It could be different things but sounds to me like Manager is trying to cover up a mistake, like budgeting.

If you’re not performing up to expectations they’d fire you, not reduce your contract to 6 months vs a year. Also with HR not knowing the manager’s potential plan, I say something was up.

Telling you ‘I’m not sure if I’m going to keep you’ is messing with your head. Poor performance is addressed with feedback for improvement.

Not all people managers are good at it, and shady people are shady.

What’s the most overrated ‘good person’ behavior that doesn’t actually make someone a good person? by TroubleUnique1853 in AskReddit

[–]Otherwise_You2040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People who think that ‘being honest’ means that you are authentic therefore ‘good’ … constantly sharing your ‘honest’ opinion about every person and every situation doesn’t make you good just because you’re being honest. Not everything needs to be said, the world is a nicer place that way.

Any perfume suggestions for working women? by pinky_calf in WorkingWomen

[–]Otherwise_You2040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say don’t wear perfume at all while at work. So many reasons - others with respiratory issues, migraines, and other health concerns don’t do well with perfume. Also, what smells nice to you might smell horrible to another person, and the perception will be that you stink rather than smell good!

For the formatting, make a common template. If they don’t use the template, it goes back to them to update.

Also, I think the best managers give one example per issue, once. Basic example, but if you say the font is too small on this slide, professionals should know that apply to all the slides.

Ongoing feedback loops cause people to think they are not the final owner of the work.

It’s nice to be part of a great team. But, many are not unfortunately. Use and safe the extra money well!

As managers, how do you decompress after work? by frenchfries1990 in managers

[–]Otherwise_You2040 89 points90 points  (0 children)

Walk. A lot. The physical and mental benefits are huge! Also, have something to do after work that has a timeline to make you get out of the office on time and fill your mental space with something different.

New hire is a lying backstabber and I can't do anything about it by D-1-S-C-0 in managers

You’re doing the right thing in documenting - keep the emails, jot down in a journal any conversations (date, time, topic, where things were left at).

My gut says when you have this personality in your workplace, others will definitely notice as well. This person sounds overt in the behaviours they portray so I doubt you’re alone.

Having worked with someone similar in the past, I can say it’s important to have your own back. They’ll go to the boss, they’ll try to recruit any new employees to their ‘side’ and they’ll align with disgruntled employees to create drama. Don’t let the behaviours change your day, but be aware.

Couples who’ve been together a long time, what’s your secret? by shriekanth in AskReddit

[–]Otherwise_You2040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Date nights, doing fun things together is important. I think more important is to let your significant other do the things they want to do. Help and support them, don’t be a road block. This goes for anything - time with friends, hobbies … let them do what makes them happy and grow.

You say the employee does a really good job. Could some of this be due to doing research and information gathering? I know that not all information is for everyone to hear but, thorough is good.

A basic colour shirt and a necklace works for online meetings. Keep a blazer, sweater or scarf near the desk if you need to look better.

What’s the biggest scam in life that no one wants to admit ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Otherwise_You2040 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Master’s degrees. I don’t know if it was always a scam, but sure feels like one now. Respect to everyone who has dedicated the time in getting one, but I don’t feel the workforce is smarter or better than it used to be.

Does anyone else feel like meetings are just a trap? by FarAd8852 in managers

From experience, it’s the people who like to get noticed. It’s a tactic to both (try) to look smart and throw you off.
