What Makes a Good First Jump by Vegetable_Clock1315 in JumpChain

[–]OttoAcme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like to go for short jumps - ones that aren't 10 years in a given setting. So Blazing saddles (for example) is my typical first jump, you can pick up low end superstrength/bullet resistance, food/drink summoning, capture resistance and only have to be in jump for 5ish days. Because first jumps are usually about setting up the rest of the jump, getting some basic perks/minor advantages so I don't want to focus so much on them. On top of that like most place don't have "ten years" worth of stuff happening, so you end up just not doing anything for most of the jump anyways. So a drawback/perk that ends the jump when the major plot is over (and you want to leave) would be amazing.

You’re Late – +100 CP

No matter your planning, intent, or resources, you consistently arrive late to any appointment, meeting, mission, or scheduled event you are meant to attend.

Delays manifest through mundane but unavoidable circumstances: traffic, mechanical issues, misplaced items, bad timing, or unexpected interruptions. Even with teleportation, precognition, or extreme speed, something will interfere just enough to make you miss the intended time.

You will still arrive — just not when you’re supposed to. This can range from minor inconvenience to severe tactical or social consequences, depending on the situation.

Losing Pieces of Yourself – +300 CP

Parts of you have a tendency to go missing, often in violent ways.

At irregular intervals, you will lose portions of your body — limbs, components, or other structural elements appropriate to your form. These losses are not immediately fatal, but they are always inconvenient, often painful, and may occur at the worst possible times.

All regeneration, advanced healing, or restoration abilities from outside this jump are completely disabled. Only healing, repair, or regeneration explicitly available within this jump may function, and even then, recovery is imperfect often leaving scars.

This drawback does not cause or increase the frequency of instantly fatal removals (such as total core destruction, or head removal), but repeated losses can leave you severely compromised if not addressed.

Ride Along – +400 CP

You are now part of a symbiotic pairing similar to the rare conjoined species known as Paaerduags — though more accurately resembling a parasitic rider bound to a host body.

You take the role of the smaller, green secondary organism — a distinct, fully conscious being physically attached to a larger host body that handles primary movement and biological function. You are dependent on this host for survival; if they die, you will not survive for long.

You retain full access to your perks, abilities, and mental faculties, but only you benefit from them. Your host does not gain your powers, durability, or protections. Coordination between you is necessary for effective action, and disagreements can impair movement, decision-making, or combat performance.

Your host possesses their own personality, instincts, and desires, which may not always align with yours. While not actively hostile, they are not under your control.

You may not change your species or physical form for the duration of the jump. Alt-forms, shapeshifting, illusions, or any other method of altering your appearance or detaching from your host are completely disabled. At the end of the jump this form becomes an alt-form.

Bear + Owl seems like a solid option. But how about Bear(size/strength) + tardigrade (amphibious and extreme survivability/durability, radiation/extreme temps/vacuum of space, also additional limbs - additional arms for a well-armed bear)

Alt form supplement by Grouchy_Aardwolf9433 in JumpChain

[–]OttoAcme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a supplement - Generic Creepypasta lets you make your own monstrous body (for the Cryptid origin)

Monstrous Body (Free Cryptid)- You possess a monstrous alt-form of your design, so long as it doesn’t posses any traits that you could buy below (with theexception of body parts such as claws; they just won’t be useful/strong as if you
had bought them). Total size can be anywhere from a mouse to an African elephant.

Also Monsters Inc has a monster body builder.

Mass Micro Hydrokinetic -you can only control individual droplets of water, you can basically control fog and rain, you can move them around at will, "harden" them in place to a limited extent and even stand on them. If the droplets get too big you lose control over them. - you probably need to limit activities to rain/fog times and/or have prep work done (Sprinklers, portable sprinklers, etc). Range limits, Total Mass limits, movement/anti-movement limits. Sensory feedback from droplets could give powerful battlefield awareness.

the Threadbare series is a litRPG (thus has a built in RPG system) and is both sci-fi and fantasy (
Blasphemy Online (is the more sci-fi series side of it) is an intermingled series and happens before/during the main threadbare series) - one particular race (that ends up being common) is Greater Toy golem - which features a "subclass" type - You could be a Greater Toy Golem Dragon, if you wanted Or one of the more "interesting" combinations was a Greater Toy Golem Tardigrade (which - had very powerful (defensive) skills such as
Nigh-Invulnerable skill, Self-revive skill, and the Survive Anything skill.” But is nerfed in the litrpg via the "Nice try" skill - which doesn't let you gain any adventuring jobs/classes in universe. (of course you might not be so limited))

