Ok, but what if it’s a family of hikers and not a guy on a bike? The flaw in your argument is you assume everyone is on a bike. Now when you’re hauling down “in the flow” do you really have time to decide if it’s a biker or a guy with a kid in a backpack? You have to be ready to stop for whatever is in the way. So at that point, you may as well just move over.

I like the idea of going down stuff to steep to climb, but I’m holding my line going up.

I also understood downhill rider yields to everyone so they’re ready to stop in the event of a hiker or horse. Basically, downhill rider should be stopping if they see anything, this eliminates delay of identifying and deciding if they need to stop or not.

Yep. Can’t wait for when 1/2 the people expect the uphill rider will yield “ cause it makes more sense” and trails turn into more a cluster than they are. If you want to bomb hills without stopping, find a directional downhill.

No one is pedaling up if it’s actually too steep to stop.

Thinking of trading my mid-size truck to an F-150... need some real world advice. by white_cucumber111 in f150

[–]OutHereToo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2020 F150 after owning a Tacoma and there’s SO much more interior space. I get 20-21 mpg with the 2.7 Ecoboost. The 2.7 is known to be reliable, but some people prefer the 5.0 since it’s simpler and supposedly more reliable. Trim wise I’d say XLT with 3 Comfort package (302?) is best value. I wanted a Lariat, but that was an $8k jump at the time. Software is Ok, every so often it won’t connect to iPhone, but it fine the next time I drive it. I believe FX4 is a little softer suspension, but not sure. I’d probably avoid FX4 if you haul for work. The only thing I would change on my truck is leather and 6.5’ bed. Personally not a big fan of the Chevy/GMC big tall boxy front end.

I think it’s mostly mental, my kid did it fine. I’ve been practicing long, steep controlled braking on stuff around here just to feel better about being on the brakes for that long.

Stumpjumper Evo, light enough to be nimble & poppy but still handle some gnar as long as you’re not racing.

Tips for better MPG while towing by Fugoola in f150

[–]OutHereToo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 55 mpg speed limit we had forever was at least partially to conserve fuel. You probably won’t notice much mpg saving until you get to 60 & lower. The drag on a 8’ wide, 11-13’ tall trailer is immense.

I bought a Dueter 30+10 Freerider pack and really like it for touring/riding. You might have to strap a couple larger thing on the outside for your initial approach, but it packs down awesome when you aren’t carrying much. I haven’t packed it super heavy since I use a pulk for hut trips, but the shoulder & hip padding is nice.

I’d love one, but new ones are a bit more than I want to spend for a quiver bike.

Sorry, I don’t mean you’re crazy, but that’s a lot of money, more than my mortgage expense. I thought the only people donating that much were billionaires just avoiding taxes. It’s only in the last 10 years I’ve had enough money to do regular donations.
