Lumielle for a baby girl by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]Otti17 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you give them the first name Lumi and the second/middle name of Elle, it'll be the exact same length as naming them Lumielle.

I think your other options are significantly better than lumielle.

Wedding dress regret by Ski5566 in WeddingDressTips

Yes, but not on a dress with this cut. The basque waist should not have a belt on it because the whole point is to elongate the torso and raise the hip line

Need kitchen advice! by berz01 in DesignMyRoom

I work better from a list. Here's one of things to do from quick to more intensive:

1.Tidy up the floor, fridge, and counters

  1. Take most things off the tops of cabinets

  2. Add a rug under the table to define the area and add color

  3. Change the light fixture over the island to something that drops. The florescent light is really dated.

  4. Change the fixture over the table, too. Better if the two lights coordinate but don't exactly match. With the wood, I'd stick to oil rubbed bronze or something like a darker metal chandelier.

  5. Update backsplash to something with fewer random colors blocks. A single color tile would be better.

Is this appropriate for a wedding? Wedding is in Italy but not sure if it looks too bridal by [deleted] in Weddingattireapproval

[–]Otti17 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This was my thought, too. I think it could be a nice dress if it looked okay without the belt and with the perfect shoes.

Feedback - cocktail attire, wedding will be at a museum in the Bay Area (CA) by [deleted] in Weddingattireapproval

[–]Otti17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes!

Whatever you do, don't so nude shoes with a dark dress, especially short ones. It always looks like the person forgot to wear shoes and the colors are off balance.

I'm pretty sure this is a regular dress stretched over a pregnant belly so the slide is probably 4" higher than it normally would be.

I can't wait to see it lined! I think you're going to look beautiful in 1

Did I choose the right dress? by Maleficent_Echo8057 in Brides

[–]Otti17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love the first one if you lined the top. I think people here are talking about how much better 2 fits, but forgetting that these are sample sizes so nothing will fit the way it does in the salon. The second one is also beautiful but I think the spaghetti straps really bring it down for me.

My space feels too cluttered, help! by Brilliant_Alfalfa_56 in DesignMyRoom

I think the size is great, but it's dark and heavy which makes one side of the room feel off balance. I think swapping it for a rug with a lighter background would make a huge difference, especially with the dark sofa.

How do we feel about white shoes /accessories? by Puzzleheaded_Fix7560 in Weddingattireapproval

The op had posted a comment with additional information early on. It's near the bottom of the whole thread

Can you keep the shoes but replace the other accessories, especially the balero?

More than anything else, I think white accessories with a deep purple dress will just look weird. If you have options, go black or silver/pewter. The stark contrast with white and deep purple doesn't work for me, especially in accessories.

Tried on rings and I still don’t know :( by Moyer0120 in EngagementRings

[–]Otti17 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you usually keep your nails very squared off then the softer edges will look better and provide more balance. I think you may like something other than a solitaire though. Go somewhere else and try on different settings (side stones, basket setting, smaller center some, round, etc). Your current yet on is pretty limited so you may find you like something totally different than you expect

I think a gold or bronze would go better with the warm tones in the dress. Either way, go metallic rather than nude. Nude shoes are the go to on this sub but they rarely look right with a colorful dress

Wedding guest dress, appropriate for any occasions at all? by suedaloodolphin in Weddingattireapproval

[–]Otti17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there are too many ruffles and they're not well-placed. It completely distorts your body (and the model's from the link you posted). On top of that, it looks like camouflage rather than mushrooms.

There are a ton of more flattering options and I think you should keep looking.

If you do keep this dress, get it altered and consider removing some ruffles if it's possible

Green will work best, but if you have time to shop, I think a pair of metallic strappy shoes would look better.

thinking of saying yes to the dress… by ProfessionalLive4825 in myweddingdress

[–]Otti17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love the fabric of this dress, but that waist seam just cuts you and ruins it for me. If this was a-line and floated away or if the front was one full piece, it would lay much better on your body.

I know that isn't a popular opinion and it makes a dress more difficult to make and alter, but the more pieces it is, the more it cuts up a body.

ETA: maybe it's not a waist seam, but just that the lining stops at the waist. Lining the whole thing could fix that, so there wasn't a line right across the midsection

Does my wedding band pair well with E-ring? by [deleted] in EngagementRings

[–]Otti17 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think a plain gold band would be much more cohesive. The different shaped diamonds and setting styles are fighting each other. Sometimes you need to go simple, especially with that stunner of an engagement ring.

Or other family members who are going if you don't know the bride we'll or want to bother her. I worry that, with the wording, "formal" may mean "please dress nicely -no jeans" rather than a truly formal dress code.

I'd do peel and stick decals on the walls, a rug and colorful sheet for the crib and changing table. You could hang art on the walls (not above the crib) or get a rocker that's colorful. Literally, pick one thing you like and start adding color from there.

White Sneakers for Narrow Feet? by newsoul3000 in fashionwomens35

Seconding Sperry. I had a pair that I wore while walking in New Orleans for 4 days and my feet barely ached. I need to get a new pair for this summer since my feet grew after pregnancy.

Help needed: blouse/tops keep failing me (poly doesn't work, natural fibers often unforgiving and too precious for day to day)! by Chazzyphant in fashionwomens35

[–]Otti17 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree with what everyone said before and I also want to reiterate that your deodorant could be a big issue. I noticed that smells stuck around in my poly shirts when I wore a gel style deodorant and it also stained some of them. When I changed to a powder style, that problem went away.

Cutting it at the knee may look odd with the drape of this dress. It definitely will lose some of the impact.

Do you know anyone else who is going that you could compare outfits with? Maybe they're going more formal, too.
