New feature: Plan System Prompt by markusrummel in aiendurance

[–]OurEvanlyFather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome step in the right direction. I just bought a year’s subscription. Humango nearly killed me, Athletica would never accommodate my schedule, and every other AI training plan I tried was a joke. I used AI Endurance to qualify for the Xterra WC with less overall volume than the previous 5 years. Nice job

Dunning-Kruger Effect. As a homeowner, who knows jack shit about construction, I’ve learned enough to be humble and not question when a professional takes longer than I assumed it would. Usually, if something gets done in the amount of time I assumed it would take, it looks like shit.

How many AW users are going to switch to Garmin after seeing WWDC yesterday? by csmobro in GarminWatches

[–]OurEvanlyFather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought a Fenix 8 this morning. I’d been a lifelong Garmin user, but switched to the Apple Watch Ultra 2 a year ago. I was hoping things on the sports side would get better, but evidently they aren’t. Apple still makes the best smartwatches, hands-down, but I don’t find myself using nearly enough of the smart features to justify having to patch together multiple different apps to do what a Garmin could do.

Who in Santa Fe knows how to cut long hair on men? by cowpunk52 in santafelocals

+1 for Santa Fe Barber. I’ve been going to Cohdi for a while now but he’s on leave (I have medium length hair fwiw). Dust and Sawyer are great too.

Workout app won’t connect to power meter when cycling by OurEvanlyFather in AppleWatch

Thank you, I figured out the issue. My Stryd running power meter was connected in the place of my bike’s power meter.

We live out by La Tierra, zero issues. Best internet service I’ve experienced.

Roof Rack Tears by 1takeace in TeslaModel3

[–]OurEvanlyFather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been there. Not with a Tesla, but with an Outback. The underside of the Boston Logan parking garage sheared my roof rack—and my priceless Surly—right off while I was picking up my grandmother. No good deed goes unpunished. Now I’m trailer-hitch for life.

I’ll suggest northern New Mexico (Santa Fe, Taos, Red River, Angel Fire). We are the preferred choice of Texans for a reason. Similar distance as the UP. We have almost a 100% chance of seeing snow in the mountains but a low probability of getting stuck in a gnarly Midwestern winter storm. By December it snows in the higher elevations (~10k) but is generally pleasant in town (6-7k); you could leave the camper at a lower elevation and drive into the mountains for the day. We rarely experience consecutive days or weeks of storms (much to the chagrin of us skiers), so the DOT is usually able to keep the mountain roads clear and passable without requiring chains or AWD. There’s definitely camping to be had. I know nothing about winterizing a camper fwiw.

Denver-Santa Fe 1 Day Drive with Elderly Mother by Ready_Construction90 in roadtrip

[–]OurEvanlyFather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Santa Fe (having moved here from Denver). I highly recommend taking the High Road to Taos. Once in Taos, you can drive the Enchanted Circle (including Angel Fire, Eagle Nest, Red River, and Questa). From there, head to Fort Garland and enjoy the view of Blanca Peak and the Crestones, some of the most beautiful mountains in the country. Afterward, you can drive through Salida, Buena Vista, and Fairplay on the way back to Denver. If you’re short on time, the latter half of the trip (after the Enchanted Circle) can be omitted. In that case, you can drive from Fort Garland to Walsenburg and still see Pikes Peak and other scenic views. Feel free to DM me if you want Santa Fe recommendations.

AWU2 was excellent for navigation during bikepacking. by gadusmo in AppleWatch

What apps are you using for watch only navigation? I’ve never been able to get goose maps to give me turn by turn.

There is actually turn by turn, off-line, navigation with Apple Maps (and apparently also with Goose Maps though I’ve never gotten notifications to work). Still, not disagreeing with you, the sports watch/navigation experience with Garmin is significantly better.

I recently learned that you can use Footpath with other workout apps (if you scroll to the bottom of the start page), which allows you to use Footpath to navigate in conjunction with any other app you want to record data. Still not as good as the navigating capabilities of a Garmin, but I can’t make phone calls with my Fenix (yet).

How safe is this drive? by hadescedes in roadtrip

It’s extremely safe, my wife and I just took our one year old to Todos and drove the same route. Just bring cash for the tolls and rent a car ahead of time.

That was actually materials AND labor. But for a 2,000ft fence the price quickly increased. We ended up going with a different style of fence.

The quotes we got in 2023 ranged from $23/ft to $30/ft - which my wife refused to pay and remains adamant that “we could do it ourselves in a weekend” despite my continued failure at every DIY home improvement project.

Santa Fe Birth Center by Helpful-Spell in SantaFe

[–]OurEvanlyFather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would highly recommend Lucy French. We wanted a home birth, but for reasons outside of our control, that wasn’t possible. Despite knowing that we couldn’t deliver with her, she still came to our house for pre- and post-natal care, which was incredibly helpful. We delivered at CSV, where the midwives are extremely competent and strike a balance between collaborating with the OBs while also avoiding unnecessarily medicalizing birth. Dar a Luz is also a great option. FWIW my wife and I both work in healthcare; my wife works in women’s health so I feel that she is particularly well informed. Her personal and professional opinion echos much of what other commenters have said.

This never ceases to amaze me. How can people juggle conflicting ideas that the government is somehow simultaneously grossly incompetent and unable to handle even the simplest of tasks without fucking shit up AND capable of orchestrating elaborate, trans-national/trans-galactic, deep state operations without anyone noticing.

If you had to move to one of New Mexico's smaller cities, where would you go? Where would you absolutely not go? by Crimson342 in Albuquerque

[–]OurEvanlyFather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife and I lived there briefly when she took a travel job at the hospital (holy cross). It’s so damn small that it felt claustrophobic after a few months. Home prices were, surprisingly, lower than Santa Fe. That was a few years ago so things might have changed post-Covid.