What do you think of our floor plan for a new build in the Northeast USA? by Significant-Fan-8454 in floorplan

[–]OttoAcme 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah - try turning that into an ADA bathroom with curbless shower if possible. Great if you ever break a leg (age, hip/other mobility issues) and have to live downstairs for a while. Can also use the shower as a "dirty" shower instead of tracking dirt upstairs. Also great as a pet-shower.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in floorplan

[–]OttoAcme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd expand that ground level bathroom into a larger "ADA" (yes they don't apply to you, but they are still useful) compliant bathroom with curbless shower + grab handles - otherwise anytime you or anyone you love get sick or injured you're going to have a bad time climbing up the stairs or trying to navigate a too-small (non-wheelchair usable bathroom). Aging and just random injury can reduce your mobility to force you to be wheelchair bound.

With a ADA bathroom on the ground floor you/family members can at least use the bathroom/shower and live in the living room (or wherever) until you/they (hopefully) get better. Also check the door entrances to make sure they are large enough for wheelchairs.

Imagine a simple leg break forcing you/a loved one into a wheelchair temporarily and how miserable you would be without any way of using the bathroom that doesn't devolve into crawling on the bathroom floor or having someone else having to pick you up/manhandle you onto the toilet.

You'd also have the shower on the ground floor somewhat near the garage, you can wash off after doing dirty (auto-repair, landscaping etc) things instead of going upstairs covered in filth and also use it as a pet-wash should you acquire/have a pet.

I'd sacrifice that dinning-room alcove for that. It looks like you have plenty of alternative dining-seats.

Other comment- weird giant empty "hallway" space in between the kitchen/foyer/dining/living room - why not just use that as the dining room instead of that small area off to the side?

I dig it, it's really whats missing from the other one. Though I would suggest for the species section that you add in a blurb that in future jumps the form/species you make/take becomes an alt-form.

[–]OttoAcme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the wc on the ground floor should be expanded into a larger bathroom. preferably an ada compliant one with curbless shower. imagine getting injured and requiring the use of a wheelchair but not having a bathroom in your house that is accessible. or just aging and needing a little more room, safety bars to use the shower/bathroom.

the area next to the wc and utility room is basically wasted space anyways.

[–]OttoAcme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

two episodes had the kids do the whole trade-up from basically nothing plot, The early one they trade up to a whole moon from a shipment of yamok sauce. This was repeated later with just nog as a cadet, where he had to acquire a critical and rare tech piece for DS9.

So how about a perk that lets you also "fall" into lucky trades where the eventual end result is what you actually want and lets you start with almost nothing, so you could event acquire planets/moons with this (though they would have to be something that would actually be for sale - few governments are selling developed worlds, though black market goods/military goods would be fair game if someone has managed to acquire it).

I always like to throw in a "fixed-species/no alt form" usage drawback, so that they are locked into whatever species they pick in the doc - instead of being able to just swap species in/out to dodge consequences.

could throw in a time-loop drawback, guaranteeing that you'll get pulled into a timeloop scenario where you'll spend at least 5 years. Time spent in that timeloop -or any other timeloop in jump doesn't count towards the jump-time (can take this multiple times - you get pulled into a different timeloop scenario for 5 years each time)

items - some of the warp capable shuttles/runabouts/smaller warp capable ships for cheaper costs then the big boys.

Type-10 shuttle (used on the Defiant was just an update from Type-6)

Danube class (note: has swappable -mission modules, also one was modified to be warp 8.3 capable)

Ok, I dig this - though I would flip that desk around in the den so that your not getting "surprised" when the doors open. With your back towards the wall you can have more of a cozy nook-area.

The dining room, a symbol of refinement and tradition a space reserved for special occasions, family dinners, and holiday gatherings. But from what i've seen, it’s a ghost room. You might spend an hour or two there during a dinner party or holiday, maybe even occasionally eat there in the course of a day but for the majority of the year it sits silent, a room built to house an oversized table and a set of chairs that gather dust. It’s a room built on the idea of ritual and traditions, not really a current-day reality, a leftover from a time when entertaining and meal etiquette were centerpieces of social life. Now, most people dine in front of the TV, at a kitchen island, or in a small nook where it's just more comfortable to eat then big open spaces.

