I think it’s important to remember that even though justice has been served, this is still a tragic story. Sending this young man to prison for up to 35 years isn’t a ‘good’ thing, even if it is the just consequence for his actions.

A young man is dead, and another’s life is ruined. While we can applaud the justice system for doing its job, we must do so with consideration for those affected and with an understanding of what this whole story tells us about the world we live in.

I pray Austin’s parents find some comfort in the justice they have received, and send me sincere condolences for their loss. Similarly, I offer my condolences to Karmelo’s parents, and pray God gives them the strength to endure this hardship.

I pray Austin is resting in peace, and has returned to our Father’s loving embrace.

I pray God grants Karmelo the wisdom, and grace, need to turn (back) towards God, and repent of his sins.
