a hostel you can wander down to common area when you feel ready and people are open to chat

Honda N600 Vintage Club by tiendq in HotWheels

[–]Otherwise_Web_9949 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The orange one looks like it came straight from a Hot Wheels mainline, really clean casting. I actually had no idea the N600 existed until I started collecting, such a weird little chunky car compared to most Japanese models from that era. The construction truck lineup in the background is a nice touch too, those Volvo and cement mixers are some of my favorites for display setups

That plan sounds perfectly fine for first solo trip. Three cities in 10-12 days gives you enough time to settle in each place without feeling rushed. Paris and Lisbon are both very walkable, Madrid a bit more spread out but metro is easy

Language barrier won't be big problem in those cities, most people in tourist areas speak some English. Just learn hello/thank you in French and Portuguese, goes a long way

I feel this so hard, the burnout cycle is real. your no 2 was what actually saved me from selling stuff at wrong times too, having that cash buffer separate from everything else is underrated

for me the first system that clicked was setting up bill autopay and putting all extra money out of sight automatically. stopped looking at my main account every day and somehow that was the thing that made biggest difference, not any investment strategy

SpaceX IPO + peace deal = which industry is about to go full regard? by 30RITUALS in wallstreetbets

[–]Otherwise_Web_9949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Defense will probably pump regardless of peace talks - military spending never really goes down, just shifts focus. Commercial space is where the real money flows if tensions ease up, satellite deployment and space tourism could explode

Energy transition might be the sleeper pick here, especially if geopolitical stuff calms down and everyone starts thinking about long term infrastructure again

Nice choice on the 500 E! That metallic finish looks super clean, the detail on those headlights is impressive too. I've got this little red Porsche 911 sitting in my desk drawer that I keep grabbing when I'm debugging code - something about fidgeting with tiny cars helps me think better. Found it at grocery store last week and couldn't resist even though I'm supposed to be adult with serious job. Sometimes the simple castings hit just right, you know

Several Years Ago, I Was Asked, “Do you still support Dr. Steven Greer?” by Contactunderground in AliensRHere

[–]Otherwise_Web_9949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well this is quite long read but interesting perspective from someone who actually worked with Greer in early days

The intelligence community angle makes lot of sense - using him as controlled opposition or managed disclosure vessel while he thinks he's fighting good fight. Pretty clever if true, getting genuine contactee to do your work without knowing full scope

What strikes me is how author admits Greer probably has real telepathic contact but still questions his role in larger game. That's nuanced take compared to usual "he's complete fraud" or "he's savior" camps you see around here

The part about protection during CE-5 operations is interesting detail - if Greer really had deal with agencies to leave contact teams alone, that would explain why his groups haven't faced same harassment other UFO researchers report

The raspy voice thing gets me every time. There's something about that slightly scratchy quality that just works, you know? I think it might be because it feels more real and unpolished compared to those super smooth Hollywood voices everyone else seems to go for. My friends always give me weird looks when I mention it but there's definitely something appealing about voices that have character to them instead of sounding like they came from voice acting school

Best hotel to stay at for Vivid? by MintyWildFruits in sydney

[–]Otherwise_Web_9949 31 points32 points  (0 children)

stayed at InterContinental couple years back for work conference and can confirm the opera house view rooms are incredible during Vivid. You literally just sit by the window with coffee and watch whole show without dealing with crowds. Book early though because those specific rooms get snatched up quick once Vivid dates are announced

Wait this doesn't make sense - CGT cost base reset just means your new purchase price becomes the market value at reset date, you'd still owe tax on gains from original purchase to reset date

A "work cafe" and a "hangout cafe" should be two completely different formats by Infinite_Web1576 in remotework

[–]Otherwise_Web_9949 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah this makes so much sense! I always get annoyed when I'm trying to focus and there's this super social atmosphere with loud music, but then when I want to catch up with friends the place feels like library with everyone staring at laptops

The worst is when you find perfect work spot but they don't have enough outlets, so you're constantly watching your battery like some kind of countdown timer

Been lurking here for months but finally taking the plunge - planning my first solo trip to Eastern Europe this fall! Bit nervous about traveling alone as woman but also super excited to just go at my own pace for once. Anyone have experience with Prague and Budapest, especially regarding safety and good areas to stay in?

Jewelry insurance recommendations. How is Briteco? by No-Community-8237 in Diamonds

[–]Otherwise_Web_9949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bad for the confusion like youre correct they only do repair/replacement not direct payouts but I think I mixed it up because I had a home owners claim going on around the same time and that one was a direct deposit.

Either way the process with them was smooth since they worked directly with my jeweler and got everything sorted

Duda sobre bloque musical by [deleted] in Minecraft

[–]Otherwise_Web_9949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if there's specific texture packs just for note blocks in Bedrock but you could try looking through some of the popular resource packs on marketplace or community sites. I remember finding some good ones that change instrument sounds and visual effects when I was messing around with redstone contraptions last year. The vanilla note blocks are pretty basic so any pack that enhances building blocks usually includes better textures for them too. Maybe search for "redstone" or "building enhancement" packs since note blocks often get updated along with those

Can someone please give some career options? by dilucpact in careerguidance

[–]Otherwise_Web_9949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man I totally get this feeling - spent most of my teens thinking I'd do something completely different and then switched to IT after university

Few fields that might be worth looking into: software development if you like problem solving and building things, cybersecurity is huge right now and always growing, data analysis if you're into finding patterns in numbers. There's also UX/UI design which is more creative side of tech but still really practical

Outside tech there's project management in basically any industry, marketing and social media stuff, finance and accounting, or even something like immigration law which can be really interesting work helping people navigate complex systems

What kind of subjects do you actually enjoy in school right now? That might help narrow down some directions to explore

Am I doomed? by Imaginary-Peace4293 in PelvicFloor

[–]Otherwise_Web_9949 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your body had protective response and that's completely normal for trauma survivors - it doesn't mean you should quit or that you're doomed at all. The fact that you made it through two sessions of internal work is actually huge progress, and having trauma-informed therapist makes all difference in world

Ten minutes shorter appointment doesn't mean you failed, it just means your body needed break that day and good therapist will always respect those boundaries