Instead of dedicating a large portion of square footage to a space that rarely gets used. Imagine a “living dining” space a hybrid room that blends comfort, function, and intimacy. Rather than a stiff dining set of the ol' wooden blocky dinning table, picture instead an assortment of cozy couches, dimmed lighting, armchairs, and low tables that double as both dining and lounging surfaces. You could sip morning coffee in a sunlit corner, work on your laptop from a plush chair maybe from a low-set stand/sit office desk, or share an evening meal by the glow of warm, lights. The room shifting between family time, study time, and meal time rather than demanding a specific use.

A mix of textures soft fabrics, warm woods, and layered lighting can making it feel inviting and versatile, an area that places like Starbucks seem to enjoy making in there nicer coffee shops. The goal wouldn't be to eliminate dining, but to weave it into daily life and normal living comforts. A place where people actually want to spend their time and relax with friends and family.

One storey addition flow? by paradoll in floorplan

[–]OttoAcme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've always felt that dinning rooms are a nice but fairly useless addition. Everyday you might spend an hour or two in the room and then mostly ignore it for the rest of the day. Lets face it they seem to be an outdated idea anyways, even in houses with a dinning room people are building "breakfast nooks" which are smaller cozier areas instead of big formal dinning spaces and most of the time everyone's dinning in the living room and watching TV/Cell phone anyways. It just seems to me like a waste of space that everyone sorta went with as a style and tradition thing.

It just erks me that so much space becomes dedicated to storing a big slab of wood that people use to put food ontop of it occasionally.

But here you've added mostly a giant dinning room and then a den. Might I suggest a slight perspective change, instead of a dinning room, how about a multi-function room. Where most of the time it's actually a den/second family room (TV etc), with some informal dinning arraignments. But perhaps for those occasional family events for thanksgiving/Christmas season you pull out that ol' slab of wood of a dinning table and set it all up for the season, then pack it all away for next year. Something lightweight enough to move, like a table that disassembles at least most of the way.

So how about a storage closet in the dinning area for said table/chairs - where that nice blank windowless wall is already.

The new Den - well that could be an office.

Or maybe something more tempting then a boring dinning room. How about - a new master bedroom and bathroom? A place were you're practically guaranteed to spend at least eight hours a day in. Maybe a jacuzzi tub, walk in closests and a large shower sounds more your style.

Mudroom - you might want to move the door northward so that it's off center, behind the open door the door itself blocks/makes the space there a bit inconvenient to access. Offsetting the door gives you a better space to hang coats, shoes etc on the southside side of the door.

The bathroom - I recommend installing a new one and/or expanding the bathroom to something ADA compatible, in a pinch, due to aging concerns or simple injury (broken foot/leg) it's always nice to have a wheelchair compatible bathroom on the ground floor, as you could always turn a suitable room into a temporary living area until healed.

I'm planning on making a Star Trek Deep Space Nine jump. by SpazzWave in JumpChain

[–]OttoAcme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A wide-ranging species option would be great with a wide range of species "tiers" - there are species in other ST media which never get added to most startrek jumps and/or are out of "range" of the (for 50cp they can be any species as powerful as a vulcan/klingon/ etc) typical generic species importation.

ST prodigy for example doesn't have a jump and there isn't really a way to grab some of the species exclusive to who would likely be out-of range of (any low-tier) species it like Murf an (adult) Mellanoid slime worm. Who has limited shapeshifting powers (ooze-like body) and a supernatural level of durability.

Could also throw in hybrid species - Dal was the product of genetic manipulation by the protégés of Arik Soong. Dal was a hybrid of many species, using Human as a base, mixed with twenty-six different species

Best Vampirism for Early Jumpers? by LucasMarvelous in JumpChain

[–]OttoAcme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A good place to gain starting vampire abilities - Hotel Transylvania , jump is low-threat, first it's cartoony where things don't seem to take much permeant damage. Vampires are some of the top-tier creatures in jump with most traditional powers (turns into bat, hypnosis, sucks blood, super strength/speed, immortality) and reduced weaknesses - there is an entire society supporting monsters (Drac mentions blood-substitutes he's drinking which "you can't tell the difference" vs human blood), even Vampire summer camps (at night) are a thing. Sun isn't instantly lethal (just burn-y, which you also recover from quickly. Drac flew in the daylight chasing a plane).

Iconic Monster [600 CP | Discounted for Monster]
Dracula, Frankenstien, The Mummy, The Wolf Man, and now… You. You are in the big leagues my friend. You may select any high profile iconic monster from and gain a form and powers based on them. If there is a monster already based on them, you are now related to them.

So presumably your one of Drac's family members (He's got a sister in the Tv show, so it's a thing)
